Public high schools in Anne Arundel County, MD currently start at 7:17 a.m., the earliest time in Maryland and among the earliest in the nation. Bus pickups begin as early as 5:50 a.m. Both health and education research show, and real-life experience confirms, that starting school so early is incompatible with the mental and physical well-being of most adolescents and undermines learning and achievement. The adolescent body clock is shifted, pushing the most important sleep into the early morning hours and making it difficult for most teenagers to fall asleep before 11 p.m. Our current school hours mean that even teenagers who refrain from overpacked schedules and electronic distractions are not physiologically able to get anything close to the approximately 9 hours of sleep per night needed by their growing brains and bodies. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have linked sleep deprivation in teens to a host of physical and mental health problems, including an increased risk of depression, suicidal thoughts, obesity, substance abuse, and other risky behaviors. Later school start times are associated with markedly reduced car crash rates, improved moods, and lower rates of depression, absenteeism, tardiness, and dropouts. The improvements in student achievement associated with later school start times benefit disadvantaged children approximately twice as much. Merely switching elementary and high school start times will not solve this problem because it will force our youngest children to go to school at unsafe hours as well. That’s why we are proposing 8 a.m. as a minimum opening class time and 7 a.m. as an earliest bus pick up time. These lower limits will ensure the physical and mental health and safety of children of all ages in our public schools, while still allowing the possibility of starting high schools even later, as most research suggests they should. Dr. Maxwell and Board of Education members, it's time to make this change. We respectfully ask that school schedules be set with the health, safety, and academic achievement of our county's students as top priorities. We also ask you to join the larger health and educational community in recognizing sleep and school hours as public health and equity issues rather than negotiable budget items. Instead of citing obstacles to change, we ask that you mobilize all stakeholders to resolve this problem using transportation software and creative solutions to overcome past roadblocks. AACPS needs to be at the forefront of this issue, remain current on the research, and weigh this decision now so that we can set a healthy school schedule for the next school year.

Verizon is nickel and diming their loyal customers who currently have an unlimited data plan and giving them ONE choice when they go to upgrade. The choice is to buy your phone at full price or you have to go to another shared type of plan and lose the unlimited plan that they promised customers they can keep as long as they did not change the plan! Verizon has a chance to honor those customers and reverse this decision!

The Republican Party is trying to steal the election. We need to do something about this immediately. We should get together and demonstrate against the deceit and tyranny of those trying to block the vote for Obama. We cannot wait for election day to do something about this because it will be too late. This is the most important issue because it goes to the very heart of our democracy. We could lose it if we don't make sure we have a fair election.

Convert fair-weather Democratic voters to reliable voters by getting them to sign up for absentee ballots. How? Assign volunteers to work Democratic polls and early voting sites with absentee ballot request forms. Have voters fill in name, address and date of birth or voter ID number and sign. The volunteers can submit requests to local supervisor of elections. Long term solution, It's far more efficient than canvassing because it targets actual voters -- not likely voters.

The United States of America cannot survive being "run" by Mitt Romney and then "harvested" for the good of Mitt Romney and his wealthy cronies.

We stand with CNN correspondent and Presidential debate moderator Candy Crowley against the onslaught of conservative outrage after she corrected a blatantly false statement from Mitt Romney during the debate. Allowing debaters to make false or misleading statements during televised debates does not further the democratic process.

The Campaign for an American DREAM is a grassroots organization lead by undocumented youth. For seven and a half months, we have endured a journey from San Francisco to Washington D.C., creating dialogue around the passage of the Federal DREAM Act and immigration reform. In our long and strenuous journey for this cause, we have promoted the values of equality, unity, and diversity. We believe all people are equal, all those who are oppressed should be united, and that individuals should not be punished, but recompense for their hard work as individuals. We have united hundreds of communities across the nation by sharing our struggles as undocumented American's, allowing people to fully comprehed the obstacles of undocumented youth. Our journey commenced on March 10, 2012 and will come to an end on November 2, 2012. Throughout these past few months we have created productive dialogue around the plight of undocumented youth in both small towns and big cities across different states. We have educated communities and opened up spaces where communities came together and discussed the opportunity of creating a better society for undocumented youth via the passage of the Federal DREAM Act. But most importantly we have empowered other undocumented youth to not feel isolated in a nation we call home. We have walked nearly 3,000 miles in hope that we can overcome this obstacle and have also put a halt on our lives in order to shed light on this issue. Deferred Action is not enough, its a step in the right direction but will not solve the existent broken immigration system for undocumented youth in America. We ask that President Obama meet with us in The White House because he has stated that he would sign the DREAM Act if it was placed in front of him. Our walk across the country may be coming to an end, but the process to reintroduce a more comprehensive DREAM Act as a stand alone bill is just beginning.

Reading about Tagg Romney's ownership in electronic voting machines in several states is appalling. His father is a presidential candidate, and both have connections with Bain. This constitutes voter fraud. Trying to rig election results in one's favor smacks of treason!

I am disgusted with the document sent to Maricopa County residents in the state of Arizona with their voter registration cards listing the wrong date for the presidential election. Similar tactics were used by the Republicans in the 2008 election in an attempt to steal the election and are a disgrace to the United States government and democracy.
