This year the Albany County Department for Aging is concerned with not only maintaining funding for programs and services but for the need for more funding to support services for seniors. As the population of seniors in the county continues to increase, so must the home and community based services and the funding for those services. Because the Albany County Department for Aging services are not mandated, seniors and other concerned citizens in the county should be worried that the county legislature may decide to focus only on mandated services in order to balance the budget.

With vicious political attack ads whizzing across the country, and misleading lies being spread to the voting masses, it’s no wonder that the average US American adult feels disillusioned and distrustful of most politicians. Free speech was introduced by the first amendment to the US Constitution with good reason, but the ubiquity of “free speech” should not apply to issues that people get to vote on. Specifically, “free speech” should not allow for the mass distribution of lies, when it comes to voting issues. Some would say that it is the “opposition’s” responsibility to publically identify the lies, but how is this possible, when the “opposition” is not extraordinarily wealthy, or when many voters get all of their information from a single partisan source?

If we changed the presidential term to one six-year term rather than two four-year terms, we could increase overall effectiveness of the president. By reducing the need for "re-election" tactics, we all benefit.

Inflation has been increasing due to printing money by the government. This is causing prices to rise on everything, which, is a tax on everyone. President Obama promised not to tax the middle class.

Facebook, a website which is supposed to be a "Social Networking website" has become nothing but that, with the unexplained suspensions of members accounts due to them sending too many friend requests, and making too many posts, along with members being locked out of their accounts without logical explanation. Also, the website is filled with obscene pages depicting pornography, child and animal abuse, pedophiles, bullying, bigotry, and malicious criminal activity. After making numerous complaints on these issues to Facebook, to no avail, these problems still plague the website, making it a unpleasant website for social interaction with friends and family.

Every promising biotech cancer treatment currently requires prostate cancer patients to undergo and fail androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) to be part of any clinical trial. By the time this failure occurs, the patient is too sick and weak for the full benefit of the treatment to be realized. The ADT itself is a big part of the reason. Let these treatments be tried on their own merits.

Rep Walsh made the moronic statement recently that in no case can a pregnancy harm the mother, and the idea that an abortion may be needed to save the mother's life is just an excuse to have an abortion. His ignorance of medicine should be sufficient to remove him from the Subcommittee on Healthcare and Technology (of the committee on Small Business) in the House. As a mother and grandmother, I fear that such nonsense could harm the reproductive freedom women enjoy today.
