Congressional Health Plan: Just like the rest of usMembers of Congress generally treat the issue of health care as a purely academic debate, since they have rock-solid, top of the line health care built into their salaries. While they are entitled to excellent health care, so is every human being. My wife and I buy the best health care we can afford, but even so are immensely frustrated by it. We are constantly nickel-and-dimed with co-pays, partial payments, and denials. Let members of Congress also play by the same rules: eliminate their special plan, force them to shop in the same health care market the rest of us do, and let's see how health care legislation changes.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John McLaughlin

Revoke Exxon Mobil's License to PolluteThe Illinois Supreme Court determined earlier this year that Citizens Opposing Pollution cannot enforce the Illinois Surface Mining Reclamation and Conservation Act such that Exxon has been allowed to poison the Pearl Sand Aquifer in Clinton County, Illinois with 422 acres of permanently impounded coal production waste slurry that is constantly leeching hazardous constituents into the groundwater which can no longer be used as drinking water by the local residents and farmers. Secretary of Interior, Kenneth Salazar, has the power to enforce the identical federal law and force Exxon Mobil Coal USA to remove and properly dispose of their hazardous coal production waste. We are calling on Secretary Salazar to enforce the federal law so that Exxon cannot continue to poison the Pearl Sand Aquifer.384 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Penni Livingston

We expect news media to inquire into candidates' core beliefs. It is truly scary what we have recently learned about sitting US congressmen's beliefs about matters of science -- things that GOP House Science Committee congressmen Paul Broun (GA) and Todd Akin (MO) (and others) believe that are at odds with uncontroversial tenets of science, like the age of the earth (billions of years old, not 9000), or that a woman's body cannot defend itself against pregnancy caused by rape. While (as much as we might like to) we can't impose an IQ test on candidates for office, or make scientifically valid beliefs a condition of serving in Congress, we need to know about core beliefs of would-be candidates for national offices -- whether they are rational, or bordering on insane. While we cannot legislate the availability of such information, we should be able to expect that reporters and journalists will ferret out such information in their normal pursuit of profitable news and in pursuit of recognition for journalistic excellence.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gary Gower

Onstar is FaultyThis petitiion relates to how this company continues to offer this product to customers who purchase a General Motors vehicle knowing that it cannot assist in emergency situations. I have been a subscriber to Onstar with my business vehicles for more than 10 years, In June 7, 2010, my daughter who had diabetes was driving from Nashville to Memphis and became ill. She parked the vehicle at milemarker 152 and rested for several hours. She called out to Onstar at 10:16 am and no help was ever sent to the vehicle. She was found two hours later dead by the state troopers.106 of 200 SignaturesCreated by ADRIANA C. HARRISON

Michigan needs more clean energyAn opportunity like this doesn’t come along often. On Election Day, voters will have a chance to take a huge step in the shift from dirty energy to clean, renewable energy. Proposition 3 would require utilities to get 25% of Michigan’s electricity from renewable sources, like wind and solar, by 2025. Passing Prop 3 would dramatically reduce pollution from coal-fired power plants, which is a leading cause of asthma attacks and lung disease. Overcoming the influence of our coal-burning utilities to get our state to 25% renewable energy by 2025 isn’t going to be easy. At this point, I’m sure you’ve seen their misleading TV ads and mailings. It’s gotten so bad that Consumers Energy actually stuffed their utility bills with a flyer urging customers to vote no on Prop 3. The stakes are too high to let them get away with this. Can I count on you to vote YES on Prop 3?32 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Virginia Shannon

This is worse than ignorance!Representative Paul Broun from the House Committee of Science, Space and Technology recently gave a speech at a banquet in which he made statements that condemn scientific advances and claim them to be false and ploys of Satan! He said "All that stuff that I was taught about evolution and embryology and Big Bang Theory, all that is lies strait from the pit of hell. And it's lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught from understanding that they new a savior." This is not acceptable rhetoric for a member of the Congressional Science committee. His thoughts and feelings are his own and protected and he is entitled to his own beliefs, but when his beliefs begin to put at danger the rights of the American public then he should not be placed in position that would allow for such a conflict of interests.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Chris Betchie

Prosecute Conflicts of Interest ViolationsTwo members of North Dakota's Public Service Commission have taken campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry that they are supposed to be monitoring on behalf of the citizens of North Dakota, in direct violation of North Dakota law, yet the Attorney General refuses to prosecute, and the taxpayers are funding out of state law firms who have been retained by the PSC to defend lawsuits against these two individuals for those violations. The Governor has also failed to act, and there appears to be no one at the highest levels of state government who is willing to enforce the law.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Douglas Marshall

End voter ID in New HampshireVoter ID is not needed or wanted in New Hampshire. We are a small state with lots of connections. There is no reason to have voter ID when no fraud has been identified. It is unnecessary and only serves to disenfranchise legitimate voters who may not be able to access the required ID.2,170 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Catherine McDowell
