  • Make them honor their commitment
When most veterans signed up, it was with the promise of being able to utilize veteran hospitals for future medical needs. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Many veterans have had their benefits discontinued because of the fact that it isn't a "service related" injury. Even worse, after most go and spend literally eight hours to have a five minute conversation with VA case workers where they are told that now they must wait 18 months for processing. In many cases, 18 months without treatment is simply not an option. Left with two options, a veteran can either wait until they become destitute enough to receive benefits, or go try a private provider (with a pre-existing condition). Until we make them honor the commitment made to our brave soldiers, how can they ask the soldiers to honor theirs?

  • Todd Akin has to go!
Congressman Todd Akin (R) is currently running for the Senate in Missouri. He recently stated that women don't get pregnant from legitimate rape! While he is backpedaling hard right now, he is CLEARLY too biased, uneducated, and extremist to even remotely represent the people of Missouri, or anyone else for that matter! Conservative or liberal, doesn't matter: Todd, time for you to resign!

  • Let's kick STAAR out of our classrooms!
As Texas students, we petition the Texas Legislature to end the STAAR Tests and other high stakes tests immediately. Our position on STAAR testing is that it is atrocious. It’s not right to take the hopes and dreams of graduating high school away from us. The STAAR test will cause students to drop out of high school who can’t pass the tests. If the law is going to say that a freshman who failed STAAR will not graduate then why should WE try to do our best in the next 3 years? The 9th grade should be a year that orients us to the high school curriculum, not a year that forces us into a make-or-break test that could end our educational path before it begins. This is a very unhealthy atmosphere that the laws are bringing into our schools and homes. Teachers, parents, families, and students are put under enormous stress and pressure. It is not fair to measure our intelligence by administering a test given to a 9th grader. There are so many levels of intelligence and learning that develop after the age of 14. The tests don’t help students improve by identifying their weaknesses Testing and preparing for tests waste weeks of time when we should be learning from our teachers The tests aren’t educational, and they don’t prepare US for college WE want our teachers to test us on what we’ve learned.

  • Allow Jill Stein to participate in the presidential debates
The Republican and Democratic Parties control the presidential debates and exclude third party candidates. This is anti-thetical to democracy. We petition the Commission on Presidential Debates to allow Jill Stein to participate in all of the presidential debates this year.

  • Why Native Americans Don't Use $20 Bills
Andrew Jackson is glorified by his portrait on the $20 bill of the United States, along with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Hamilton, Ulysses Grant, and Benjamin Franklin. Jackson was the worst type of slaveholder and was responsible for the cruel and brutal forced removal of Native Americans from their homelands to Oklahoma known as the Trail of Tears. It would be a simple and meaningful statement against genocide to remove him from our currency.
