Background: Currently, Kentucky has linked its high school state education curriculum to National Education Standards. KY worked with the ACT program to develop state standards. Now, some Republican legislators are upset that the biology section includes evolution but not creationism. They think "Darwin made it up," and that evolution is "only a theory." I, the writer of the above petition, am a resident of KY and an evolutionary ecologist, and know very well how important the understanding of evolutionary theory is to understanding biology. The students of KY deserve the best education, not pseudoscience and religion in the science classroom.

Watching the deterioration of diplomacy with Iran, and hearing threats of war, I've felt deeply concerned that our country and its allies are not making use of proven conflict-resolution techniques such as Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication. All peoples, especially in Iran and Israel, stand to lose enormously if full-scale war breaks out, and it is our duty to do all we can to foster a peaceful resolution.

Let them go on social security after their exit from congress, and find their own healthcare.

The Republican governor in PA and the Republican Congress are making it very difficult for almost a million people in the state of PA to vote in the Presidential Election in November, 2012. They are forcing people to get an ID in the next 60 days. They are demanding that people get the ID yet making it difficult to acquire those ID's. Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai said that a recent voter ID law passed in his state "would allow Governor Romney to win Pennsylvania."

A state initiative to prohibit the slaughter of horses for human consumption was passed by the NJ Senate and State Assembly on June 26, 2012. “Prohibiting the slaughter of horses and the sale of horse flesh for human consumption will help prevent the feared start up of horse slaughterhouses since the federal government last year lifted its ban on funding of USDA inspections,” Senator Raymond Lesniak said. “It will also stop the transportation of horses from New Jersey to Canada and Mexico where they are slaughtered for human consumption.” To date Governor Chris Christie has not signed this bill. Please sign this position to encourage Governor Christie to act now to make NJ a more humane state.
