• Middle class consumers are the real job creators
President Obama and the Democrats should focus on the basic economic fact that middle class consumers are the real job creators, as eloquently explained by Nick Hanauer: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-12-07/raise-taxes-on-rich-to-reward-true-job-creators-nick-hanauer.html#p1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBx2Y5HhplI The economy is the most urgent issue facing our nation, and this election presents a clear choice between the clearly broken policy of larding more money on the rich in the hopes that they will magically create more jobs, and the economically sound argument that a stronger middle class will create more jobs. With this argument, Obama and the democrats can directly undermine the central pillar of Romney and the Republican's campaign: that they are somehow uniquely capable of creating jobs. Just ask Romney directly how much economic growth he has generated by not paying his fair share of taxes -- is he buying products that American companies are producing, in the same quantities as would be the case if that money was instead in the hands of middle-class consumers? The current Obama campaign rhetoric: http://www.barackobama.com/record/economy?source=primary-nav focuses too much on the bailout and government intervention in specific industries -- this is an immediate turn-off to many potential voters. This argument transcends narrow party interests and should be something that can unite 99% of Americans -- it urgently needs to be made, forcefully and consistently, for the future of our country.

  • California Gun Control- Support of SB249
In light of the recent Sikh Massacre in Oak Creek Wisconsin and the Movie Theater Massacre in Aurora Colorado, We believe it is essential to strengthen our expiating assault weapon ban legislation here in California for the protection of our citizens. California Senator Leland Yee's Gun Control Bill SB 249 is an honest attempt to do this and needs to enacted, in this Election Year.

  • Stop Confined Animal Feed Operation (C.A.F.O.) in Central Wisconsin
A C.A.F.O. is trying to force it's way into a currently forested area in a residential area in the town of Saratoga, WI. The soil is primarily sand and has a shallow water table with private wells as shallow as 20 feet deep. The C.A.F.O. wants to purchase 8,000 acres for crops and have a dairy with 5700 cows, calves, and heifers. The Saratoga water is at risk of contamination, in addition to 2 trout streams. The C.A.F.O. wants permission to install 47 high capacity wells. This amount of water draw will risk the aquifer and the nitrates will seep into the water table. Please help fight C.A.F.O.'s in Central WI !

  • If You Think You're Covered By Your Homeowner's Insurance Policy - Think Again
I had a legitimate homeowner's insurance claim denied. The Insurance Commissioner's office in Georgia is useless. All they do is make sure the legal requirements are met. Even if the denial is based on nonsense, they have no building inspector who can look at the claim and make any determination. No lawyer would take the case because the homeowner can't collect anything except the cost of the repairs. That means the homeowner has to pay the attorney out of what is won, and what's left isn't enough to make the repairs. The insurance companies know this, so it is in their best interest to deny claims. They lose nothing and stand to make interest on the money for as long as they keep it.

  • Mitt, release five years of tax returns
The whole country is in peril because of the Bush tax cuts and the loopholes in the tax code. A man who we may hire as President has money in three different countries, I believe to evade taxes. Contrary to tradition, he has released only one complete tax return. I want a man running for the highest office to have keep the law. His behavior makes me think he hasn't.

  • Making my Vote Count
We need to end electoral colleges so that the people's votes count directly. If this is a country of the people, for the people, and by the people then why don't our votes for president count directly? This petition is to start a bill to abolish electoral colleges that can vote against the popular vote and create a national popular vote to prevent swing states from influecing national elections. If all men are created equal our votes should count equally.

  • Politicians: Save Our Climate for Our Children and Grandchildren.
I have four grandchildren whose life prospects are dismal if global warming due to green house gases continues to be effectively ignored. The behavior of the US House, Senate, and President is unbelievable in the face of this threat. We should not vote for any politician who does not make clear his or her support for effective action on global warming. This is in fact a national defense issue.

  • Voter suppression across the United States
The republican's are trying to steal this election by fighting voter fraud that does not exist. They are making it impossible to vote in PA and OH. Please sign the petition to tell them we won't stand for this. We send people to other countries to make sure people can vote but we are being silenced by republican governor's and their unfair voting rules. We need an executive order to help us...

  • Medicare for all 2 - 7 Plan
Millions of lives and our economy as a whole are being ruined due to the stranglehold of the insurance companies and the drug companies on our health care system. As a percentage of gross domestic product, we spend twice the average of other comparable countries on health care and get the worst results for it. (the absolute worst of other comparable countries) I waste time and money making unnecessary appointments with my primary care physician in order to see a specialist, and too many of the doctors that I do see are obviously in it more for the money than for the vocation. Millions of dollars and millions of hours of labor are wasted on paperwork to prop up an untenable system that benefits very few. We all live in fear of a health crisis ruining our finances. The issue is not really that complicated and the solution is simple, but nobody in Washington is going near it. Let's present them with something. We pay 1.45% tax our entire working lives in order to have health care when we retire. Why not pay 4% instead and have health care now and forever, for us and our children? (happy side effect: my plan's 14% surtax on exorbitant salaries will help keep that scourge in check as well)
