As Texas students, we petition the Texas Legislature to end the STAAR Tests and other high stakes tests immediately. Our position on STAAR testing is that it is atrocious. It’s not right to take the hopes and dreams of graduating high school away from us. The STAAR test will cause students to drop out of high school who can’t pass the tests. If the law is going to say that a freshman who failed STAAR will not graduate then why should WE try to do our best in the next 3 years? The 9th grade should be a year that orients us to the high school curriculum, not a year that forces us into a make-or-break test that could end our educational path before it begins. This is a very unhealthy atmosphere that the laws are bringing into our schools and homes. Teachers, parents, families, and students are put under enormous stress and pressure. It is not fair to measure our intelligence by administering a test given to a 9th grader. There are so many levels of intelligence and learning that develop after the age of 14. The tests don’t help students improve by identifying their weaknesses Testing and preparing for tests waste weeks of time when we should be learning from our teachers The tests aren’t educational, and they don’t prepare US for college WE want our teachers to test us on what we’ve learned.

The Republican and Democratic Parties control the presidential debates and exclude third party candidates. This is anti-thetical to democracy. We petition the Commission on Presidential Debates to allow Jill Stein to participate in all of the presidential debates this year.

Making me less likely to vote for him because I am not sure how he would handle the government finances if I can't get a glimpse of how he handled his own.

Vote for Obama in several Asian language, Want subtitles in all his speeches -- at least in Spanish, but mostly in those weird Asian languages. I have several Asian friends who don't speak a word of English yet.

Andrew Jackson is glorified by his portrait on the $20 bill of the United States, along with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Hamilton, Ulysses Grant, and Benjamin Franklin. Jackson was the worst type of slaveholder and was responsible for the cruel and brutal forced removal of Native Americans from their homelands to Oklahoma known as the Trail of Tears. It would be a simple and meaningful statement against genocide to remove him from our currency.

News stations should be fined when they broadcast untruthful news, especially political.

Congress should require federal tax returns for the last 12 years be made public by any presidental nominee. Americans deserve to be able to judge the integrety, honesty and truthfullness of the person entrusted with leading our country by being informed of financial worth, how their money was made, where, and all connections to their wealth. Time could be best spent on discussion of other issues. We have a right to know whether the candidate for the highest office in the land has acquired their assets in a manner in which we approve.

For years I have watched as individuals and organizations have fabricated or intentionally twisted facts, disseminating the disinformation on public media outlets to further their political or personal gain. Often this disinformation is broadcast or published without any fact checking. If our democracy requires an informed public and informed voters then there can be no greater offense than deliberately misinforming the public. Certainly there is no end to this unless such action are criminalized. From newscasts to printed media to campaign ads; knowingly lying to the public is just wrong.

Since they want to continue their blatant racial discrimination, it's time hit them where it hurts! No equal treatment of all patrons = no business! This petition was started due to the incident that occurred on August 18, 2012 to Will Green as well as a way for those other individuals who have also experienced racial discrimination while patrionizing this business to tell their story.
