• Congressional Healthcare
Cancel all healthcare coverage for U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives. They should know what it is like to try to obtain and pay for coverage for themselves before they can hope to understand what everyone else is dealing with. And at the very least, their coverage should cease to exist the moment they are no longer in congress. Taxpayers should not have to pay for their healthcare when they can't pay for their own.

  • Stop America's top Catholic bishop from endorsing Paul Ryan
Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Archbishop of New York, is listed prominently among the invited speakers being used to promote the Values Voters Summit, at which Ryan and a host of other Republican politicians and far-right figures will appear. The bishops have condemned the Ryan budget as inconsistent with Catholic teaching, because of its "unacceptable cuts" to "essential programs that serve poor and vulnerable people." So why would Cardinal Dolan even consider appearing with Ryan during the campaign season? It's not too late for Cardinal Dolan, who recently called Ryan a "great public servant," to publicly refuse this invitation and make it clear that he is not in the business of partisan politics. But he needs to hear from us immediately. Sign our petition: Cardinal Dolan, stay away from Paul Ryan and the Values Voters Summit.

  • Antiabortionists must adopt unwanted children
The cuts in services and the forcing of women to complete their gestation places an added burden on our society. I want the active antiabortionists to adopt these children and provide for a healthy and beneficial future. As a medical provider, I have cared for children that have been born into these circumstances.

  • Save commercial crabbing and shrimping in Washington state
The commercial fishing industry in the Pacific Northwest is disappearing. Every year the state awards an ever increasing quota to sport fisherman, detracting from the commercial fleet, who's livelihoods depend on it. My father is a commercial fisherman, he's done it all his life, and his career is being threatened, along with the career of hundreds of other fisherman in the area. It's time to fight back before this industry disappears.

  • We need a Congress that Represents THE PEOPLE! --- and NOT Grover Norquist!
For the U.S. economy and Global econommies to work, we need a U.S. Congress that works. The current U.S. Congress is holding America, and as a result, the global economies hostage for selfish political reasons --- They (the Tea Party House Republicans) have turned from Obstructionism to Destructionism. Witness the downgrade of U. S. debt as a result of their failure to raise the debt ceiling on time. The debt ceiling was raised 8x during the "W" Bush administration, without any bitter debate or fanfare. Many of our current members of Congress have pledged their allegiance to Grover Norquist instead of to the United States of America. This is a violation of their oath of office at best, and in my opinion TREASON. We are paying these representatives? with taxes payed by THE PEOPLE --- NOT by Grover Norquist and they need to represent THE PEOPLE or they should be FIRED! ie. IMPEACHED. Every Conggressman who signed "the pledge " to Grover Norquist should be required to renounce that "pledge " and sign a new pledge that they will work for the American PEOPLE or they should be required to step down or be tried for treason. It is disgusting that we have elected officials who are working for Grover Norquist instead of working for THE PEOPLE of the United States. Mitch McConnell stated his only goal is to do whatever it takes to make our President a one-term President. That statement by itself should be considered treason in my opinion. We need to get rid of the right wing radicals who are working against the best interests of the United States for selfish political gain. They have gone too far and the purposeful destruction of America by our own elected representatives in the House of Congress has got to stop.

  • Reynolds Prairie
A sacred site to the Sioux Indian Nations in So. Dakota is being put up for auction on the 25th of August, the government of the state and the nation should step in to find ways for the Sioux Nations to buy the land which was taken from them in the 1800's so they can continue to practice their religious beliefs on this pristine prairie. Otherwise it will be sold and developed trampling on the Sioux once again!

As a parent and educator and a creator of a number of small business enterprises, I have been shocked by the views expressed by Mitt Romney asserting the business owners succeed on their own.

  • Jim Lehrer: Ask the Candidates about Global Warming during the First Presidential Debate
Millions of voters will get their information about the presidential candidates by watching the debates this fall. The first debate, on October 3rd, will be moderated by Jim Lehrer and will be focused exclusively on domestic issues. With a moderator like Jim Lehrer — whose show, the PBS NewsHour, has often covered climate change with the gravity that it requires — we have a real chance to generate a substantive discussion about global warming on the national stage…if he asks the candidates about the issue. Right now, the effects of climate change are causing hardship for people across the county — from flooding in the Southeast to drought in the Midwest to the wildfires in Colorado, where the debate is being held. So it would only be natural to assume that Mr. Lehrer should ask President Obama and Governor Romney to discuss how they plan to address global warming. Unfortunately, experience has taught us that we can’t assume much when it comes to climate change coverage in the national media. Despite the fact that July was the hottest month ever recorded in the U.S., only 8.7 percent of television segments that reported on the record-breaking heat waves made the connection to climate change, according to an analysis by Media Matters for America. But we can change that if we work together to push Lehrer to bring climate change into the national spotlight by asking asking tough questions during this debate. That's why we hope you'll sign our petition and share it with your community.

  • Rep. Akin, resign from the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology
Following the comments made by Missouri Congressman Todd Akin regarding the ability of the female body to "shut that whole thing down" following rape (referring to the falsity that rape cannot result in pregnancy), the scientists of The United States of America, respectfully request that he resign from the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Representative Akin's comment shows a severe lack of understanding about human biology and define him as unfit to serve as a representative of the world's leading scientific community.

  • A limit of 12 weeks for presidential campaigns
I believe the necessity of presidential candidates ( and all elected officials ) to immediately begin raising funds and courting the moneyed interests for support for reelection inhibits, if not paralyzes, their ability to perform the duties for which they were elected.

  • Governor Christie build affordable housing units for the disabled
I had a stroke at age 35 & decided to end my Toxic 16 yr marriage. During my quest to secure affordable housing in union/essex counties I discovered a large # of waiting lists at senior housing buildings, why? Most lists have years long waiting periods like the Summit senior building list is 6 yrs long. Persons like myself collecting Social Security disability are not eligible for TRA or TANF. Persons with disabilities basically are waiting for seniors to pass away in order to get affordable housing.
