• Stop Terrorism by Republicans/Tea Party in the House
As an American who has been laid off now for the last 4 years with no end in sight to establishing sustainable jobs for approximately 24 millions Americans due to the Republicans/Tea Party in the House standing in the way of any economical growth in this country. We are calling on the Republicans/Tea Party to stop holding this country hostage. If they care about the American people and have our best interest at the core of their ideology work with the President and pass legislation that will create jobs instead of divisiviness among the American people. Create jobs now, not hot air and terrorism!

  • Stop the Voter ID laws
This is about the constitutional right to vote for every citizen. The results of a close election can be tampered with by preventing people from voting. Key battleground states (Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania) with a large number of electoral votes are requiring voters to bring a photo ID to the polls. This is a REPUBLICAN, not a Democratic Party effort. They have already been successful in making this the law in these states, effectively disenfranchising certain groups of voters (minority poor, elderly, students) who could be crucial for President Obama to win a second term. This is the intent behind the laws, which purport to prevent voter fraud. There have been practically no instances of voter fraud, so this is a blatant attempt to tamper with the vote, which is illegal, undemocratic and un-American. Republicans should consider the implications if it were a Republican candidate up for election and Democrats were tampering with a free and fair election.

  • Student loan debt
Students who are in debt to the tune of around 90,000.00. And there single mothers who stayed when dad left with girlfriend and knew if they went to Florida they were pretty sure would not be found and forced to pay child support. I was told by my lawyer in 1988 who was a politician the laws were made by men for men! This is a very long story but my youngest son was determined to get a education. He started going to college and working, getting grants until he was about 2 semesters away from his bachelors, there was no more help. I had no choice than to sighn for a private loan. Which at that time was about what Made in a year. Minimum wage didn't even count as poverty. It was below poverty. Now I 57 disabled drawing 622.00 a month for mortgage etc. hate the thought of dying with him owing his life to the filthy rich who cares about no one but there selves. I was not even told how or what to do if I ever mentioned college. I am pretty darn sure I won't be around as cosighner for that loan I had to sign to get my son enough time to get it started at around eight grand now he is paying it but I think it is around 13000 now. I don't know how to write a petition I would love to see something done about the criminals called other names at wal street and mega banks. I am drifting off to sleep but guess I just had to put my 2 cents in.

  • Loan Forgiveness for Librarians
The Teacher Forgiveness Program needs to include Librarians! My Mum worked hard as an elementary school librarian for many years at HISD and because she was a "librarian" she does not qualify for teacher loan forgiveness. This is not fair! She taught kids to love books and learn to read which included teaching the entire school kids. She is almost 72 and retired and most of her money goes to Parent Plus loans she got for her kids to go to college not even for herself!

  • Stop the Negative Advertisements
I am calling on the Presidential Candidates to stop their negative campaign advertisements and agree to only put out what they can do for us as a society. These negative adds are very stressful and usually not even truth. My 11 year old son is also very affected by these as he is an extremely sensitive child. In this already stressful time, we don't need more stress and hate. The PACs should also be notified by the candidates and agree to NOT put out these horrible ads.

  • Pay What Mitt Pays.
I want to pay less than 14% on my taxes for the next ten years so I can have enough left over to invest in other things. Just like Mitt has the last twelve years. Let's give the middle class the same kind of opportunities!

  • Gov. Quinn: Veto Casino Expansion in Illinois
The Chicago Tribune just reported that Gov. Quinn would spend this weekend deciding whether to veto the casino expansion bill that would add slot machines and allow five more casinos - including one in Lake County - to be built in Illinois. Economic recovery should not be based on games of chance. Casino gambling doesn't lead to real long-term economic development in distressed areas, and it causes serious strains on the infrastructure and social safety net of our communities. And, in May, Gov. Quinn pointed out that this bill "does not include a ban on campaign contributions as lawmakers in other states have done to keep corruption out of the gambling industry." There are better ways for the state of Illinois to get new revenue - like closing corporate tax loopholes and finally passing a progressive income tax - that don't involve turning a blind eye to opportunities for even more corruption from unscrupulous gaming supporters. Gov. Quinn is making his decision this weekend so we have to act fast. Please sign this petition to show Gov. Quinn that if he vetoes the casino bill and focuses on real economic development we'll have his back.

  • Living wages for adjunct professors.
Over two-thirds of the instructors at universities and colleges make less than thirty thousand dollars a year, have no health insurance, no retirement, and no job security. As we enter a new academic year please consider that while tuition has grown out of control little of this money goes towards the salary of instructors. Please stand with us by making this a topic of discussion in the upcoming election.
