• Drop the FICA Cap
This petition will help establish the principal that all income should be subject to FICA. Currently the FICA maximum for any one year is about 110,000. This means that anyone with taxable income over $1,000,000 can reach their FICA max in about 3 days. Most everyone else has to work the rest of the year to approach their FICA max. By eliminating the cap, everyone will pay to the last dollar earned. This will ensure that social security will be secure for all future generations. This is personally important to me because I want to ensure that social security is there for my children and grandchildren.

  • Neutral wireless network
I live in a rural area that only gets AT&T service and I can not switch because no one else gets native service here. The government needs to create a neutral wireless network. This would give regional and rural wireless carriers the ability to compete more effectively on coverage. Putting more pressure on the national carriers and give people in rural areas more options than just AT&T or Verizon.

  • When Paul Ryan called the police on a 67-year-old grandma
My name is Maria Morales. I'm a grandmother from Racine, Wisconsin, and I'm a constituent of Rep. Paul Ryan, the new Republican candidate for vice president. I don't like to complain, but this year has been very difficult for me. I had an appendectomy, and then my doctors told me I have three clogged arteries in my brain. My son has an inoperable cyst in his spinal cord, and my brother is in the hospital too. The health care bills are piling up, and I rely on my unemployment insurance to survive. That's why I was so concerned when I found out that my representative, Paul Ryan, was leading efforts to cut off unemployment insurance for people like me. He's also cut Medicaid and wants to end Medicare, which would really be devastating. I first requested a meeting with Paul Ryan more than a year ago to discuss how his policies are hurting people like me. My hope was that he would hear my story and reconsider. At the very least I deserve to have my voice heard. I am still waiting for that meeting. I called his office and was willing to meet anywhere, for even just a few minutes. I even went to DC to try to meet him there. Later, when I and some other people from my community dropped by his office, his staff called the police. Eventually I got so fed up that I went to his office and simply refused to leave. I waited for seven days, and still I'm waiting. During last year's summer recess, which was an entire month long, Rep. Ryan didn't hold a single town hall meeting in his district. But he did meet with high donors numerous times. I think it's wrong that my congressman has time to meet with large funders, but not the people he's hurting in his district. This December, my jobless benefits will run out. Then I really don't know what I will do, because It's so hard to find a job that will also allow me to maintain my responsibilities to my sick son an brother and the rest of my family. And there are many others in my community with similar situations. I know Paul Ryan is very busy, but I still hope that he will find time, even a few minutes, to meet with me, either in person or on the phone. If he will not, I think America should know what kind of congressman he has been for the working people of Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin.

  • Demand Governor Bill Haslam hold Warren County Sheriff responsible
This petition is to address that unwarranted dog shootings in Warren County, McMinnville, Tenn are not being investigated. These crimes were Class E Felonies and the sheriff refuses to investigate or make an arrest. It is a Sheriff's responsibility to uphold Tennessee state law and not recklessly abandon his oath of office. His behavior has jeopardized the safety of the citizens he is supposed to protect.

  • AG Eric Holder: Fully Investigate and Possibly Prosecute Rupert Murdoch
Through Murdoch's enormous media power, he has influenced policy by constantly banging the drums for war, runaway corporate power, and rampant privatization. Repeated studies also show that the millions of Fox News viewers are far more incorrectly informed of facts than the rest of the public - clearly due to the habitual falsehoods Fox generates, also documented in studies. In England, Murdoch achieved enormous success, power, and influence - up to the top levels of government - through widespread bribery, phone hacking, and other criminal methods. Since his headquarters and major profits are in the USA, it would be foolish for us not to suspect his use of the same criminal methods.

  • Maintain Ethics and Reasonable Morality
Spreading the wealth of USA citizens should be Patriotic rather than letting the Republicans refer to it as communism or socialism. It does not start in local government, churches, etc. It is the responsibility of the Federal Government. We citizens should be PROUD of spreading the wealth which kept our country from going into the direction of other countries. Haiti would be one example in my mind at the moment.

  • AG Eric Holder: Lead a full crackdown on voter suppression measures
The alleged epidemic of "voter fraud" has been completely disproved, as even admitted by some Republicans. Thus, this is clearly a coordinated, systematic GOP program (courtesy of ALEC) to eliminate several million mostly Democratic votes. The GOP hopes to steal a victory–and more power. They fear they won't win in an honest election process. Surely, this is the largest and worst attack on voting rights and fair elections in our history.

  • Congress: End Mindless Regulation.
Americans are over-regulated with complex laws. Elected officials are voting on laws/bills which they have not read; yet they expect citizens to abide by them. Why should a regulation be thousands of pages long? I recently heard a member of the House who did not even understand the questions being asked about a regulation.

  • End the Filibuster
It is time we as a country put a stop to the filibustering procedures of the US senate. Why should one senator or minority party be able to veto the will of the people, congress and the president of the United States? We are fighting two wars and coming out of our worst financial crisis since the great depression. One person should not be able to stop our government from functioning as is the case in the US senate today. Our constitution states that the president is the only person who has veto powers. These powers can be overturned with a 2/3 vote by congress but the filibuster process vetoes the president, congress and our constitutional rights daily. When a legislative procedure proves to be greater than our constitution it must be eliminated. The only acceptable form of filibustering should be one that is very limited in its' scope in terms of time, frequency and duration, and does not require a super majority vote. Using the senate as an example on filibustering, why prevent states from filibustering over congressional members and not let them be seated after being elected? As you can see this would be wrong. The filibuster has proved to be a congressional veto by its' action and history and must be eliminated. I believe we have a right to debate but our right to debate should not stop our right to proceed with a majority vote by congress that the filibuster now stops.
