Ohio Water Withdrawal PermitsThe Ohio legislature and Governor Kasich recently passed legislation necessary under the Great Lakes Compact regarding the withdrawal of water from Lake Erie that allows for the withdrawal of up to 2.5 million gallons of water per day without having to apply for a permit to do so. Most of the states surrounding the Great Lakes limit this to 100,000 gallons a day, so why would Ohio allow 25 times that limit? The legislation the governor signed was introduced by State Rep. Lynn Wachtmann, who happens to sit on the board of directors of the International Bottled Water Association. Although he claims no conflict of interest, even Stevie Wonder could clearly see one. I would like the people of Ohio to be able to vote to limit it to 100,000 gallons like most other states.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tim Smith

Personal Music for Elders in Nursing HomesI am the director of the film, 'Alive Inside', making this film I have seen Personal Music, the music of one's youth, awaken Elders with Alzheimer's Disease, ease loneliness and pain and I am convinced that this inexpensive 'medicine' humanizes life in nursing homes and does so much good at such a low cost that as a society we must provide it to our Elders.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michael Rossato-Bennett

Bring back the Santa Susana Field Labratory Inter-Agency Work GroupThe new leadership at the state toxics agency has shut down the Santa Susana Field Laboratory Inter-Agency Workgroup, which was the only place that the general public could, on a quarterly basis, learn the truth about what was going on with the cleanup of that contaminated site. The Workgroup is critical to assuring that a proper cleanup occurs. Help ensure the polluted site is cleaned up by signing this petition and encouraging your family, friends and colleagues to do the same.240 of 300 SignaturesCreated by William Preston Bowling, ACMELA.org

No Ego Monuments On Taxpayer's DimeThis petition is about a long standing practice of elected officials having monuments, statues, citations, plaques, etc. delivered in their names because they provided tax payer funds to some institution. "Slush funds" or "Pork Barrel" dispersements to non-profits, education, etc. should be credited to tax payers not their representatives (unless those elected officials can demonstrate that all such funds come from their private bank accounts).1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dale Benjamin Drakeford

Revoke the BSA Congressional CharterAs a former den leader and pack secretary/treasurer who was kicked out for being gay back in 1998, I have followed the BSA's position on gay membership closely. In the case of Dale v BSA that was argued before the US Supreme Court, the BSA successfully petitioned the court to recognize it as a private religious organization. This decision effectively permits the BSA to discriminate against whomever it chooses. And as much as people may not want to accept it, that is their constitutional right. Imagine one of your church groups being forced to accept someone that did not follow the same teachings as your church. However, as a private religious organization, the government, whether local, state or federal, MUST dissociate itself with the BSA. Failure to do so is a clear violation of the First Amendment. Therefore, it is imperative that the US Congress revoke the charter it granted the BSA back in 1916 that effectively gives it a monopoly not only on the use of the term "scouts" (amended to allow the Girl Scouts to use it in 1954) but also on the type of program. The BSA has successfully sued to prevent the formation of similar organizations that are inclusive and non-discriminatory. It is able to do so solely because of the Congressional charter. Contact your representative and your senator and tell them to revoke the BSA charter. Tell them that the government of the US must not endorse any private religious organization. Tell them that every young boy— gay or straight, atheist or agnostic or relgious— has the right to have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits offered by an organization that helps them develop their character, their self-esteem and their sense of responsibility to the community.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Shelly Strauss Rollison
