Care Provider Tax Credits & Longer Family Medical Leave Act TimeOur nation's law makers should take steps to extend the length of Family Medical Leave Act Time and offer meaningful tax credits to the millions of Americans caring for an aging or disabled baby boomer family member. My father Mike is currently on SSI and Medicare and when his illness becomes severe, which is often, I must take off from work. Things became complicated this year when I was out due to an automobile accident. I have now run out of FMLA and sick time for the year and am at the mercy of my employer. Meanwhile, I am paying for much of his care, while performing three peoples' jobs doing personal care, house cleaning, etc. all on top of my career as a flight attendant. Quality skilled nursing facilities can cost up to $6,000.00 a month, a figure simply out of reach for most working people. My situation is not unusual This is happening to so many of us. The emotional and financial drain is unbelievable.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Eileen Halladay

Pork Industry trying to stop California's progressive food productionYes. California just voted to address humane farming regarding Chickens, veal, and to stop poisons in sprays, etc. The Pork Industry is afraid that these measures might creep into the Pork States like Iowa. They went to have Federal standards of food production and want to deny States from enacting their own standards. They snuck an amendment into the Agricultural bill at midnight denying States the right to pass their own food productions laws. This will undo our pesticide laws, humane laws, milk standards, egg productions,, etc.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mary Sproat

Stop Voter SuppressionThe voter ID laws that have been passed in twentysomething states are merely a revival of Jim Crow Laws and poll taxes. As a country, we have grown past these archaic, racist laws yet we have stumbled as a democracy when the powers to be can enact a law that is a subterfuge. The proponents of the law claim that there are fraudulent voters, yet in the past 12 years there has only been 13 proven attempts to misrepresent a voter's true identity. This law requires a voter to produce identification at the poll. If a voter does not have a driver's license, he/she must produce a state-verified voter ID which can only be obtained with #1...a birth certificate...and #2 a social security card ..#3 ... utility records showing past bills paid. A passport will also suffice though a passport currently costs $150 and expires after ten years. In Pennsylvania, 9.2% of the population currently will be banned from voting. A large number of that percentage are in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, both cities with large African-American populations. Representative Turzai recently...and proudly stated that the republican congress of Pennsylvania has successfully passed a voter ID law which in his words has thrown Pennsylvania into Governor Romney's camp. His words to the Republican State Committee in Hershey were directed toward the republican-dominated congress in which he stated, " Voter ID laws which are going to allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania...DONE! It is on tape...simply Google it. This petition is important in that on July 25th, the law will be review by the courts and hopefully will go before the state supreme court before the election. Please sign this petition to repeal this onerous law intended NOT to correct voter irregularity but merely a means to deny a segment of the population their constitutional right.8,346 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by Thomas P. The End of War-making Is In Sight! Amend Our Constitution!War-making is obsolete. In today’s nuclear age it is also suicidal. The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom is currently campaigning for a Congressional resolution to bring a version of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Written by U.S. occupation forces in1946 Article 9 declares that Japan will never again make war. Japan has not made war in 66 years while growing to become an economic giant on the world stage. Not one soldier or civilian lost in combat. Not one war declared in that time. This is a legacy and an example for the world to follow. With Article 9 in our constitution, we and Japan can form a coalition to support the United Nations in abolishing war-making as a political and economic tool.77 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David Rothauser

Alaska Lt Gov Denies Homeless Vet's Candidacy for State HouseLTC(Ret) Barbara Bachmeier was certified to run for the Alaska State House in the upcoming elections, but after her opponent filed a residency challenge, Lt Gov Mead Treadwell disallowed her candidacy, knowing that the decision did not include a complete review of all the evidence. After telling Barbara that he did not have any involvement with the decertification decision and pledging to look into the matter, Treadwell chooses to ignore all inquiries. [Some offices in Alaska state government, are not required to respond to constituent inquiries. Governor's office states this is not their problem.]6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Barbara Bachmeier

The Inhumane Treatment Of The Rohingya People By The Myanmar GovernmentThe Rohingyas are being denied statehood by their own government. They are being forced to move out of their homeland. The Myanmar Government does not recognize them as citizens of Myanmar. The Rohingyas have been living in West Myanmar for hundreds of years. They are being discriminated against because of their ethnicity and religion. I’m not a Rohingya. I’m doing this totally tor humanitarian reason. I became aware of the plight of the Rohingya during my stay in Bangkok Thailand in 2009 while I was there on a graduate study program in International Relations. Meeting some of the refugees from Myanmar helped me learn of their daily struggle. The academic discussions about the subject showed me the intensity of the humanitarian disaster. Now that the political and economic situation in Myanmar is improving, it is time for the Myanmar Government to start working on solving the problems of all the suffering minorities of Myanmar including the Rohingya. I call on the President of the USA Barack Obama, and the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to take advantage of this opportunity in order to end the persecution of all minorities In Myanmar.62 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Salim M. Send Water not Oil to TexasIf we're going to build a pipeline from the Canadian border, let's build one to bring water from the Great Lakes to Texas. Let's power the pumps with solar and wind power installed along its route. Let's help the climate change deniers see the benefits of renewable energy sources to them.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Hortari Berg

Don't Force Smart Meters on Us!Smart Meters are being forced on us by our utility companies. They emit microwave radiation almost 24/7. They also invade our privacy because they can tell when you are home and what you are doing in your home electronically. After installation, people have complained that their bills have increased. We deserve the ability to opt-out with no fees.21 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Marcia Hoodwin
