In the city of Gary, where jobs are seriously scarce and hard to find, people are losing their jobs for absolutely nothing. Majority of these businesses don't even follow the policies they have set for themselves. The cost of living and the amount of people either on welfare or unemployed is enormous in this city. I just want the people to have a fair chance at keeping their jobs.

In this age of the internet, online conferencing and telecommuting, why does Congress still need to meet in Washington, D.C.? The members should have an office in their home district or state where they spend their time and are more accessible to their constituents. They would be more in tune with the needs of the people they were elected to represent and save money in travel and housing expenses. Lobbyists would have to travel to the districts instead of having Congress as a captive audience in Washington, D.C.

We have made great strides this year against bullying with the passage of Matt's Safe School Law, however more needs to be done. Currently no laws have been passed regarding cyber bullying which is currently on the rise. Victims of cyber bullying aren't able to escape the harassment inflicted on them by their peers by going home as with traditional bullying. Victims of cyber bulling have no safe place.

As of now in the United States, there are almost no regulations on what ingredients are to be listed on a can of beer, or Mikes Hard (or any other malt). There are no ingredients list, and no calorie information required. Alcoholic beverages should be no different then normal soda and juice when it comes to nutritional information listings. There is no reason beer companies should be able to slip in whatever kind of preservative, sulfate, or artificial flavoring into their drinks without us knowing. This petition is for getting the Nutrition Facts label and Ingredients list on all alcoholic beverages (including hard liquor and wine) sold in retail stores across the United States, and making it a lawful requirement.

Any new people considering running for public office MUST work full time at minimum wage for ONE YEAR of their life. Not as a kid living with their family, but as an adult. No supplements or help from friends or family. Too long we've been electing people who are from rich families and far removed from the reality most Americans have to face at one time or another. If they wish to represent us, they must live as most of us.

Every President, according to the Constitution, has a responsibility to commute sentences of worthy inmates. President Bush & President Obama have the worst records but it's not their faults. Ronald Rogers has withheld worthy petitions, and withheld supporting documents. He should be replaced by someone who is just, fair, compassionate & competent.

The vast majority of those on Medicare who are disabled suffer from a mental illness. This effects millions of people of all ages. Mental health parity, or allowing mental health coverage to be the same as physical health coverage in insurance, was passed by Congress a few years ago for employers' health insurance. Yet, the government's own form of insurance only covers 55% of mental health bills (as opposed to 80% for physical health.) It is critical that Congress even the playing field by passing mental health parity for Medicare as well as for all other insurances. To not do this would be the worst kind of discrimination.

Although I basically believe in the concept of the bill, I do think that it needs to be rewritten to make it more transparent and easier to understand. Should it be mandatory for everyone considering many make so little that they cannot afford the insurance. What is the workaround?
