Our government is under attack by corporate money, and Citizens United gives corporations more power in government. As super PACs grow, money continues to represent speech, allowing corporations to influence Washington more than our own citizens. We need your support on a constitutional amendment to get money out of politics.

For the past several years, Seattle Public Schools has been a national leader in efforts to limit the influence of advertising in the school environment. The existing policy banned all advertising in schools because “compulsory attendance creates an obligation for the school district to protect the welfare of students”. However, on June 20, the Seattle School Board is voting to amend their current policy to ALLOW CORPORATE ADVERTISING IN THE SCHOOLS. The proposed amendment is extremely vague and allows advertising banners to be hung on school “fields” (ie, next to playgrounds) and reinstates Channel One, a controversial ad-supported classroom TV network. The proposed amendment mentions that the funds “may” be used for ASB (ie student activity funds), but it makes no promise that the funds will go there rather than to general district overhead and bureaucracy. Despite the economic crisis facing most of us, American corporations are making record profits. School districts should be TAXING corporations rather than doing their bidding for a few crumbs. (One could argue that many of these corporations created the financial crisis that drained tax revenues and increased schools’ dependence on corporations.) Today, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) announced they are going to work towards a ban of pads and chains on the Tennessee Walking Horse. Two leading veterinary groups called for a ban on the use of devices and training methods that intentionally inflict pain on tennessee walking horses to accentuate the horses' high steps, a practice known as soring.

Encourage the PGA to take action against uncouth persons in the gallery who lack golf etiquette and common manners and shout at the players of golf tournaments. These behaviors cause the offending gallery members to appear as ignorant drunken miscreants and reflects poorly on the gallery members as a whole. This behavior also interferes in the least with the pleasure of the other observers and at the worst disrupts the concentration of the golfers themselves.

Attorney General Eric Holder is currently under a vicious attack from right-wing extremists simply for enforcing our laws. These extremists our attacking the very fabric of what democracy is all about and they must be held accountable. During the last primary in California, two mayors were able to get propositions passed to fix their budget crises. In Wisconsin, workers' rights to negotiate were reduced. However, no one considers the healtcare and pension plans of politicians.
