On May 8, 2012, the state of North Carolina passed an amendment to its constitution that would ban any "domestic legal union" other than marriage between one man and one woman. This amendment will have devastating consequences for NC families, gay or straight, in terms of access to healthcare, higher taxes, protections against domestic violence, death benefits, pensions, hospital visitation rights, etc. We call upon the Democratic National Committee to take a stand for justice and equality by pulling the 2012 National Convention out of Charlotte, NC.

To illustrate that elections do have consequences, don't spend any money in the state of North Carolina.

Now that the state of North Carolina has codified hate in its constitution, a stand needs to be taken to show that this is not acceptable behavior. The Democratic National Convention should be moved from Charlotte, NC to a location in a state that fully supports equal rights.

Governor Beshear has the key and must step in and provide justice for Thomas Payne, Jr., his family, and the community to which he wishes to return and make a meaningful contribution. 61 year old Thomas Payne, Jr., has been serving a life sentence for the majority of his adult life. Thomas was 20 years old when his actions resulted in this sentence. He lives with remorse every day for his actions and dedicates his life to Christ. He has more than served the time of his sentence, enough to merit an equitable commutation. In fact, he has served enough time toward a twenty year sentence to merit release without application of credit for good time earned. At present, he is working as an Institutional Grievance Aide at Little Sandy Hook Correctional Complex. In this role, he interacts daily with staff and inmates concerning dispute resolution and problem solving. He utilizes this position to positively impact the beliefs, values, and behaviors of young inmates having issues with adjustment and rebellion against authority. These contributions can be put to better use if we take action today!

In today's wireless high-tech society corporate greed for profit has overridden the concern for the health and welfare of the people. This petition is to demand the White House and Congress to require all corporations to be accountable for the new technologies that they implement. Three to four percent of the population are electrically/radio sensitive and have ill effects from high frequency devices. Doctors are finding more and more cases of cell phone related tumors. The World Health Organization has listed cell phones as a possible carcinogen and high frequency devices have been known to affect pacemakers, blood insulin devices and other medical devices.

Tuition increases are becoming one of the biggest obstacles for our highest achieving students from furthering their education. Affordability should not be a determinant when an individual is deciding to receive higher education. Our generation needs to commit to providing college opportunities for all students. California and its future generations will benefit from this investment.

Wanda Ramey - a retired businesswoman - broke her hip last winter. Because of Medicare, she was able to get the surgery and treatment she needed. If the Republican Billionaire Budget passes, Medicare will end as we know it. Senior citizens like Wanda Ramey are really concerned about this. Will they be able to afford essential healthcare once the Republican Millionaire Budget passes? Shortly before her death, Irene Goodman was booked into a HELOC loan at Citibank. Citibank claims Mrs. Goodman was overdrawn on her checking account approximately $4,500, yet they cannot (or will not) produce documentation to prove it. Mrs. Goodman's personal banker, who signed her for the loan, was also the Notary Public on the loan. When Irene Goodman passed, her daughter, Debra, inherited the house, and the debt, as the loan was secured to the house, creating financial hardship on her. Debra has taken many routes to resolve this matter, all without success, due in large part to the dismissive attitude of Citibank employees. Now she is dealing with the negative aftermath of a loan whose origin was questionable, at best. On Saturday, March 17, 2012 PA Representative Brian Ellis, sponsor of Act 13, publicly announced that he had brokered a deal with Wal-Mart to donate 2,000 gallons of water to the families whose well water went bad since natural gas drilling began in their rural community. Although 2,000 gallons will not last long, the community struggles to make due on a daily basis and depends on each and every gallon. Despite repeated phone calls from community members they are yet to see a single gallon of what was promised them.

Vice President Biden's recent comments in support of marriage equality set off a storm of calls for President Obama to stop dancing around his own support for full rights for LGBT citizens. Obama's continuing reliance on his statement that he is "evolving" so he won't offend swing voters in key battleground states is unnecessary because 50% of Americans now support gay marriage.

At age 18 EVERY person living in USA serves 2-years of government sponsored service including but not limited to military training and advanced specialty education. Education training could cover unlimited subjects--how to build low cost housing, teacher's aides, hospital orderlies, police force adjuncts--wherever a need for help is required. Four million Americans turn 18 each year; a host of helping hands and eager minds addressing some of our most trying needs.
