• No Port in Southport
For some time the State of North Carolina has contemplated putting a large container port on the shore bordering Southport, an scenic fishing village of about 3000 people. It is the site of the sate's 4 of July Parade and has one of the most scenic Main Streets in the country. Moreover, it is a biodiversity hotspot: fish, marshlands, bird nesting sanctuaries, and sea turtle habitat. A container port would destroy all that we have and make us sick with diesel particulates and other carcinogens. Stop this port now and forever!

  • STOP SB 2109 Navajo-Hopi Little Colorado River Water Rights Settlement Act
The Bill SB 2109 would require the Navajo and Hopi Tribes to relinquish future claims over water quality and loss of traditional springs, to waive their priority Water Rights to the surface waters of the Little Colorado River. In return the promise is of uncertain federal appropriations to supply minimal amounts of drinking water. It also denies the Tribes the economic market of value of their water rights, and force them to dependence on uncertain federal funding of any water projects. See attached video for more information. Please call Senators John McCain (202) 224-2235 and Jon Kyle (202) 224-4521 and Representative Ben Quale (602) 263-5300, requesting them to withdraw SB 2109.

  • Save the Name Imperial Avenue-Do Not Change It!
We're calling to oppose that the name of Imperial Avenue is changed. Dismissing the name where 11 women were murdered at the hands of a serial killer would be dismissing the story of what happened there. This story needs to be remembered and not forgotten! It should be addressed so that healing can begin and a community can be restored from this tragedy.

  • Save the Philadelphia Public School System from being privatized!
The School Reform Commission(SRC) that was created to protect public education in Philadelphia has been leading it down a path of ruin and destruction since it was formed. Their latest decision is to close 40 more schools many of which will convert to charters. We must save public education in Philadelphia. Every school can be a great school if it is supported. The SRC is supposed to protect the school system not sell it off.

we used to have duty on anything that came into thyis country. now that the ryan plan has a way for the rich and the corporations to move all their earnings off our shores a 10% duty on all imports would also pay for infrastructure. the american labor costs around 7% give or take a fraction of a percent. this would force the corporations to locate back in the u.s.

  • Modification To The Railway Labor Act
Airline negotiations fall under the Railway Labor Act. Sounds odd, but the owners of the rails, over 100 years ago, wanted to ensure the trains would always run. By making it illegal to strike, when a contract ends, guaranteed the trains would operate. The U.S. airline system works the same way today. American and USAir pilots have been in negotiations for 6 years. United and Continental are in their 3rd and 4th years respectively. Airline managements drag their feet because they can and avoid pay increases for years. Labor needs the ability to strike when a contract ends and or receive cost of living adjustments for every month a contract goes beyond its amendable date.

  • Save College Hill
We must stop the Gilbane Development Company from developing a massive apartment complex in the College Hill neighborhood. This proposal will demolish 9 houses, drastically affect the integrity of our neighborhood, and substantially conflict with the approved comprehensive plan. We need to save College Hill homes and save the College Hill neighborhood.
