Petition to Tucson City Mayor and Council to End Corporate PersonhoodIf you believe corporations are not people and money is not speech please sign this petition asking Tucson Mayor and City Council to pass a resolution stating this. While the above statement is so obvious that our founding fathers did not think it necessary to put it in the original U.S. Constitution, unfortunately there have been activist judges on the U.S. Supreme Court who have made such a common sense statement necessary. As a result of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the Citizen's United case it has become necessary to pass an amendment to the U.S. Constitution stating corporations are not people and money is not speech. This Supreme Court ruling has allowed corporations the ability to spend unlimited amounts of money in elections, thus making it possible for them to buy candidates. This undermines the basic tenants of democracy and has effectively prevented the average American from having a voice in their government. The only way to reestablish democracy in America and give the voice back to the people is by passing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution stating corporations are not people and money is not speech. The goal of this petition is to help with the building of grass roots support of this Constitutional Amendment. Currently politicians are indebted to big campaign donors (i.e. corporations) and will not pass this amendment unless forced to by the American people. A resolution passed by Tucson Mayor and City Council will be nonbinding, since they do not have the power or authority to change the U.S. Constitution, but it will help build this grass roots movement that will end up forcing Congress and the states to pass this amendment. Please sign this resolution and show the government that the people of Tucson, AZ are demanding this Amendment to the U.S.Constitution, because we are demanding they restore our democracy.22 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anna Steele

Remove Oil and Gas Subsidies to Fund Low Stafford Loan Interest RatesStafford loans are scheduled to double from around 3% to over 6% in the next few weeks! Almost every middle to lower income person with a college education in America has or is benefiting from these low interest, federally subsidized loans. Americans are saddled with more debt due to student loans than credit cards and we cannot afford this increase, especially now. President Obama proposes funding the continuation of low interest rates by cutting federal subsidies for oil and gas companies, currently earning record profits of 104 million dollars every single day. Republicans, also wanting to keep loan rates low, propose getting the funds from federal money allocated to preventative medecine for women and children, like mammograms and vaccinations. We must let all our Congress know that they have no reasonable grounds for keeping these interest rates low by compromising the heath of American women and children. There is only one choice, stop lining the pockets of big oil.10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Netanya Welch

Restore Fair ElectionsTo give powers back to Congress and the States that have been arrogated by the Supreme Court may require a 28th Amendment to the Constitution. The text above will be on the ballot in November across Massachusetts, and it is offered as a model for other states and municipalities to encourage others to become active in protecting our democracy from domination by big money and big corporations.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Davio Danielson

Transition from Coal to RenewablesEveryday, tons upon tons of carbon pollution, ozone, nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxides, particulate matter and mercury – all from coal - exact a staggering price. Coal is the primary driver of man-made climate change – the defining moral and ethical environmental challenge of our age. The production cycle of coal is a cycle of death - especially for the people living in the toxic shadows of coal plants: breast cancers, stomach cancers, heart and lung disease and asthma.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mariel Nanasi

Preserving our Old West End Historic District Landscape, Toledo OhioThe City of Toledo has failed to "notify" its citizens, and historic district residents, as to their “rights” and responsibilities under Federal law. Additionally city officials have failed to involve any interested citizens as required, from the very early stages of planning for the reconstruction of Collingwood Avenue until the required Section 106 review is finally completed. President Obama: End high-stakes testing in public elementary and secondary schools.Despite changes under the current administration, high-stakes testing remains a cornerstone of "accountability measures" for schools. This testing harms schools and has caused states to lower their standards so that their students perform better on the tests. Teachers are now so stressed from this unreasonable emphasis on testing, which takes away from college readiness and higher-order thinking, that they routinely dissuade others from entering this important field. We call on President Obama to end high-stakes testing in schools and develop alternative means of school improvement using those same resources. Vets Who Get Paid for Children They Don't SupportDisabled veterans who are non-custodial parents and provide little or no support for their children are entitled by law to receive disability benefit stipends for these children, just because their name is on the birth certificate, though they do not support the children. Also the custodial parent is not entitled to any of these funds if the veteran says there is a hardship. How can they be entitled to federal funds for children they are not supporting?3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Patricia Murray
