Oregon State Legislators: Serve Oregonians not ALEC Corporations!Oregonians deserve true representation of their needs by all the legislators they elect to the Oregon Legislature. Eighteen Oregon Republican Representatives and Senators are associates of the powerful and secretive American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) which claims to be a nonpartisan charity yet lobbies for the interests of large corporations rather than the public interests of Oregon citizens who elected them to office. The subterfuge under which ALEC operates has been challenged by Common Cause, which filed a complaint in April with the IRS, charging that ALEC is a lobbyist organization rather than a charity and misuses charity laws, extensively under-reports lobbying, and improperly obtains tax breaks for political donations by ALEC’s corporate funders to state candidates, ballot measures, leadership, and other political committees, funneling millions of dollars into Oregon in order to skew the Oregon political process. The ALEC agenda seeks to remove federal and state environmental regulations, repeal the federal health care reform law, dump state minimum wage laws, and bust unions. What the ALEC agenda does espouse is taxpayer support of public subsidies for private schools, privatization of prisons/detention centers coupled with support for Draconian immigration laws to provide profits for the private corrections industry, and restrictions on voting rights which discriminately disenfranchise people of color, senior citizens, students, and the poor. Oregonians have the right to expect that their interests will be served by their elected officials without the interference of undue monetary and philosophical influence of out-of-state mega-corporations. The following Oregon elected officials who hold current ALEC affiliations have been identified using three resources: Oregon’s campaign finance database ORESTAR, The Oregonian, and analysis by the Center for Media and Democracy at ALEC Exposed (http://alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_Exposed). (Those legislators who contact this petition framer to report that they are not current associates of ALEC will be removed from this list. Updated as of November 17, 2012.): Oregon Senator Larry George, R-Sherwood Oregon Senator Fred Girod, R-Stayton Oregon Senator Ted Ferrioli, R-John Day Oregon Representative Sal Esquivel, R-Medford Oregon Representative Tim Freeman, R-Roseburg Oregon Representative Kim Thatcher, R-Keizer Oregon Representative Gene Whisnant, R-Sunriver Oregon Representative Bruce Hanna, R-Roseburg Oregon Representative Jason Conger, R-Bend Oregon Representative Mark Johnson, R-Hood River Oregon Representative Dennis Richardson, R-Central Point Oregon Representative Sherrie Sprenger, R-Scio Oregon Representative Jim Thompson, R-Dallas Oregon Representative Kevin Cameron, R-Salem Oregon Representative Wally Hicks, R-Grants Pass Oregon Representative John Huffman, R-The Dalles Oregon Representative Bill Kennemer, R-Oregon City Oregon Representative Mike McLane, R-Powell Butte962 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Hyung Nam

Investigate & Prosecute Bush Officials for War CrimesFor eight years, senior officials within the George W. Bush administration had knowingly and wilfully commmitted crimes against humanity. They have violated the U.S. Constitution and the Geneva Convention Accords by lying the U.S. government into war with Iraq, allowed torture to occur under their watch, illegally spied on American citizens' telecommunications such as e-mails and cell phone calls without a warrant as an excuse for "national security policy", and commited treason by revealing the identity of a covert CIA operative, Valerie Plame-Wilson, as a means of political retaliation. Today, these felons are walking free and doing book tours and speaking at lavish, high-paying events when they should be arrested, investigated, given a fair trial and prosecuted for their crimes against humanity. These Bush administration officials have snickered at the face of justice and have damaged the reputation and influence of this once-great nation. Something must be done to preserve the "rule of law"!9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carlos J. Echevarria

Get All Money Out of ElectionsOur representatives do not represent the people any longer; they represent the corporations and the rich. As long as special interests pour money into the pockets of politicians, the politicians will do their bidding. All elections should be publicly financed. Only then will the people's best interest be at the forefront.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gregory Doty

No Port in SouthportFor some time the State of North Carolina has contemplated putting a large container port on the shore bordering Southport, an scenic fishing village of about 3000 people. It is the site of the sate's 4 of July Parade and has one of the most scenic Main Streets in the country. Moreover, it is a biodiversity hotspot: fish, marshlands, bird nesting sanctuaries, and sea turtle habitat. A container port would destroy all that we have and make us sick with diesel particulates and other carcinogens. Stop this port now and forever!256 of 300 SignaturesCreated by David Sepsenwol

STOP SB 2109 Navajo-Hopi Little Colorado River Water Rights Settlement ActThe Bill SB 2109 would require the Navajo and Hopi Tribes to relinquish future claims over water quality and loss of traditional springs, to waive their priority Water Rights to the surface waters of the Little Colorado River. In return the promise is of uncertain federal appropriations to supply minimal amounts of drinking water. It also denies the Tribes the economic market of value of their water rights, and force them to dependence on uncertain federal funding of any water projects. See attached video for more information. Please call Senators John McCain (202) 224-2235 and Jon Kyle (202) 224-4521 and Representative Ben Quale (602) 263-5300, requesting them to withdraw SB 2109.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Francisco L. Save the Name Imperial Avenue-Do Not Change It!We're calling to oppose that the name of Imperial Avenue is changed. Dismissing the name where 11 women were murdered at the hands of a serial killer would be dismissing the story of what happened there. This story needs to be remembered and not forgotten! It should be addressed so that healing can begin and a community can be restored from this tragedy.29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rev.Dr. LaDonna Blaylock

Save the Philadelphia Public School System from being privatized! The School Reform Commission(SRC) that was created to protect public education in Philadelphia has been leading it down a path of ruin and destruction since it was formed. Their latest decision is to close 40 more schools many of which will convert to charters. We must save public education in Philadelphia. Every school can be a great school if it is supported. The SRC is supposed to protect the school system not sell it off.2,963 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Joshua Meeuws
