  • LIFT THE EMBARGO ON CUBA
The U.S. Trade Embargo with Cuba which was created in 1961 has run its course and now is the time to normalize relations with our southern neighbor nation. We should not be influenced by those Cubans who now live in South Florida and hold grudges against the Castro regime. The American government needs to act to encourage a period of healing which will follow the eventual death of Fidel and Raul Castro and free this island nation to create a self-determined form of government.

  • Filing federal and state income tax on Social Security
Many of us on social security are forced to continue working due to the economy and the loss of much of our retirement after 9/11. We have already paid the taxes on the social security we are drawing and continue to pay into social security while still working. People over 70 SHOULD NOT have to claim social security on Federal and State Tax returns!

  • Stop financial discrimination in schools
Parents everywhere are suffering financially. Not every family qualifies for free lunches, yet even reduced lunches can get costly. Some parents are having to choose between paying their bills, putting gas in the car, or immediately paying off their children's student lunch accounts. Schools then suspend children with a negative balance on their lunch accounts from attending fun activities & games. In effect punishing them for their family's financial status. Congress needs to act & stop this type of discrimination now! Students should not be prevented from enjoying activities because their parents can't afford to feed them. Congress should draft legislation preventing schools from suspending children with negative lunch balances from attending fun games, rallies, etc.. End financial discrimination in schools now!

  • Tax the Catholic Church
In recent months, the Catholic Church has launched unprecedented political attacks against President Obama. One bishop went as far as likening President Obama to Hitler and Stalin from the pulpit of his church. Such political activity against a particular candidate violates the tax-exempt status, and as citizens we should not be indirectly funding them.

  • Save the College Hill neighborhood
We must stop the Gilbane Development Company from developing a massive apartment complex in the College Hill neighborhood. This proposal will drastically affect the integrity of our neighborhood, and substantially conflict with the approved comprehensive plan. Our stated goal to protect the character and scale of existing commercial buildings along Thayer Street by containing the existing commercial district and discouraging zoning variances has not changed in the few months since the neighborhood plans were approved. We need to save College Hill homes and save the College Hill neighborhood.

  • To change American elections from the 1st Tuesday to the 1st Sunday of the Month
Inspired by the recent French elections where 80% of the population turned out to vote, we should push our legislators to switch our voting day from the first Tuesday of the month to the first Sunday of the month. Voting on Tuesdays keeps many working adults from being able to participate in democratic process. Switching to Sundays would increase the opportunity for higher electoral participation.

  • US Constitution's definition of people
This is about the constitutional rights of people, or persons, as opposed to corporate and other legal entities. The people's rights have been betrayed by the recent legal re-interpretation of the definition of a person, by such cases as "Citizen's United". This petition re-establishes the definition of a person.

  • Stop Michele Leqve From Killing Any More Polar Bears!
Michele Leqve has titled herself as "The Premier Bow Huntress" but in the case of her killing of a polar bear, a species that was just recently removed from the endangered species list, the fact is that she hired a team of dogs to chase the polar bear until he was too weak to fight for his own life. Then and only then did the cowardly "Bow Huntress" pull out her high-powered bow and shoot several arrows into the exhausted bear. To add insult to her disgraceful act, she, with full makeup, poses with a big grotesque smile behind the dead Polar Bear. Please contact CEO [email protected] and let him know that you are appalled at Michele Leqves' horrible killing of polar bears. Do it now before she kills again. Thanks, Cisco

  • Calling For a Return to Critical Thinking in Congress
An examination of the House and Senate voting record for the past-too-many years would be revealing. The individuals we HIRE to represent us seem to have checked their "thought process" at the door. Both sides react like two year olds saying "NO" loudly just because the other side poses an idea. United We Stand has become a bumper-sticker.. A joke.
