  • Universal Medicare Access
Americans don't want health insurance, they want health care, and believe it is the right, not the privilege, of every citizen. Medicare is currently serving millions, at a very low administrative cost, and functioning satisfactorily. I propose we eliminate two words in the Medicare Act: Over 65. Then all persons would have access to medical care. I propose it be paid for in a similar fashion as Social Security; with a payroll tax shared by the employee and employer.

  • Change Laws in Texas To Stop Elders Deaths
When I was an old Nurse many medications were thrown in the trash to keep the elderly in Nursing Homes alive. Stop over dosing our elders for money. Stop allowing felons to care for the elderly in their own homes. Full disclosure laws need to be in place. No free rent off the elderly by felons unrelated and bonding out of jail needs a 10 day waiting period. Truth. More truth.

  • White House/DHS Should Reunite Haitian Families!
The White House should instruct DHS Secretary Napolitano to create a Haitian Family Reunification Program to expeditiously reunite with their families many of the 112,000 beneficiaries of DHS-approved family-based visa petitions who remain on a wait list of nearly three to eleven years in Haiti, where many won't survive. This would mirror DHS's ongoing Cuban program and has broad support because it has precedent and would save lives, help Haiti recover and cost little.

  • Institute Civil Rights Protections in the Referendum Process
Civil and political rights are a class of rights that protect individuals' freedom from unwarranted infringement by governments, private organizations and fellow citizens and ensure one's ability to participate in the civil and political life of the state without discrimination or repression. Part of the reason that we have civil right's legal protections is because historically, different groups of people have been denied those rights at all levels of society based on their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability or national origin. The civil rights of a group of people should not be allowed to be curtailed in any way through the use of popular vote.

  • Railyard Relocation
With the prospect of increased coal transports through Missoula's city core and neighborhoods it is time to begin drawing plans to relocate the railyard presently located in Missoula's Downtown. Missoula will soon be Montana's largest city and having a heavy industrial operation within the city limits is not healthy or practical, environmentally or economically .

  • Tell us everything upfront!
Have you ever seen a television commercial for a weight loss supplement, an excercise machine, or a diet program? They have models showing you before & after shots like the product really works. Unfortunately, they fail to tell us that all the programs must incorporate a halthy diet & an excercise program. This is listed in the very small fine print on the bottom where it is difficult to see. The same applies to many other ads like automotive sales, car insurance, food, etc... Ever heard an ad for a car sale on the radio? At the end of the ad there is someone speaking really quickly telling us about all the hidden requirements for the deal being offered. Why are companies allowed to tell us one thing in their ads & then say something else in fine print? Companies should be obligated to tell consumers everything up front without hiding anything. Recently the aviation industry was required to show the total cost of a ticket including taxes, so why can't the rest of the bsuiness world be required to get rid of the fine print too?

  • Putting an end to Daylight Savings Time
I believe, as a country, we should put an end to this ridiculous practice of Daylight Savings Time. Switching the time back and forth twice a year is, at best, inconvenient - at worst, deadly. As a former clinical researcher, I feel certain that a review of the appropriate records would support my suspicion that this change, particularly in the spring, is responsible for accidents of all kinds that could be avoided otherwise. I am speaking particularly about hospital errors and traffic accidents, but any activity that requires alertness and accuracy is at risk of being compromised by citizens who are sleep-deprived and groggy for the days or weeks it takes to readjust their biological clocks. Pity the students as well, who are coming to the end of their school semester and must readjust their bodies at a critical point in their school year. As humans, we all have biorhythms and this practice is a ridiculous disservice to our general health. I would prefer that we remain on the "natural" time year-round, but would settle for either schedule if we would just stick to one of them.
