• Saving American History on Film,
I teach History and when I search for filmed material to use as backup I am faced with the fact that much of our History is un-known. Filmmakers do not publish things that don't sell in a mass audience. Virtually all of the exploration and surveying of our West was done by the US Army and when it was done, it was locked away forever. We sent an Sea exploration around the world in the mid 1800s, that team found the continent of Antarctica and made the initial surveys of our West. We know little of this. I can think of lots of blank spots that deserve to be filmed by our government and distributed for educational purposes.

  • FREE THE AMISH 7!
Sam Mullet, an elderly Amish bishop, and six other Amish men, including his three sons, have been held in federal custody, without bail, since their preposterous arrest on federal hate crime charges in late 2011. The charges are based upon alleged unwanted cutting of the hair of other members of the Amish community with whom Mullet and others had an internal theological dispute. The Amish community had settled this internal dispute within their own communal system, but sought outside help for what they hoped would be psychological counseling for Mullet. Instead, federal agents took it upon themselves to vehemently pursue criminal charges. Steven Dettelbach, the controversial US Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, charged the seven men with violations of the Matthew Shepard-James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act for the alleged hair cutting. In mid-April 2012, Dettelbach's office brought additional charges of kidnapping and destruction of evidence against the defendants, which now include six Amish women. Dan Aaron Polster, an equally controversial federal judge assigned this case, denied bail to the original 7 defendants and these farmers have remained in jail, far from their fields and families, since November 23rd. A trial date has been set for late August, guaranteeing a total crop loss on Mullet's 800-acre farm in rural Jefferson County in eastern Ohio. In a time when a high profile football coach accused of raping scores of boys is free on bond and when a white man accused of murdering a Black teen in a high profile case is also free on bond, it is an outrage that these seven pacifist farmers rot in jail while their crops rot or never appear in their fields.

  • Facebook: Remove Luis Garcia and his bogus "support group"
Luis Garcia has formed a series of "support groups" targeting abused women. He emotionally abuses the women in his groups, calling them paranoid for suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, and insisting on phone calls from those who disagree with him so he can harass them further. He made harassing calls to one woman for months after she left his group. He posts the Facebook profiles of those who disagree with him in order to intimidate them, and posts private messages for the same reason. His current group International Survivors of Sociopaths or Domestic Violence Healing even has people seeking the contact info of those who have not succumbed to his manipulations. He has posted many times in his "support groups" about how he has grabbed his wife's phone away from her (taking away communication is a form of abuse) and blaming his wife's PTSD for thinking this was abusive (victim blaming). Please remove this man and his group and keep him from doing any further harm to those who have suffered enough as a result of domestic violence.

  • Repeal Citizens United Supreme Court Decision
Our representative democracy is under attack from the corporations and super pac interest groups who are able to buy elections. The corporations have now achieved all of the rights of personhood, with none of the responsibilities. Groups with no transparancy of membership, transparancy of money sources or accountability to anyone, can use their economic power to subvert free and fair elections. Multi-national corporations and secret super pacs whose loyalty is not to America or the American people, or the interest of the United States, but to their bottom line and to the self interest of their (unknown) constituencies should not have the opportunity to unduly influence elections and decisions that affect all of the citizens of the US. The Supreme Court erred gravely in rendering this decision and the decision should be over-turned.

  • Protect the Nation's Gasoline from Profiteers
The recent enormous profits of oil companies at the same time that gasoline prices paid by consumers are soaring proves that we have a problem. As a nation, access to gasoline for transportation is just as vital as access to electricity and natural gas, Just as the power industry and natural gas providers must follow pricing rules of the Public Utilities Commission to prevent consumers from being gouged, so should the oil industry.

  • Rebuttable Presumption of Equal Custody in Divorce
Federal laws need to level the playing field for spouses in divorce. Men are routinely discriminated against in State laws, receiving "traditional" parenting time that amounts to 5 in 28 days with their child(ren). Fathers are currently forced to litigate back Civil Rights that should be protected Consititutionally under Federal Law. Litigation in divorce is expensive and psychologically damaging for the most vulnerable--our children.

  • Immigration Snafu
My wife was denied her immigrant visa by a young Arab woman who treated her badly, and determined that our marriage is not real. This was based on random questions such as "what is the color of your husband's car. All the preparations were ignored, not even looked at, like all the pictures, my 4 months there over 3 visits. This seems very much an intentional denial not based on the facts at all.
