• Pat Robertson: Apologize for telling sexual abuse victims they can "consent" to what they endured
From at least 1996 to 2012, the Christian Broadcasting Network had a teaching paper on its Website which suggested victims of sexual abuse and molestation could "consent" to what happened to them and "allow (themselves) to be molested"--thus suggesting it is somehow the victims' fault. It also told anyone who suspected child abuse to talk to a minister before doing anything else, even though virtually every state requires those who suspect abuse to report it. The paper was taken down in March 2012, but CBN and its longtime chairman, Pat Robertson, have yet to apologize for it. We're calling for Robertson to issue a full apology for spitting in the face of victims of sexual abuse.

  • Equal Treatment of Controlled Substances
President Obama's administration upheld Marijuana as a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance. Where is the fair treatment for Nicotine in Cigarettes. Reclassify Nicotine as a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance. This would be a balanced treatment since it too meets the criteria.

  • Baby Boomers for Immigration Reform
The Republicans and the Obama Administration have been responsible for the breakup of thousands of families in the US. Because of draconian laws and political expediency, the federal government has put American citizens in the most unthinkable situation: that of losing a spouse through the caprice of government action. Many American citizens in this situation have no choice but to leave their lives in the US behind in order to keep their families together. Many cannot leave and have no recourse but to stay and wait for our politicians to change the laws. As baby boomers of adult children caught up in these tragic circumstances, our lives have been profoundly affected by these government actions, as the people involved are our in-laws, children, and grandchildren. This is a time that we should be preparing for retirement, not helping our children with the expense incurred by this tragic situation. We would simply like for our children to get their lives back and be free to live with their spouses and children here in the US.

  • Make Vermont Label GMO Foods
Vermont is facing a lawsuit threat from Monsanto in regards to a bill that would force genetically engineered food to be appropriately labeled (H-722). The bill has yet to be voted on, but it has the majority of public approval. We are calling on the Vermont Legislature to side with the public and face Monsanto. The people have a right to know what they are eating and where their food comes from. For some, it is an ethical imperative to know how their food was produced as we move toward a sustainable globalized future. We have until the beginning of May to have this bill voted on, at which point the legislative session ends.

  • Protect Women rights to choose
This petition is about the attempts to legislatively make it impossible for the lone abortion clinic in Mississippi to operate. After we voted down the personhood amendment last November the republican lead legislature have found a new way to target abortion and make it "abortion-free". I started this petition, because the people of Mississippi have spoken overwhelmingly against any law that makes it essentially illegal to have abortions in our state.

  • CISPA Replaces PIPA and SOPA
H.R. 3523, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) allows businesses to decide to give away all your personal online information to the government or anybody without a subpoena or even probable cause under the guise of "national security." Basically, an online 'Patriot Act.' This article explains: http://www.examiner.com/progressive-in-portland/cispa-congressional-plan-to-censor-internet-concerns-critics

  • Stop Kill at Will legislation in Iowa!
Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager who was killed while walking home in his hoodie, is dead because someone who felt threatened by him took his life. George Zimmerman, Trayvon's killer, still hasn't even been arrested for the shooting. Why? Because Florida is a Kill at Will state! Astonishingly, Florida law broadens the definition of justifiable homicide by granting people the right to use deadly force if they feel threatened. This extreme expansion of the right to kill, despite being fought by law enforcement officials, has occurred in 24 states. Nearly half of the United States allow killing just because a person "feels" threatened. Right now, the legislature in Iowa is considering following Florida's lead and becoming a Kill at Will state. If enough of their constituents speak out against Kill at Will, it can be stopped. Because of the negative attention the Trayvon Martin tragedy is bringing to these laws, elected officials and the media debating the legislation won't be able to ignore loud public pressure to keep Iowa from becoming a Kill at Will state. These Kill at Will laws make all of us, including children, less safe. They are a special danger to young people of color like Trayvon Martin, who may fall under "suspicion" from armed vigilantes simply by being young, Black, and wearing a hoodie. Please join me in protesting passage of any Kill at Will laws in the beautiful state of Iowa, where people are friendly and kind. Let's not allow ourselves to be ruled by hysteria.

  • Strips Searches for Everyone...?
Recently, our nation's Supreme Court ruled to allow strip searches without reasonable suspicion. A man, on his way to a family gathering, was wrongfully arrested, held in jail for 6 days and strip searched twice. After reviewing the case, the Supreme Court ruled AGAINST Albert Florence, thus reinforcing law enforcement's actions.

  • Liberty University: Sever All Ties with PepsiCo.
The purpose of this petition is to send a message to the administration that we are still committed to doing things the right way by requesting them to sever all ties with PepsiCo, as well as encourage all affiliates of Liberty University to boycott PepsiCo products beginning with their beverages. Liberty University has a 10-year exclusive contract with PepsiCo through 2016. If Liberty University is truly committed to the defense of all life, then we cannot continue to endorse this type of unethical business practice. There is official and evidence-based data that PepsiCo is currently contracted with Synomex, a biotechnology company that uses aborted fetal cells in their taste research and development. PepsiCo has paid $30 million for such research and development and will also pay royalties to Synomex for every product PepsiCo sells using Synomex’s technology. Please refer to flyrice85.wordpress.com for more detailed information and/or contact James Ahn at [email protected] if you have any questions, comments or would like to get involved.

  • Congressman West: Denounce ALEC today!
BREAKING NEWS: Coca Cola has announced its decision to stop supporting the highly-controversial corporate group ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council). ALEC brings corporations and politicians together behind closed doors to discuss so-called "model bills." ALEC's agenda includes: -Pushing the Stand Your Ground law that Trayvon Martin's killer is using as his defense -Promoting Arizona-style immigration laws across the country -Working to disenfranchise African Americans, Latinos, students, the elderly, and the poor Coca Cola has made the right decision in pulling their support from ALEC. Ask Congressman West to do the same.
