  • Reinstatement of Seniors'Homestead Exemption
It now appears as if the State of Colorado has the necessary revenue to reinstate the so-called "Seniors' Homestead Exemption" to give seniors a break on their property taxes (Denver Post, Mar. 27, 2012). Those who qualify as seniors (65 years of age or older) who have lived in their homes for at least ten years, could again have 50% of the first $200,000 of the value of their homes exempt from taxation. The State has revealed that this tax break is affordable. For those who are watching their living expenses increase even as their pensions and savings remain stable, this would be a significant way to allow many to remain in their homes while maintaining a decent, if modest, way of life.

  • Make the Republican Politicans Eat Their Words
Americans stand to lose everything they have worked for, Medicare, Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, etc. Everything listed in the Republicans "Tighten The Budget" Admendment. Don't you think that if we have to tighten our belts, they should too? I'm calling on all Americans to demand that Congress cut their wages, refuse Government Health Insurance, use their own money for travel, set term limits on how long they can serve, to quit taking a free ride off the backs of all Americans.

  • Support African American Advertising and Communications Business
The advertising business has a dismal record of hiring and promoting African Americans. Industry statistics support less then 6% are hired in the industry. Many major companies that have government contract refuse to hire Black owned firms. The industry is made up of mostly small firms that hire people that look like them. The African American owned firms are the only opportunities for minorities to get a start in the industry. The goverment and corporations must choose to make a difference in this area. This is an opportunity to for government to do something about the high unemployement in the Black Community. We are calling on the government to take a stand for African American owned firms by contracting directly with African American owned advertising, graphic design and communications firms.

  • Give teachers their CBR for health care back!
In the state of Massachusetts teachers have lost their rights to negotiate for their health care. Changes are coming that could raise yearly costs. Fees like charging a start up fee per person is going to go into effect, and co-pays are going to go through the roof. We, the supporters of simple rights, are calling on you to sign this and tell Gov. Deval Patrick to give teachers their Collective Bargaining Rights (CBR) back. Stand up and fight for the teachers!

  • Make banks that took TARP money give back equity to homeowners
Banks such as Chase Manhattan which took TARP money from the Federal Government should have to give equity back to individual and family homeowners. Bank of America is now trying to get home owners to become their renters when homes are under water. This is unjust! If you support justice for home owners adversely affected by the Wall Street fiasco, please sign this petition.

  • Save McKenzie Bridge, Oregon
The United States Forest Service has planned a massive logging operation located within the community of McKenzie Bridge, Oregon, along the banks of the McKenzie River. They kept this project secret for two years to avoid interference from the community. Despite the fact that the project is located within a major watershed, involves critical habitat and the destruction of old growth stands of douglas fir, there was no environmental impact statement submitted. The USFS/ USDA instead prepared a wholly biased environmental assessment, which states that there is habitat at stake, including the spotted owl, however it is unlikely to cause the extinction of any species. It is largely based on rule of thumb, generalizations and past experiences unrelated to this location. The USFS considers the project a done deal and is going ahead despite the objections of many in the community. The residents would like this project stopped until an independent environmental impact statement can be prepared and shared with the public, offering adequate protections to habitat, the community and the all important McKensie River basin (from which the city of Eugene draws it's drinking water). • Alpharetta High School: Stamp out Bigotry and Hatred - not the students who are trying to end it!
Reuben Lack, the 18yo student body president at Alpharetta High School, advocated for a resolution that would have made prom more inclusive to gay students. As a result of this, he was stripped of his position as student body president, and is currently being slandered by the administration as well as many other students. Read his lawyer's statement about it here: http://jamesradford.com/2012/03/a-statement-about-the-reuben-lack-case/

  • Stop discrimination of employment
The reason I am starting this petition is to help put a stop to discrimation of those who have been previously convicted of a felony. I was convicted of a class 6 felony in 2008 and since 2009 when I was released I have not been able to find employement. People say that when a person does their time the sentence and punishment is served. Where is the justice for those that made mistakes and are still paying for them. For instance the coviction that I pled to was for attempted aggrivated domestic violence. And since the conviction I have applied to Lowe's Home Improvement on several occasions. All of which I have been told that I am not able to be hired due to my answers on my assessment. How is this possible when the majority of my working life has been in customer service with the highest remarks? It is because of my background and even though my civil right have been restored I am not given fair treatment and I wanted to start this because I am sure that there are others out there that are expierencing the same unfair treatment.
