• Wisconsin Republicans: End Your War on Women
While speaking at a Tea Party rally in Milwaukee, far-right Wisconsin U.S. Senator Ron Johnson stated that women who can't afford contraceptive coverage should just "Google It." Unfortunately, Ron Johnson's view that women who can't afford birth control should just "Google it" is just the latest attack in the GOP war on Wisconsin women: Scott Walker is on record as stating his support for amending our Wisconsin constitution to ban common forms of birth control and outlaw abortion across the board -- even in cases of rape and incest, or if a woman's life is in danger. Rebecca Kleefisch posted on Facebook that she agreed with the statement that "child victims of rape and incest should view their resulting pregnancies as an opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade." Foster Friess, a $104,600 donor to Scott Walker, stated on national television that women who can't afford birth control should just put a "Bayer aspirin between their knees." Right-wing members of the Republican Party are waging a war on women in Wisconsin and all across the country. By signing our letter to Senator Ron Johnson, you'll help us turn the tide and send a clear message to Scott Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch: Women are fired up to elect new leaders who will stand up for families and access to affordable, quality health care and family planning options.

  • Preserving public schools
We need to preserve the public education. It's the cheapest and best way for children to get an education. Vouchers on the other hand, depend on the profit motive to deliver education to our children. Companies and executives are the ones who profit from a private system, while money is drained and diverted from quality teachers and student's needs. Everyone in my family were in the public school system and did fine. My son graduated Rutgers Summa as a material science engineer.Similarly, my wife and I attended the public school system straight through college. We must make public school system stronger and not weaken it with voucher systems. We must demand that our governor end his policies of demeaning public schools and get vouchers and privitized schools out of our education system.

  • Minnesota Legislators: Stop GOP Amendments
Stop Minnesota Republicans' attempts to amend our State Constitution. Their amendments will curtail the right to vote, infringe on the right to be represented effectively by organized labor, the right to marry the person someone loves, and will gridlock the legislature by requiring a supermajority to raise needed revenues.

  • End Voter ID Requirement
It should not be a requirement for someone, who is already registered, to have to get a specific identification card to vote. This is a direct violation of the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s.

  • End pot prohibition to free resources to focus on child porn
Recently Vermont's Attorney General has stated he doesn't have enough personnel free to fully pursue leads on child pornography in the state. Yet considerable law enforcement resources continue to be wasted on the socially-destructive war on those who prefer something milder and healthier than alcohol. Let's solve both problems with sensible new priorities.

  • Reject MA Bill 661 "Stand Your Ground"
Massachusetts Bill 661 is currently being held in the Joint Committee for the Judiciary and should never be released. (http://malegislature.gov/Bills/187/Senate/S00661) Bill 661 allows Massachusetts to become a Stand Your Ground state that protects citizens like George Zimmerman who killed Trayvon Martin in Florida. Massachusetts Law Ch 278, 8A (http://www.malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartIV/TitleII/Chapter278/Section8A) already allows for broad protection within the home. Bill 661 expands this to "any place that one has the right to be" and has no obligation to retreat from or de-escalate violence in a dangerous situation. This is a Shoot First mentality that has no place in our State and it endangers us all. Please educate yourself on the implications of passage of this Bill. Research has shown that states that have adopted similar legislation have seen an increase in justifiable homicides. It is well-known that local and national guns-rights organizations are putting pressure on its members and lawmakers to consider and pass Stand Your Ground laws. (www.iwatchnews.org) Stand Your Ground to keep this legislation from becoming law. Please contact members of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary to urge non-passage through the process that proceeds towards legislation.
