Landlords in the City of Lewiston are facing greater difficulty maintaining quality housing amidst the current economic climate. As a City with the highest poverty rates in two of the most densely populated census tracts, the rental market is unable to respond to increases in operating expenses by spreading costs amongst tenants who have limited ability to pay. Landlords are asking the City of Lewiston to remove the trash collection fees that were formerly included as a benefit of being a tax payer.

There is no fitness center in Telluride that is affordable or comprehensive. If communities like Ouray, Delta and Silverton can provide their citizens with a gym, Telluride should also. We are asking Parks and Recreation to provide a fitness center for everyone to enjoy.

The FAA, in a series of airport improvement projects using local contractors, has unintentionally caused the mining of near-shore lagoon coral reefs as a source of fill; the local EPA has always approved or ignored this practice. For example, in 2008 a large reef was mined by PII (a local company) for the ARFF fire station project (pictures available on Flickr). The US is required to follow a higher environmental road, thanks to Bill Clinton's Executive Order 13089, which specifically requires protection of coral reefs even outside the US. Yet coral mining has again been approved, and may start within months, if local EPA approves it (for a second time) and if the US Embassy here in Majuro approves the local approval.

The PA State Legislature has the opportunity to save lives by adding a tax to non-smoking tobacco products and by increasing monetary support for tobacco cessation and prevention programming. PA is the only state that does not tax non-smoking tobacco products. These changes may prevent youth from becoming tobacco users.
