  • Civic Union Proposal
One of the chief arguments used as an argument against legalizing same sex marriage is that there exists a certain "sanctity" that will be lessened by recognizing same sex marriages as legally binding. I propose that all language used in the public forum regarding the union of two people in the eyes of the state should be called civil unions. This would mean that the term marriage is reserved solely for use by individuals and churches. This would mean that marriage licenses in all states would be civil union licenses and would make no reference to the gender of either member of the union.

  • Finance Campaign Constitutional Amendment
The destruction of our democracy can only be stopped if the majority of us make it clear that we demand a constitutional amendment prohibiting any person or entity from donating ANY money to a candidate's campaign (and that includes a millionaire candidate buying his own election). The recent Supreme Court decision (Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission) has now made corporations “persons” entitled to use their vast amounts of money to influence legislation that serves their needs and not necessarily those of the public. The 99% need to have a greater voice in what our elected officials are legislating and not the 1% who hold the majority of the wealth in this country. Simply passing a law, i.e. the McCain–Feingold Act, has shown that this is clearly not enough when the main provisions of the law can be eviscerated by a Court ruling. We must demand a Constitutional Amendment.

  • 1% Of Defense to Education Petition
That is the premise of this movement which seeks to take 1% of the budgets of various departments to support projects and initiatives targeting areas of society which are lacking including education, high education, social services, mental health, homelessness, etc. The targeted departments should be those which are highly funded and yet can survive with a minimal cut of no more than 1%. These departments should be so funded that %1 or a penny on the dollar shouldn’t cripple or adversely affect them (i.e. defense, foreign aid, entitlements, drug enforcement, etc).

  • FDR's Second Bill of Rights
There are too many issues affecting the lives of the American People to continue with our "patch-up" politics. We don't just need new laws, new debates, and new conversations; we need to rebuild from the core out. Franklin D. Roosevelt, a true American hero and one of the greatest United States Presidents in our great nation's history saw the state of the Union for what it truly is: under attack. He had the foresight and the courage to do what politicians today don't dare to do: he dismissed big business and big money and acted in the best interest of the nation's people to devise a second Bill of Rights to protect our economic rights from becoming corporate property. Now, when we and most of the rest of the world are facing the fight of our lives, the fight for liberty and justice within a global economy, we are more in need of the ratification of President Roosevelt's wisdom than ever.
