• President Obama: Order Justice Department to Investigate Police Brutality against Occupy Protesters
In the history of nonviolent protest in the united states, the federal government has often had to step in to protect the civil rights from the excesses of local police. We are calling on the White House to investigate and determine whether federal laws are being violated by local law enforcement authorities in their brutality against citizens exercising their right to peaceably assemble and protest.

  • Trinity Church: Offer Sanctuary to Occupy Wall Street
After being evicted from Zuccotti Park in a pre-dawn raid, many people from Occupy Wall Street relocated to property owned by Trinity Wall Street Episcopal Church -- a progressive church with a rich history of social activism. But instead of the occupiers finding sanctuary on church property, they were arrested by the New York Police. The Bloomberg administration is clearly determined to put an end to Occupy Wall Street's peaceful witness against economic injustice. It's time for Christians to stand with the 99% -- not merely in words, but in action. Join us in asking Trinity Wall Street to do the right thing and offer sanctuary to Occupy Wall Street. (If you are an Episcopalian, please indicate your parish in the comments, so Trinity can see that many within their own tradition are asking for their support.)

  • Supreme Court Must Upgrade Ethics Rules
Supreme Court justices currently are not subject to the same canons of ethics to which other federal judges must comply. Justices Scalia and Thomas attended and spoke at a Koch Brothers event with Citizens' United on their docket. The two were speakers and guests of honor at a dinner of the Federalist Society on the same day that they considered reviewing the Health Care Reform Act. We're calling on John G. Roberts, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, to adopt the same canons of ethics to which the other Federal judges must adhere. We further ask that Justices Scalia and Thomas recuse themselves from the review of the Health Care reform act after they have demonstrated through their participation in the Federalist Society dinner a disregard for impartiality in this matter.

  • Allow Student Loan Refinancing For All
Americans carry more student loan debt than credit card debt. Federal Loans lock in an interest rate that is currently unchangeable. This petition urges the President to allow borrowers to refinance their student loan interest rate to a lower, more rational rate. Banks are borrowing money at less than 1% interest yet many student loans are locked in at nearly 7.5% Reducing interest rates will allow debtors to repay their borrowed money but at a rate that allows us to actually have a life, rather than working only to repay debt. This is not debt forgiveness, but debt compassion.

  • Governor Abercrombie Do Not Let the AG Sign The Multi State Bank Settlement
Dear AG of Hawaii We need a more comprehensive investigation before the financial institutions at the heart of the crisis are granted broad releases from liability. The Times editorial describes why Eric Schneiderman, Beau Biden and Kamala D. Harris, Attorney General of California, have refused to join the 47 other attorneys general who have agreed to the settlement. The Times editorial stated, The proposed settlement reportedly would prevent the states from pursuing claims against banks relating to fraud or abuse in the origination of loans during the bubble. It would also prevent states from pursuing claims for foreclosure abuses, like improper denial of loan modifications. And it would prevent them from pursuing banks' misconduct in their dealings with the Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems database, or MERS, a land registry system implicated in bubble-era violations of tax, trust and property law. redress -- could be impeded or blocked by the other constraints. Once one avenue of inquiry is closed off, it can be difficult to ascertain what happened along other points in the mortgage chain. In effect, the legal waivers being contemplated would let the banks pay up to sweep wrongdoing under the rug.

  • Make Children Priority One
Our country does not prioritize children (0 - 18) and we are declining because of it. We are destroying the future of our country. We are destroying generations of children by not prioritizing their needs as whole human beings who are the future of our country. Everyday children are socially, emotionally, educationally, and physically beaten down by adults in their life who were beaten down also. When are we going to stop the cycle and help every child in our nation reach their full potential. We talk about it all the time, but that is not where the money and services go. And all the brain research support this. Wake up America!

  • Washington D.C hear our plea, make the election system free from financial influence NOW
I'd like to send a petition to the White House, Senate and House of Representatives to declare that it is time to reform the way they are paid and how they raise capital for campaigning. Not tomorrow, not after a committee is called to order, or a study is done on the idea. The time is now, they can either hear our plea or we will elect and place people in power who are not on the payroll of a corporation or using private wealth for an unfair advantage. I grow tired of the current debate in the halls of government as I can't tell the true politicians from those who are there to make money at the expense of their fellow citizens. We on this petition, as but one voice of its many but important none the less, request that the government of the United States of America make a high priority of changing the way elected officials are paid and how they raise capital for their campaigns. This is our request, will they honor it? Make your voice heard and sign this petition to let the nation know how many of its citizens are tired of a too easily corruptible government being in place. They may ignore us but we won't give up until the system is fixed once and for all. Thanks for your time and courage.

Removal of the electoral college system of presidential selection. People should sign this petition if they want to reduce the size of government, by providing direct election by registered voters, thus eliminating the middle men in the voting process.
