• Metrify for Peace
The modern metric system is easier and more modern than our current system of weights and measures (The English System.) The United States is the only country besides Burma that doesn't use the International System. Metrification will improve our ability to communicate more clearly with the rest of the world. It is necessary to improve our standings in math and science.

  • Greek Letter Recognition In Wise
The Town of Wise has in place an ordinance which restricts the "brandishing" or "showing" Greek letters in/on which may be viewed from outside of the residence/domicile/home. That is to say, that if a house occupied by a member (either current/alumni) of any organization which affiliates itself with Greek lettering...that individual resident/homeowner etc... would not be allowed to place lettering representational of their affiliated organization on their property which could be seen from the outside i.e. someone walking down the street looks at said house and can identify whatever material used which would symbolize "Greek Letters". The purpose of this petition is to illicit the Town of Wise's Zoning/Planning Department in addition the Town Manager of Wise in either one of two actions: One-The removal of the ordinance in question thus allowing residences/homes/domiciles the ability to place Greek letters within the boundaries of their property apart from the interior of the residence/domicile/home. Two-The ordinance in question limits the restriction of the placement of Greek letters within the parameters of the domicile/residence/home. This option would lend itself to a collaborative measure between the Administration of the Town of Wise and it's citizenry to negotiate measures in which Greek lettering could be permitted to be placed on the domicile/residence/home of the property owner.

  • Stop bigoted hate speech
Why should homosexuals, Muslims and other victimized groups be forced to listen to bigoted attacks against them from the far right? Many countries have already made the bold move of criminalizing dangerous hate speech to protect minorities and prevent scapegoating. Sign this petition if you want the USA to be the next nation to make that bold move.

  • Congress's Benefits
We need a constitutional amendment restricting benefits of all Congressional and government employees to those publicly available to all Americans (such as Social Security and Medicare). They should not be able to give themselves better benefits than they give the rest of us.

This is an established movement. But I just want to make sure that you know about it and will do for it whatever you can - something I see as almost limitless. I give you full credit for the election of Barack Obama. What can you do to help the people legalize democracy? Much appreciation, Mavis

  • Provide free water during lunch at Conejo Valley USD.
Per the California State Law, as of July 1 2011 free drinking water is to be provided during lunch time in food service areas to all children in California Public Schools with the mission to increase ‘water consumption and decrease sugar-sweetened beverage consumption as a strategy to support obesity prevention and improved long-term health’ (Calif. Dept of Education).    In order to promote water consumption the California Dept of Ed suggests: 1.    Provide or Plan for Chilled/Filtered Drinking Stations 1. Provide Water Dispensers in the Cafeteria/Food Service Area 2. Maintain School Site Water Fountains As of now the Conejo Valley food services department and district have stated that the water fountains already at schools are sufficient to meet the guidelines of the law.  Since children are not allowed to get up from lunch tables freely to consume water, and there are many children at lunch trying to access water fountains all at once, and many fountains are not located where food is served we concerned CVUSD parents want hydration stations set up in all elementary, middle and high school cafeterias during lunch with enough cold water and cups to service all students.

  • Limit desserts in CVUSD school lunches to one time per week.
As concerned parents of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, we are writing to enlist your support in cultivating a healthier environment for our children. One in four children in the US is obese, and two of every three adults in the US are obese. Obesity is the leading cause of death in America after smoking. Unless measures are taken to reduce obesity, the youth of today may live shorter lives than their parents. For this reason as parents we feel that Conejo Valley USD school lunches should offer desserts (brownies, cupcakes, cookies, etc) one time per week instead of every day. These desserts should also not contain artificial colors or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Fresh fruit, yogurt, rice, pasta salads and other sides can be offered as alternatives the other four days of the school week. Please see the other petitions involving healthy changes for CVUSD: http://www.parentsforhealthyschoollunch.com/sign_the_petitions_.html
