Mr. Polis: Gun Safety Education is EssentialMr. Governor, while you and Congress have passed a red flag gun law, I am afraid this law isn't enough to address needless shootings such as the STEM school shooting. I am outraged this shooting happened because it need not happen and innocent people were injured. My sister and I (both students here in Colorado) have many friends who are afraid to go to school because of the rampant gun violence that keeps gripping our classrooms. Your administration has done great things and I am hopeful you can develop a gun safety education program as a resource for people in our state who own guns/have been impacted by gun violence.12 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Grant Gulevich

Tell Steward Execs: Respect Hillside's Nurses, Patients and CommunityThe for-profit healthcare machine, Steward Healthcare, is up to familiar antics: silence the nurse, forget the patient and make more money. Our nurse’s union began contract negotiations in October 2018 and have been operating on a series of extensions with the hope of reaching a reasonable deal. Instead of a fair union contract, Steward insists on an either/or decision - agree to a loophole that could bust the union or accept unfairly low wages and concessions on healthcare benefits; a coupling of “shut up or earn less” proposals. Our union is our most effective platform to stand up for our patients who need us for our specialized and individualized care. Hillside is the only hospital in the area that rehabilitates amputees, paraplegics and quadriplegics, patients with multiple sclerosis, brain injuries, and Parkinson’s, or those recovering from a stroke. It is a shame Steward wants to force us to decide on patient advocacy or jeopardizing our own economic welfare. Steward’s familiar antics leave us concerned that Hillside will join other local institutions in the graveyard of once owned Steward facilities; a healthcare flip that they later deem as a flop because there were not enough commas after the dollar sign. Our patients cannot afford for us to be another casualty of Ohio’s unregulated healthcare system – one that allows profit-centered healthcare giants, like Steward, to chew up and spit out community-minded hospitals. Join us in telling Steward that our nursing union is the best platform to advocate for our patients. Nurses should not have to choose between their union or unfair wages!281 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Molly Homan

Immigrant Veterans Deserve Better“Men and women willing to wear our uniform shouldn’t be deported by the same nation they risked their lives to defend.” – Senator Tammy Duckworth. This would seem obvious, but many of our veterans are being deported, often for non-violent charges when they turn to marijuana or other drugs to cope with PTSD after serving in combat. The Veterans Visa and Protection Act would prevent further deportations of veterans for non-violent crimes and allow those who have already been deported for non-violent crimes to return to the United States. https://www.duckworth.senate.gov/news/press-releases/one-year-after-trump-administration-deported-illinois-veteran-duckworth-re-introduces-comprehensive-bill-package-to-protect-veterans-and-servicemembers-from-unfair-treatment?fbclid=IwAR2n1nelIOWF0rqMHOrGvgwUT0KOA1bnA-7JET_VjYjJDGM8QDp3BXYhUg4 https://grijalva.house.gov/press-releases/rep-grijalva-reintroduces-veterans-visa-and-protection-act-of-2019/572 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Douglas R Benner

Change A.P.R's uniform policyThe student body feels as if the current uniform policy does not allow us to properly express our true selves. The student body also believes that the current uniform policy is too constricting and does not allow students to have any freedom on their options. At the end of the day, teachers have to lose valuable classroom time in order to deal with uniform violations. The constant loss of time causes students to be distracted during the rest of the class. The change of uniform will make life much easier for students and teachers next year.115 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Deric Fernandez

Petition to end the Jones ActBecause Puerto Rico has no Senator or Congressperson, Congress mouths the word "care," maybe makes a cute heart symbol--then does nothing and goes about their business. If 2500 Texans (G-d forbid) had perished after a hurricane questions would be asked. For the Island, paper towels get thrown. Only US voters can get Congress to react. We all need to write & call.76 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Peter Munsing

Restore Press FreedomI am starting this petition because the Trump Administration revoked White House Press Credentials from most of the reporters representing major news outlets. This is a threat to our democracy. All U.S. citizens are negatively affected by this recent action.231 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Charlie Sussman

Bring back rent control in BostonThere is nowhere in the country where someone working a full-time minimum-wage job could afford to rent a modest two-bedroom apartment, according to an annual report released in 2018 by the National Low-Income Housing Coalition. In Boston, you’d need to earn $ 33.46 an hour. This simple fact is the crux of the current housing crisis in Boston, and the result is a spike in what is known as the shelter poverty phenomenon: the deprivation of non-shelter necessities resulting from the gap between income and housing costs. In 1995 , one year after the elimination of rent control in Boston, the median rent for a 2 bedroom in Boston was 882.00. Today, that same 2-bedroom unit costs 2,194.00. In Roxbury, currently one of the neighborhoods hardest hit by the most recent wave of gentrification, the median cost of housing rose 70% between 2010 and 2015. As a result of the removal of the protection of rent control, longtime residents are forced out, the population becomes more transient and the fabric of the neighborhood is weakened. Lack of decent, affordable housing negatively impacts the health, well being and economic security of the citizens of Boston. Rent control is one solution among many that we need to implement to protect the poor and the working class from the greed of real estate developers.127 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Eileen Ridge

Bring back Mary Bubala!I think this woman was unfairly fired. If a man would have said what she said, nothing would have been done about it. I think it was a biased and unfair decision to fire her. Mary has been in service to Baltimore viewers for 15 years and has never done anything wrong.38 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Wendy J Shores

OUR children NEED Mrs. Michelle ArchieMichelle Archie is very much liked and admired by teachers, students and parents across the Harrisburg City School District. She has an outstanding reputation for having a great relationship and rapport with not only the students of the district but also their parents, colleagues and the community members as well. Mrs. Archie as the children call her, goes above and beyond her required duties as a Harrisburg School District administrator. She does this because she cares deeply about our students. Her reputation is also one of integrity and fairness. For me, this is personal. Mrs. Archie has had a HUGE impact in the lives of not one, not two, but THREE of my children. All of this was while she worked at what is now called Rowland Academy. My oldest son is 20 years old and he has now graduated high school and is in college. While my son attended Rowland, he wasn't perfect. There were several occasions I had to come and talk WITH Mrs. Archie. She didn't talk TO me, but WITH me. We would come up with strategies together. That is when the relationship and the bond was created with not only me but my son as well. He is now a two time state basketball champion and a college sophomore. Fast forward a few years later and now my daughter is at Rowland. My daughter was new to the city and had a really hard time transitioning from a suburban area to a city area. When my daughter got herself into a situation at school, Mrs. Archie took my daughter under her wing, talked with her constantly about self-esteem and having confidence. My daughter is now a Junior with distinguished honors at Sci-Tech Academy. Here we go again with my youngest son. My son was hit by a car and suffered a severe concussion. Changed him a lot. His behaviors begin to change and he began to get in trouble in school. Mrs. Archie made sure that he had a 504 plan created, she guided me on what to do at home with him, she followed up with me regarding him. He is now a Freshman at Dauphin County Tech. I said all that to say this. It takes a village. Mrs. Archie has been fair, consistent and has made a huge impact on the lives of my children. I cannot allow the district to accuse her of being immoral nor can I allow the district to question her morals. OUR community NEEDS Mrs. Archie in these schools. What she is being accused of, is it worth losing a great member of YOUR team who has been there for OUR children for 25 years?1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Starkisha Williams

Join Mother's Day Rally to End Child Detention and Family SeparationOne of the largest encampments of children who have been separated from their families, and are now held indefinitely in detention, is close to my home. I had the opportunity to remind them, across a field, and in their own language that: We Have Not Forgotten Them; That We in America Believe and Work for Human Rights; that they are not alone, because all our hearts are breaking with them. All Americans must stand for our democratic values and governance. Beyond politics this is a matter of Humanity -- there are no taking sides in front of injustice. We must stand together! Tell District Attorney Elton Mathis: Re-Open Sandra Bland's CaseWe will never forget the viral video of Sandra Bland's violent arrest in 2015. Many of us were struck with horror as we witnessed Texas State Trooper Brian Encinia, drag Sandra from her car and threaten to "light her up" because she refused to put out her cigarette. It was an unbelievable moment of unbridled hostility. And the officer who violently assaulted her was only charged with perjury for lying about the circumstances that led to Sandra's arrest--a charge that was later dropped in a deal that the DA never consulted Sandra's family on. This is not enough--rarely are police officers held accountable for their criminal behavior and we won't accept anything but justice for Sandra Bland. Now an uncovered self-recorded video of Sandra's arrest has sparked a new wave of outrage. The cell phone video allows us to visualize just a small part of how she experienced her own arrest. It's crucial information that proves what we already knew: Brian Encinia did way more than lie about Sandra's arrest, he assaulted a woman who posed no threat to him. We don't doubt that Sandra Bland died as a result of the white supremacy that runs rampant in the Waller County Police department. In 2015, Color Of Change members put their money together to hire private investigators in Waller County and they revealed a deeply corrupt bail system that rewarded the district attorney, judges, and sheriff. Elton Mathis, the same DA that blamed Sandra's death on her family's inability to make bail is still in office and we must hold him accountable. We are joining Sandra's family in demanding District Attorney Elton Mathis of Waller County, Texas take criminal charges against Brian Encinia back before the grand jury. Will you join us?33,394 of 35,000 SignaturesCreated by Rashad Robinson
