You may have heard the recent news that Lake Washington High School will most likely not have English electives as a course option for the 2019-2020 school year (Creative Writing, Poetry, Film as Lit, and many more). Creative English classes are important to the student culture at LW since they provide a safe and engaging space for expression. Please help us show the school administration that we have a voice and an opinion in this matter!

Our son Scott is facing three federal felony charges for providing humanitarian aid to two migrants in the southwest borderlands of the United States. We’re asking you to sign this petition demanding that the US Attorney’s office drop all charges against him. He has been charged with two counts of felony harboring and one count of conspiracy for, according to the charging documents, "providing food, water, clean clothes and beds". If convicted, faces up to 20 years in prison. Each year persons fleeing poverty, oppression, and violence in their home countries make the desperate decision to confront Arizona’s western desert, one of the harshest landscapes on earth, in search of a better life. For many, the decision ends in a painful and lonely death in the remote reaches of the Sonoran Desert. No one deserves to die in the desert. No one deserves to go to prison for trying to prevent those deaths. The work of Scott and other humanitarian aid volunteers to alleviate suffering should be upheld as standards of virtue for all of us rather than punished by threat of prison. Help us show the USAO that there is widespread support for humanitarian aid work and that prosecuting our son is both morally wrong and politically unpopular. Scott’s devotion to his humanitarian work consistently inspires us. We first realized the extent of his commitment when we saw – as parents, felt – the pain he suffered upon encountering the bodies of migrants in the desert, and the deep sense of responsibility he feels to commemorate their journeys both as migrants and as human beings. That the USAO would seek to criminalize compassion and respect for human dignity is unconscionable.

We, the people of Priest Lake, have cellular service so inadequate as to render phone calls unreliable from April through October, and virtually unusable data. People have been unable to call 911, which poses a risk to both residents and tourists. We are resolved that this situation needs to be rectified by placing a second cell tower in the area in order to provide bandwidth sufficient to meet the needs of Verizon customers and provide the service we pay for.

This petition has been started to bring attention to the unchecked and criminal behavior experienced first hand from and within the DCFS SYSTEM in Louisville, KY. Below you will find the introduction email sent out to almost 100 news stations & politicians; only to reach deaf ears. Please take up my challenge to change this system tearing innocent families apart! This email and attached documents are being sent out to you in hopes of bringing to light a great travesty being perpetrated on hundreds of thousands of American families from every walk of life. Within these attached documents you will find my own eye witness account of the nightmare a DCFS cabinet member in Louisville, KY escalated to nothing short of HELL. The attached timeline will take you through two very similar incidents; with VERY different outcomes. The first a parent's resolution to a small storm and the second an elevation of said storm to hurricane with the inclusion/intrusion of DCFS. I am reminded of a very similar encounter; to which you will find within the timeline of these attachments. I was led to have the following discussion with my son. His father had yet again not visited him. And my son, through tears, continued to make excuses for his father's behavior and blame me for his father's actions. As my son sat beside me I looked him dead in the eyes making sure that he knew without a doubt I was serious; when I asked him to please stop making excuses for the man that was hurting my child. Because if the roles were reversed and he were not with me; there would be no excuse, there would be nothing, not hell nor hurricane that could keep me from him. 50 Americans are living in the Embassy of Venezuelan in Washington, DC. Members of Code Pink and other fringe groups have been living inside the embassy since April 10 in support of the illegitimate Maduro Regime. As the United States recognized Juan Guaido as interim President of Venezuela on January 23, 2019, The Venezuelan American community in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia has since April 30th gathered in the hundreds outside of the Embassy to protest the trespassing of these groups and has organized to stay vigilant 24 hours resisting further trespassers in what it calls #OperacionLibertadDC.

First, she partnered with human rights abuser Joe Arpaio as Governor of Arizona. Then as Secretary of Homeland Security, she built the deportation machine that Trump is now using to separate families from their children. Now as President of the University of California, she has allowed her negotiators to bargain in bad faith for two years with UC’s largest unions, leading to a series of disruptive strikes. She is continuing rather than reversing the trend of rising gender, income, and racial inequality and privatization at UC. She has overseen an increase in outsourcing of jobs to private interests with links to UC executives and an ongoing attack on working standards. She is sacrificing the world-class education, research, and healthcare at the UC by putting the interest of UC executives and their partners in private industry – some of whom make more than $1 million annually – over those of front-line workers. As a student concerned about child labor in the global supply chain, I’m writing this to urge you to introduce a new bill that would make Cobalt a conflict material within the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based on your support for international humanitarian efforts, I am hoping you will be in support of this and the peace it will bring thousands of people. The Congo supplies over half of the world’s cobalt, which has put pressure on their mines to increase production as global demand has skyrocketed. This has caused them to quickly need more workers, and they have turned to children to fill the gap. There are an estimated 40,000 child laborers working in these mines, accounting for just under half of all cobalt miners. These children work 12 hour days without protection, putting them at risk of asphyxiation or other accidental death, for compensation of only $1-2 per day. Working in these mines not only puts children’s health at risk but also their social growth, as they have no time to interact with other children and have fun. In addition, many kids drop out of school to work full time in the mines and never get a thorough education. This leads to lower paying jobs as adults and ultimately puts them at a disadvantage later in life. Something has to change. Currently, section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act includes gold, tin, and tungsten, but cobalt is noticeably absent. The increased regulation on the listed minerals has had a tremendous positive effect on how these minerals are sourced. Transparency requirements along the global supply chain have helped to audit 75% of mines for these minerals. Furthermore, 79% of tin and tungsten miners in the Congo now work at conflict-free mines that are considered “peaceful”, defined as an absence of child labor, reasonable working conditions, and fair compensation. Inspecting these mines for legality and cooperation with child labor laws have helped to reduce the number of children mining for conflict minerals. The problem is that children have a new industry to turn to: cobalt mining. By adding cobalt to the list of conflict materials, mines would need to be checked for child labor, and companies would be forced to find other sources. Children could escape the dangerous mines and have a chance at a childhood and an education. This law has caused enormous improvements in other mineral’s mines, and it would help children mining for cobalt just as much. I hope you will consider action in Congress that would either introduce new legislature or edit the existing bill to solve this dire problem. The children need our action to free them from their enslavement, and I firmly believe that this legislature is the first step towards them. I am starting this petition because of the fact that I currently have two cousins currently in jail for non-violent marijuana drug offenses. They did not cause any harm to anybody nor sold the product but simply used the product recreationally and are now sitting in a jail cell. This is not moral and makes no sense to spend tax money on people who are non-violent to society.

My sibling is transgender and transphobia is seemingly becoming a trend amongst Trump supporters. I personally care too much about my sibling along with the rights of transgender people to see something like this pass in the supreme court. This is unjust and not moral and in no way represents what America is based off of.

Climate change impacts everyone but South Carolina is extremely vulnerable. In recent years we have had increased flooding, a rising number of dangerous heat days, and our coast is at risking of rising seas. South Carolina should take steps towards a more sustainable future by not investing in fossil fuels and moving towards a 100% renewable economy. We are also asking for South Carolina to educate and train youth on sustainable careers and climate change through a summit, weekend event, or training day. Climate change is a national emergency and we need to take the necessary steps to combat it.

The Supreme Court commissioned a "Special Committee" on Foreclosure procedures in New Jersey. They claimed they wanted to preserve the "right to due process". What a farce. The Committee issued recommendations which did NOT include changes to Rule 4:64-2. The Supreme Court sought Public Comments. ALL Public Comments were against changing the Court Rule, but the NJ Supremes went ahead and changed it, anyway. Please sign my Petition. Homeowners in New Jersey are being deprived of the "right to due process" by the very Court that claims they are trying to protect the "right to due process". The NJ Supremes should have just come right out and said "Proofs needed to Foreclose-NONE. You don't have to prove you have the right to Foreclose in New Jersey. Just declare a default and you're good to go". People all across this land should be OUTRAGED!
