On December 18, the three-member Board of Public Works is scheduled to take a vote on amendments for the controversial $11 billion I-495 Beltway/I-270 widening project. If passed, amendments would allow the state to take properties before environmental review; backtrack on the promise to share revenue for transit; change the project phasing; and expedite the construction schedule.  We all want congestion relief, but the current plan will not provide it. In other communities, high-toll “luxury lanes” are not attractive to wealthy commuters unless standard lanes have significant backups. To reduce congestion, we must focus on moving people, not automobiles, and significantly incorporate viable transit into the project. We also have significant concerns about the nearly 1,500 homes that could be impacted by the combined project. And the project as planned will undo millions of dollars in downcounty stormwater projects and destroy parks and streams. To reduce congestion, we must focus on moving people, not automobiles. For all of these reasons, it will be a terrible mistake if the Board of Public Works (Governor Hogan, Comptroller Franchot and Treasurer Kopp) approves these amendments next week. This project cannot be allowed to go forward without a traffic study showing that it will work, without a fiscal analysis, and without an Environmental Impact Statement.

Currently, the majority of neighborhoods within the town of Brookhaven do not have an option of choosing gas for heating/cooking/cooling our homes due to the lack of pipes laid underground. The cost of both options (gas or oil) is rising, however, the cost to heat/cook/cook in our homes is by far more expensive with oil as opposed to gas. This bill will improve the medical cannabis program for suffering patients across Iowa by: 1. Replacing the 3% THC cap with a purchase limit of 25 grams of THC per 90 days 2. The DNC rules regarding SuperDelegates was changed in August 2018, stating that they will not be allowed to vote in the first round of voting at the Presidential Primary. However, if any candidate fails to reach 50% of the elected Delegates at convention, the SuperDelegates will be allowed to vote in subsequent rounds. With 22 candidates running, it is critical that the DNC set aside their SuperDelegate rule and let Majority Rule.

Another child's life. Gone while in custody of the United States Government. A teenager from Guatemala was being warehoused at one of the Southwest Key facilities — facilities where charges of child abuse have been raised repeatedly over the past year — and became very sick. He was dead a few days later. He had been in United States custody for 10 days. He is the third child to die in federal custody over the last six months. Seven year old Jakelin Caal Maquin died in December. Eight year old Felipe Alonzo-Gomez died a couple of weeks later. No more.

My daughter is a current Pre-k student zoned for Burgess-Peterson Academy Elementary. Currently, only students 1-5 receive Spanish as a "special". Research has shown that the earlier the exposure to a language helps to improve cognitive abilities and overall language retention. Our children should be able to have access to this wealth of knowledge housed at BPA.

This problem has been happening for a long time, and cutting a lot of trees is bad for our environment. I think that they should put a limit to the amount of trees people can cut in an area.

Hundreds of animals have senselessly been euthanized for NO REASON at The San Bernardino Animal Shelter; FIFTY-ONE dogs last month alone!!!! These dogs were not even given a chance- they were not sick, they didn't have aggression issues, they were all healthy, happy dogs when they came into the shelter. This shelter is run by The San Bernardino Police Department, they do NOTHING to adopt dogs out or work with rescues- it is a literal slaughterhouse. In fact, they put the one employee (Jennifer Van Ness) who helped with rescues on administrative leave FOR NO REASON AT ALL. In addition, they allow no beds or blankets, which is why a dog FROZE TO DEATH in her kennel at the San Bernardino Shelter last month. She came into the shelter wearing a pink sweater which was immediately removed so she slowly froze to death- FROZE TO DEATH. The manager of this slaughterhouse, Lt Frank Macomber has a long history of animal abuse and is now responsible for running a shelter and for the death of all these animals. Macomber needs to be fired and never be allowed to work with animals AGAIN. Rescues have offered thousands of dollars in blankets, he has turned them all away. An even bigger part of this story is how Mayor John Valdivia has done NOTHING to remedy the situation. He has received thousands of calls and emails and DOES NOTHING. He is a disgrace to the community and needs to be held accountable for his city's shelter. He has posted LIES on Instagram claiming the shelter is doing a great job and ignores the countless and senseless deaths- mysterious deaths, lack of care, lack of warmth, needless euthanizing (even when there is room at the shelter)- he allows it all, and knows about it all. BOTTOM LINE, WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION- Macomber needs to be removed but this is all at the hands of Mayor John Valdivia who has done NOTHING.
