• Subaru: Please stop advertising on Fox “News”.
I own a Subaru, as do many people here in the Northwest. I would think most Subaru owners do not agree with the types of stories, speculations and fear-mongering that is seen on the Fox network. Where we spend our dollars is just as important as how we vote. Most Subaru owners are extremely loyal, but this is the kind of issue that changes people’s minds. I hope they will change their position, and quickly.

  • U.S. Leaders: time to fully fund Ecosystem Restoration nationwide
This initiative should activate bipartisan support both in Congress and in all 50 states. As the lawsuit Juliana Vs United States is on the cusp of its opening trial, in June 2019, all efforts should be moving forward to provide a livable planet for the 21 plaintiffs, age 11 through 22, and their generation. See https://www.ourchildrenstrust.org for details on this lawsuit that provides a legal underpinning for the green new deal. Leading U.S. climate scientist James Hansen calls for this action as well. It provides a unifying effort worldwide, to draw down carbon out of the atmosphere, putting it back where it belongs - back in the ground. This action would begin the necessary action to begin cooling our stressed planet, and all stressed living forms on it. Clearly, action is still necessary to ensure fossil fuel (including pesticides) does not continue to add to the dangerous levels already in the atmosphere, which have now hit 413 parts per million of atmospheric carbon. World climate scientists agree that getting back to 350 parts per million of atmospheric carbon would stabilize our planet (where we were in 1990), ensuring it is a livable one. U.S. leaders: We need your boldness now on this urgent issue. UPDATE: Oct 7, 2019 was declared HALF EARTH DAY 2019, by the E.O. Wilson Foundation, which is acting on similar efforts that the UN initiative is challenging world governments to act on. Here is the website to see more details of this HALF EARTH effort - https://half-earthproject.org

  • Ice cream trucks in Rotterdam
Ice cream trucks were banned from Rotterdam years ago when a young girl was hit and killed by one. This was a very unfortunate accident however it should not have led to ice cream trucks being banned. They are still allowed in other areas all around the country. This accident could’ve happened anywhere. Therefore, they cannot just ban ice cream trucks in Rotterdam and no where else. A child could also have been hit by a car and killed, it doesn’t have to be an ice cream truck. And you can’t just ban cars from a town everytime someone is hit by one. Parents should also teach their children when they hear the ice cream truck not to run out in the middle of the road. They can simply stand outside the door to their house and the ice cream truck will see them and stop. As previously stated, ice cream trucks still exist in other areas, including ones right outside of Rotterdam. Therefore, we the people of Rotterdam think it’s time we bring ice cream trucks back to our town.

  • Family support
My husband(Gary Hurley 208595)is incarcerated in Tennessee. I haven't been able to visit him in a year because he is 400 miles away from me. This has been devastating to me because my father and other family members recently passed away. To see my husband (of 37 yrs.) would help us both. Other family members also would love to visit with him. Please consider the benefits for families and society as a whole by lessening the distance between the incarcerated and their families whenever possible.

  • Time to end U.S. wars
In order to work toward world cooperation and invest in human needs to solve pressing problems like climate change and humanitarian crises, it's time to commit to ending U.S. wars. Since 2001, the war authorization has been used for military endeavors in dozens of countries, in the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia. After over 17 years of war and trillions of dollars spent, it's time to end the Forever War by repealing the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force and holding the perpetrators of war crimes accountable.

  • Save The Wolves!
The Trump administration recently announced its plan to remove federal Endangered Species Act protections from gray wolves in the lower-48 states. This is a decision based purely on politics – not science. While wolves may be rebounding in the Great Lakes Region, they are not recovered in the Pacific Northwest, and they remain absent from the southern Rocky Mountains. Removing protections nationwide from wolves will cause irreparable harm to the slowly recovering populations in Oregon, Washington, and California; and will effectively prevent the eventual recovery of the species in states like Colorado and Utah. The Western Environmental Law Center is a nonprofit, public-interest environmental law firm and our expert attorneys will use the full power of the law to retain the protections gray wolves need to recover across the American West.

  • Gov. Pritzker: Illinois Wants a Full and Public Review of Child Deaths Where ILDCFS was Involved
As a society, we have a responsibility to protect our children. To do this we pay taxes to ensure safeguards are in place at a state level. Those safeguards are failing and children are dying. Illinois deserves an explanation and our children deserve our advocacy.

  • Tell Mercy Allen Medical Center President: Don’t Take Money Away from Hardworking Nurses Who Care...
The nurses at Mercy Allen Medical Center work around the clock caring for patients each day. Nursing is an emotional and physically demanding profession – the toll the job takes on the average nurse is indescribable, but nurses make that sacrifice because of their unwavering commitment to patient care. Mercy Allen Medical Center has made it clear that this commitment to patients is not to be rewarded. In fact, Mercy Allen moved away from an already low-wage proposal, wanting to instead pay nurses an even lower wage in return for their commitment to the community. The move has the Ohio Nurses Association pointing to the legality of such a move, and therefore the Ohio Nurses Association has filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board against the Medical Center. Paying nurses a fair wage helps keep good nurses at the bedside, caring for the Oberlin community. Nurse turnover is expensive to the medical center, interferes with the care continuum and decreases employee morale. The Medical Center passed a last, best and final offer to the nurses, of which the nurses overwhelmingly voted down. The nurses have also voted to authorize a strike notice if the Medical Center continues to belittle the nurses’ worth. Join us in telling Mercy Allen Medical Center President, Charlotte Wray, that the nurses deserve better. Pass a fair proposal that shows the Medical Center’s appreciation of the nurses’ commitment to patient care. About the ONA Nurses at Mercy Allen Medical Center: Contract negotiations, which affect 30 highly-skilled registered nurses, began February 14th. In an attempt to reach a fair and reasonable contract, the ONA nurses agreed to more negotiation dates and a contract extension from March 31st to April 30, 2019.
