I was startled when I got a message from Meagan Bell, a MoveOn member in North Palm Beach, Florida. She said, "she visited the Homestead child detention center located near Miami last week, and was absolutely horrified by the overcrowding and prison-like conditions that children seeking asylum were living in". As a self sponsored presidential candidate myself, I therefore decided the best thing to do is to join her, call "on all the Democratic candidates for president to personally visit the Homestead Child Detention Center while they are in South Florida this week for the debates". From pictures and briefs made available to me, I was able to make out these are kids fleeing violence and poverty in Central America. They are seeking asylum in the United States. And the most humane thing we can do now is to get these children out of detention, reunite them with their families, then focus on ways to get Donald Trump - with his modern day slavery and gulag mentality, out of office. Please join me, sign this petition and let's get the kids out of detention.

As we eagerly anticipate receiving our first paycheck including hard-earned 3 percent raises, UC Merced officials unveiled plans to raise employee parking fees at the main campus and to institute parking fees at the downtown campus. To add insult to injury, UC Merced administration failed to notify our Union, Teamsters Local 2010, of their intent to raise parking fees and negotiate how this change will affect workers. The planned parking fee increases are exorbitant and do not comply with our Union contracts. We have filed multiple grievances on this issue, but Administration has expressed that they still intend to increase parking rates. Therefore, our Teamsters 2010 representatives have submitted a cease and desist letter demanding that UC Merced stop the parking increases until they meet with our Union. With low wages and increasing fees, university employees are at risk of not being able to afford to come to work. This must end! UCM cannot continue to be a catalyst for poverty. We demand an end to increased parking fees and that UC Merced administration complies with the clerical and skilled trades contracts, which limit the parking rate increases.

We agree with the demands of the WayFair Walkout: -Cease all current and future business with BCFS and other contractors participating in the operation of migrant detention camps at our Southern border (or any other location). BCFS "partners with government agencies, corporations, non-profits, and community leaders to develop programs and service models that combat challenges in health and human services" and has received over $179 million in federal contracts since 2015. -Establish a code of ethics for B2B Sales that empowers Wayfair and its employees to act in accordance with their core values -The additional request that all profits from completed sales be donated to the organization Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES)

After visiting the Homestead Child Detention Center last week, I was horrified by the overcrowding and prison like conditions. The U.S. government is currently holding thousands of child migrants, many of whom have been separated from their families by U.S. immigration officials in Homestead. Most have fled violence and poverty in Central America and are seeking asylum in the United States. Instead of being released to family members or other sponsors, many are spending weeks or months in inhumane detention. And because Homestead is an emergency influx center, children are not protected by agreements that ordinarily ensure licensing and other standards are met. US taxpayers are paying a FOR PROFIT company, Comprehensive Health Services (owned by Caliburn) over $750 per DAY per child. It is estimated that the per DAY cost to taxpayers for detaining the children of Homestead is over $2.4 million. We are imploring the Democratic candidates to go to Homestead and see the detention center for themselves. Every day there are witnesses who hold up signs over the fence in support of the children and tell them they are not alone. Can the candidates for president please join them? We must get these children out of detention and into Homes Instead.

HB0203 creates the "No Representation Without Population Act" to stop the practice of prison gerrymandering. Counting prisoners at their last known address will also help the transition to a productive life for the prisoner. Keeping the integrity of the Census count will keep their home communities accurately represented in the state legislature. Despite having the opportunity to fight bigotry and violence at its recent Annual General Meeting, Mastercard has refused to stop working with far right and hate groups like the League of the South, National Policy Institute, Proud Boys, Stormfront, VDare, Identity Evropa, Occidental Dissent, and Radix Journal. These days starting a white supremacist or hate group is as easy as launching any online business. The tech platforms that have enabled so many of us to open up websites and begin selling products and services allow hate groups and extremists to thrive equally within the same ecosystem. These groups have managed to co-opt social media, ecommerce and fintech platforms to financially support criminal activities, including violence and harassment. From donation platforms to online stores, major tech companies are operating at a level of scale that they do not know who their customers are before they grant them access to Mastercard payments. It’s time for Mastercard to face the fact that until they investigate, the company will not know the scope of abuse taking place in their network.

We do not accept the unethical and despicable treatment of human beings seeking asylum with their families. Family separation and child detention are not solutions. They are atrocities.

This speed limit is tearing the Shores apart! Its time to solve this issue by raising the speed limit to 50mph with a +/- tolerance of 3mph.

ICE is still planning to execute raids to deport children and families. Whether it happens in two weeks (per Trump's threat) or in two months, using hotel rooms as temporary jails is a crucial part of this plan, because ICE cannot legally hold children in its adult detention facilities. Hotels should put people over profits and publicly refuse to work with ICE to execute Trump's disgusting attack on immigrant families. We've researched nine hotel chains that run the low-cost properties most likely to be used by ICE and are calling on each of them to publicly commit that they won't participate in the planned raids on families and kids.
