  • Wrongfully Convicted
My son was wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. There are numerous items of evidence that were left out of the trial that play a vital role in justice being served. My son is in prison while a murderer is still on the streets.

  • Asmodee: Release a Splendor expansion focused on Peach Ring the Fruit Snack Loving Ferret
Asmodee got EVERYONE excited about Peach Ring the Fruit Snack Loving Ferret being an integral part the board game Splendor. They included Peach Ring in all of the game's pre-release promotional material and even included him on the current game box. It is an unforgivable insult to us that Peach Ring actually has no current role in the game whatsoever. We demand that Asmodee satisfies our insatiable craving for Peach Ring by releasing a Splendor expansion focused mainly on him so we finally are able to incorporate him into our games. It's what is owed to us, and we will not stop until our demands are met.

  • Yellowstone Landmarks Should Not Be Named After Men Who Incited Genocide
Native American tribes from the United States and Canada are demanding that famous landmarks in Yellowstone National Park not be used to honor men who supported the "extermination of American Indians." In Yellowstone National Park, Mount Doane is named after a man who led the massacre of nearly 200 Piikani people on a Montana river bank and Hayden Valley was named after a man who called for the "extermination of American Indians." Leaders of the Blackfoot Confederacy and Great Sioux Nation are demanding that Mount Doane and Hayden Valley be renamed to "First Peoples Mountain" and "Buffalo Nations Valley." This fall, the U.S. Board On Geographic Names will decide whether or not to rename these famous landmarks. Please sign our petition and stand with the tribal leaders demanding justice for their people.

  • Tell CPS: Protect Special Ed Students & Teachers!
Parents and teachers across Chicago spoke out when Chicago Public Schools leaders denied special education services to students as a way to save money and cut budgets. Because teachers like Sarah Chambers were willing to blow the whistle when they saw students being harmed, a state investigation found that CPS was violating special ed law. CPS is now required to notify parents if their student doesn’t receive all needed services. Right when the first of these notices should be reaching parents, CPS lawyers are instead preparing for a hearing at the State Board of Education over Sarah, a highly rated and respected special ed teacher. They hope to fire her in retaliation for her advocacy. Rahm's hand-picked Board of Ed is still short staffing our schools. They don’t seem ready to follow the law and I’m worried about the effect it will have on others speaking out if they get away with retaliating against a teacher like Sarah.

  • What's wrong with Kansas
Kansas faces dangers from rising CO2 Say KU Scientists “We can expect more heat, more intense storms and more droughts,” say KU scientists in climate change report Higher temperatures, more intense storms and increased drought will plague Kansas this century because of rising carbon dioxide emissions, according to a study by Kansas University scientists that was released Tuesday. The study details numerous dangers posed by climate change and should serve as a warning and prompt new policies that reduce CO2 emissions, the scientists said. The study by Feddema and KU’s Nathaniel Brunsell, also a geography professor, was done for the Salina-based Land Institute’s Climate and Energy Project. By 2100, if greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase as projected, temperatures in Kansas will rise an average of 2 degrees to 4 degrees, the study said. Southwest Kansas could see an increase of 8 degrees. By 2060, winter temperatures will stay mostly above freezing. That means more insects, diseases, and the need for farmers to increase the use of costly pesticides, the scientists concluded. Higher summertime temperatures will also hurt crops and livestock and increase the need for irrigation. Climate change will also cause more extreme weather patterns, including intense rain and flooding, but because of higher temperatures, soil moisture will decrease, and that means more intense drought. “What hurts Kansas also hurts the nation,” the report said. “Climate change will increase stress on America’s breadbasket, risking our food security.” An earlier study by the National Council of State Legislatures estimated that climate change could cost Kansas $1 billion per year. The report recommends that Kansas embrace renewable energy, focusing on wind, biomass and solar. Not only will this help the environment but it will also play into Kansas’ economic hand, the report said.

  • The officer who killed Botham Jean must be FIRED and charged with murder.
Amber Guyger, a white female officer, killed Botham Shem Jean in his own apartment in Dallas and her story isn't adding up. Apparently, she thought she had entered her own apartment when she killed him. But so many questions remain unanswered: How do you mistake someone else's apartment for your own? Was she drunk or on drugs? How did she get into the apartment? Did she know Botham personally? And making it even more unbelievable, the officer's story keeps changing. At first, she said that the door to Botham's apartment was locked. Now she's telling investigators that she yelled at Botham to show his hands after she walked into HIS apartment. However, the attorney representing Botham's family has received witness accounts from neighbors saying that they heard "knocking down the hallway followed by a woman's voice that they believe to be officer Guyger saying, 'Let me in. Let me in.'" So many questions remain unanswered and Amber Guyger is only getting more time to re-work her story. We need answers and transparency now.  When police kill Black people they almost always get away with it and are protected under the "blue code of silence." And this is no different. Any other person, especially if they were Black, would have been arrested immediately and charged with home invasion and murder. But the Dallas Police Department gave Guyger THREE days to craft her story before she was arrested or even publicly identified. She was released immediately after her arrest on manslaughter charges. She's free. And she's still on Dallas Police Department payroll. Dallas District Attorney, Faith Johnson, is in charge of this case and has the power to make the final decision on the charges that Amber will face for killing Botham. In a press statement, she alluded to the inadequacy of manslaughter charges and said, "The grand jury will decide if the charges should be different. Believe me, we will make sure justice is done in this case." So we need to turn the pressure up on DA Johnson and make sure she keeps her promise by ensuring Amber Guyger is charged with murder and that the Dallas Police Department gets Amber Guyger off the force.

  • Emergency Response and Preparedness Money Should Not Be Used to Detain Families
Documents recently obtained by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) revealed that the Trump Administration moved $10 million from FEMA, the agency tasked with protecting us from and preparing us for disasters like hurricanes, to Trump and Jeff Sessions’ detention and deportation efforts. The purpose of FEMA is to reduce the loss of life and property in emergency situation. How FEMA spends its money is often a matter of life and death. This is especially true during hurricane season — and especially true right now, as Hurricane Florence bears down on the East Coast. Overall, $169 million has been taken from the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, the U.S. Coast Guard, the TSA, and others so that ICE has millions of dollars more to carry out an extremist agenda of tearing apart families, detaining children, and instilling fear and trauma on those who seek the American Dream. Using funds from FEMA and other agencies for cruel political pet projects like family detention and deportation is not only inhumane, it’s dangerous. Tell the Trump Administration to stop separating families and give this money back!
