It's Time To Break Up Facebook's MonopolyMost of us use Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. They’re important ways for us to communicate and connect with each other. But Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg have amassed a scary amount of power. Facebook unilaterally decides the news that billions of people around the world see every day. It buys up or bankrupts potential competitors to protect its monopoly, killing innovation and choice. It tracks us almost everywhere we go on the web and, through our smartphones, even where we go in the real world. It uses this intimate data hoard to figure out how to addict us and our children to its services. And then Facebook serves up everything about us to its true customers -- virtually anyone willing to pay for the ability to convince us to buy, do, or believe something. And it is spending millions on corporate lobbyists, academics, and think tanks to ensure no one gets in their way. Just this week, a whistleblower revealed what many of us have known: They Facebook executives prioritize profit over public good—whether the devastating results support genocides, lead to depression among teenagers, induce violence against people of color, spread disinformation about COVID-19, or incite attacks against our democracy. And on Monday, when Facebook's service was interrupted for 5 hours, it also took down Instagram and WhatsApp, which is a major network of communication in many developing nations—showing once again how the concentration of power in one corporation can have truly crippling impact on communities and the economy. Enough. The five members of the Federal Trade Commission, which is the part of our government tasked with overseeing Facebook, can make Facebook safe for our democracy by breaking it up, giving us the freedom to communicate across networks, and protecting our privacy. Congress can pursue investigations to expose the extent of Facebook's unchecked power and pass legislation to limit its power and protect our privacy. And the Department of Justice must pursue every avenue to reduce the concentration of power Facebook holds and abuses. Together, we will make sure that they do.5,843 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Miller

Anti-Lynching legislationAfter the opening of The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, I was made more aware of how often lynchings still take place. I was baffled. How can someone be opposed to anti-lynching!? After making calls and sending emails, I have yet to get a response from my senators or representatives. The people want answers and solutions.61 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jason C Green

Title X and Planned ParenthoodI am a college student at College of the Canyons and the reason I am sending this petition to you is that I, as a citizen of the United States am concerned about the constitutionality of this act and am worried about the ramifications this act would have upon peoples ability to have a choice in how they live their lives. Below are the signatures of fellow students of mine that agree with me.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alexander

Constituents of Chicago aldermen want hearings about lead in our water.70% of Chicago households have lead in their drinking water. There is no requirement for children to be tested for lead in their blood even though it creates a lifetime of mental and emotional damage. And out of 1200 public water fountains in Chicago parks, 750 have been cited with unsafe amounts of lead. The public needs to find out what problems there may be with our water, and the first step is City Council holding open hearings.120 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Maggie O'Keefe

Mannington District FairI think if we have the fair like others in our state, where you pay one price and everything except the food and souvenirs are included, it would be a lot better on us citizens and the board would make more money. Also, get rid of this fake music and having the same one every other year and get back good country like years ago. Also, have one day for the rock fans out there. But please stop the fake. With the prices of admission and having to pay for everything else and the fake boring entertainment, our fair has gone way downhill just in the last 10 years. Take a stand; help the community and make things better.773 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Julie Leasure

Members of Congress must take the #NoNRAMoney pledge! The mass shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas was the 22nd school shooting of the year. [1] Again, we are reeling from news stories and images of dead, injured and terrified children who look too much like our own, of loved ones consumed by unbearable grief, and of another community broken by gun violence. There is one major obstacle in the way of stemming our country's gun violence epidemic and preventing such tragedies from happening again: The influence of the NRA and gun industry PACS. That influence is playing a major role driving our government's massive failure to even attempt to reduce gun violence. Politicians who continue to accept campaign contributions from the NRA and gun industry PACs implicitly support an all-types-of-guns-everywhere-for-everyone agenda, which history shows us points in only one direction: More gun violence. In the U.S. Congress alone, more than half of incumbents have gotten money and organizational help from the NRA, many with financial relationships with the NRA that date back years. Heading into the 2018 midterms, gun rights groups, including the NRA, are already far outspending gun safety groups by 40 to 1. [2] As of February, they had made nearly $600,000 in direct contributions and independent expenditures on behalf of congressional candidates as compared to the $14,000 from gun safety groups. [3] Even as our children are dying, Congress hasn't yet passed complete background checks for all gun purchases. [4] We still allow the open and relatively easy sale of military-style assault weapons with high capacity magazines, like the AR-15 that was used in the Florida mass shooting and many other massacres.[5] Bump stocks that make a gun into an automatic weapon remain widely available. [6] These are all big problems. By accepting NRA money, politicians are nothing less than complicit in the more than 100,000 shooting deaths and injuries Americans suffer each and every year.[7] We are sick and tired of fearing for the safety of our children. We're sick and tired of elected leaders influenced by the NRA, who do nothing to stem the tide of gun violence in our homes, in our schools, in our streets and in our communities. It’s long past time to draw a bright line in the sand and find out who stands with us, and who stands against us. Here's the plan: By taking the #NoNRAMoney pledge, elected leaders prove they prioritize the interests of children and families and not the gun lobby. Once they take the pledge, their names will be added to the public list at NoNRAMoney.org so moms, dads and everyone who cares about the safety of our children know exactly where they stand. Department of Interior: Reject the brutal hunting and trapping of bears and wolves in AlaskaThe U.S. Department of Interior has proposed overturning a ban put into place by President Obama that rightly blocked egregious and cruel methods of killing wildlife on National Park Service lands known as preserves. Among the unethical and offensive methods of wildlife killing that the Department of Interior has proposed be allowed are: The use of donuts, bacon, and other “baits” to attract bears to be shot; The hunting of bears with dogs; Killing of wolves and their pups in their dens; Using blindingly bright spotlights to shoot mother black bears and cubs hibernating in their dens. These methods of killing wildlife are antithetical to “fair chase” hunting and have no place on National Park Service lands. National Park Service Preserves in the remainder of the United States prohibit these methods and there is no rational purpose for allowing them here. We will pass along your comments as part of the 60 day comment period to the National Park Service on Docket ID: NPS-2018-0005 // Regulation Identifier Number (RIN) 1024-AE38, and will also follow up to encourage you to directly comment to ensure your voice is heard.39,684 of 40,000 SignaturesCreated by Endangered Species Coalition

Allow Uber and Lyft to drop off and pick up at Meadows Field AirportUber, Lyft, and Meadows Field Airport (BFL) are currently in negotiations with Kern County, California, to reach a contract with the county which will allow rideshares to drop off and pick up passengers curbside/door front at the airport. Currently, passengers requiring service must be dropped off near the property line, the closest one about a quarter mile away, or, drivers have to shut their equipment down early and sneak in as though dropping off a "friend." The driver's penalty if caught, is a $1000 ticket and deactivation (fired). Passengers with disabilities, women traveling alone, and passengers with luggage, have found it especially difficult to walk to the main entrance from the allowable drop-off points (which are not built for pedestrians, not even any sidewalks, and are often busy with traffic), in the early morning hours. Also, not every Uber or Lyft driver is willing to risk the penalty if they get caught, and this often results in a passenger having to cancel that ride and try again looking for a driver who will go, and this often makes them late for their flight. Bakersfield sprawls out, and it often takes a driver 20-30 minutes just to arrive. But the only two taxi companies who are allowed to service BFL, do not have enough cars to keep up with the demand in the early morning hours. No other taxis, no buses, and no rideshare vehicles are currently authorized. The distant vicinity of the airport to the rest of Bakersfield, makes walking impossible. This petition is to show public support to the county, in favor of reaching an agreement with at least one of the rideshare companies, soon. Bakersfield is growing very quickly in general. BFL is adding flights and building more runways, and the need to drop off passengers at the door is growing every day, especially for disabled passengers. During the day there are also plenty of people trying to access the hangars, rental car companies and other venues located within airport property. We drivers want to give our passengers the service they deserve, safely, to and from this airport. Many of our passengers have said they would be willing to pay a fee to get the curbside service, similar to LAX. The airport is hoping to have a contract in place sometime this summer. Uber and Lyft drivers have created this petition in hopes that it will help speed the process along, by the show of public support. If you live anywhere in the world and you have been affected by the lack of transportation services to or from Meadows Field Airport (BFL) in Bakersfield, California, or if you have had a driver who had to sneak you in or out, please sign this petition. Thank you.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michelle Lyon

Governor Scott, Federal Highway Administrator, Mayor Weinberger: Stop the Dangerous, Wasteful, ...Every Burlington resident gets hurt in the unsafe, dangerous wasteful $43 million design. This petition follows two years of grassroots efforts by the Pine Street Coalition and concerned residents. Public comment ended in 2006 with the design done when no Complete Streets Law existed, no best practices of today including roundabouts and cycle track. The neighborhood changed rapidly but the design did not!118 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Tony Redington
