  • Improve Stratford School Lunches
I have started this petition because I am a student of the Stratford Public Schools and all my 13 years of living in Stratford I have never once enjoyed the lunches and felt like I was consuming something worth paying for. And there has to be a change in the food. The Stratford Board of Education's policy for the lunches are that they must provide nutritionally balanced and attractive lunches available to all students with sufficient time allowed for eating, and what I and most of my student body are not receiving.

  • Allow Emergency Insulin Refills in GA
I am a Type 1 Diabetic, so I know firsthand how important insulin is, because without it I would die. Access to insulin is critical, but the limitations on refills have resulted in hospitalization and even death of individuals with Type 1 Diabetes.

  • Don't Eliminate the Diversity Specialist
One of the budget options on the table with the Central York School Board will be voted on Monday is eliminating the diversity specialist. This will essentially cut the only staff dedicated to advocating for students and families in issues of bias. If you are in the district please call and email board members, and sign this petition to let them know this eliminating this vital service is not an option for our students and families.

  • Truckee Town Council: Reject the Grocery Outlet Project
On May 22nd the Truckee Town Council will decide the appeal for whether or not Grocery Outlet can build a new store across Donner Pass Road from Safeway. Our community has demonstrated repeatedly in the last year that sustainability is a primary concern. This project is a step backward for town sustainability. It is redundant given our current options of Safeway, Savemart, and New Moon, not to mention the approved Raley’s and Railyard grocery stores. Nearby residents are legitimately concerned that their once sleepy residential streets will be used as an alternate access route. Furthermore, the project jeopardizes access to an under-served part of town and congests an already crowded thoroughfare. New projects should make the Town of Truckee more livable, not less.

  • AT&T and Novartis: Disclose Your Agreements with Trump Attorney Michael Cohen
AT&T and the giant pharmaceutical corporation Novartis have admitted paying more than $1 million to the shell company controlled by Trump attorney and “fixer” Michael Cohen. The payments went to the same shell company Cohen used to make hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. The best-case story for the companies is that they were incredibly stupid and willing to enter into a sleazy deal that failed. The worst-case scenarios raise questions about whether the funds sent to the shell company were outright bribes. There's only one way to find out: They must disclose their legal agreements so we can know what services they hoped to obtain from Cohen's operation, and what services were in fact provided.

  • Permanently Protect Chaco Canyon
U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke recently halted an oil and gas lease sale near Chaco Canyon in order to further review the potential impacts from oil and gas drilling. Drilling in this area would destroy a sacred place that holds incredible importance to Navajo residents living in the area. It also has the potential to contaminate the air, water, and land that the surrounding community relies on, putting their health and well-being at risk. We need to keep the pressure on Secretary Zinke to permanently protect Chaco Canyon from oil and gas drilling. Please sign and share this petition to stand with us.

  • Stop Unjust Deportation of Luis Enrique Gonzalez-Ortiz
My Husband, Luis Enrique Gonzalez-Ortiz has been in the country for 12 years. A role-model resident, self-employed creator of jobs, neighborhood revitalizer, and positive contributor to the community - and not a criminal - Enrique must be permitted to stay in the U.S. With an approved marriage to U.S. Citizen, Harlon J. Wilson, and more than a decade of working hard, paying income taxes, and contributing to his community, we should be permitted the necessary time to complete our application for the green card and waiver. With an application to renew our "Stay" denied and an ICE-requested travel itinerary to return to the dangers of El Salvador, extreme hardship would be caused both to me as the U.S. Citizen spouse as well as to my spouse, Enrique who would become the target of gang recruitment. Thankfully, the courts have recently agreed to hear our case although immigration judge's hands are tied with the recent unilaterally policy shifts of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. We need an Administrative Closure or Continuance until our green card is received. Sessions recent mandates of immigration judges make our case all the more concerning as we remain caught in limbo. As gay males with a same-sex marriage, we both would be in grave danger if returned to El Salvador, a nation that does not currently protect discrimination against gays nor recognize gay marriage. If U.S. immigration deports Enrique, we will stay together. It is likely I as a white American male would be the target of hate, discrimination, violence, extortion, and possibly death if forced to leave this country to be with my husband in his native homeland of El Salvador. Our full story is available at: http://deportinglove.com. Please review the details to learn of how U.S. immigration officials got it all wrong in this case. Enrique was seeking relief from the dangers of his land but did not know and adequately understand the communication at the border. While in processing, border officers refused to retrieve his Indiana-based Uncle's U.S. postal address from the pocket of the jacket that officials had locked away. Thus, it is unclear where a 2006 Notice to Appear was sent. Without receipt of the notice, he was unaware of a court date and did not appear to a 2006 hearing. A deportation was ordered at that time. We did not discover the order until our 2014 marriage and subsequent filing for legalization. Please consider hearing our story as we work towards changing laws. Immigration must be reformed to be more human-centered including amnesty for those already living in and contributing to the country. Please Stop the Deportation of Luis Enrique Gonzalez Ortiz. Please use every means, including the creation of a "Personal Bill," injunction, or every other possible option to remove Enrique's unjust deportation order. Please help us Stop the Deportation of my husband. Learn More at: http://www.deportinglove.com/2018/05/in-news-local-station-shares-our-story.html

  • Stop the DOJ from erasing LGBTQ teens from the National Crime Victimization Survey
The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics has requested a revision to the National Crime Victimization Survey information collection that raises the minimum age at which respondents will be administered questions on their sexual orientation and gender identity. Per the requested change, the minimum age for these questions will be raised from 16 to 18 due to concerns about the "potential sensitivity" of these questions for young teens. Join Northwestern University's Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health (ISGMH) faculty and staff in explaining why the requested change in procedure would be extremely detrimental to the health and safety of sexual and gender minority (SGM) youth. ISGMH has conducted numerous peer-reviewed studies on this topic, and there is no evidence that teens are uncomfortable answering questions about their sexual orientation or gender identity - in fact, they reported being more comfortable doing so than posting their pictures on social media or going to the eye doctor. There is mounting evidence that SGM youth are at grave risk for violence and victimization, yet they are barely represented in research. This void in research means that every opportunity to collect data is crucially needed in order to understand their experiences. In eliminating questions that assess SGM status among adolescents under 18, the DOJ is rendering SGM adolescent victims of crime nearly invisible, which in turn diminishes efforts to identify and provide targeted resources for these youth. View ISGMH's complete letter here: https://isgmh.northwestern.edu/2018/05/08/isgmh-submits-formal-response-to-proposed-changes-to-the-national-crime-victimization-survey/ UPDATE: ISGMH delivered 176 petition signatures to Jennifer Truman on May 11. We encourage you to continue signing this petition and speaking out against the DOJ's proposed changes to the National Crime Victimization Survey.
