Hey Google: Don't displace working familiesGoogle wants to buy public land to build a new 20,000 employee mega-campus in downtown San Jose. Let's make sure the tech giant doesn't worsen inequality and displace the diverse communities that make San Jose great. We’re calling on Google to ensure our families can thrive as the company grows: - Partner with us to fight displacement, gentrification and homelessness - Ensure family-supporting jobs and a voice at work for local workers in construction and operations - Support local schools to promote education and career opportunities for all children - Broaden access to transit and mitigate traffic impacts - Provide community oversight of community benefits We need members of the public to sign our petition demanding accountability from Google so it knows the whole world is watching. It’s time to set a new direction for equitable tech growth. Sign the petition.226 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Silicon Valley Rising

No more junk mail!Almost all of the mail we receive is junk mail sent from marketers and mass mailings. This is a complete waste of energy and resources and we need to put an end to it. This was never what the Postal Service was intended for.10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Meghan Miller

Fossil Fuel Free Investment Option for Oregon SavesClimate change is the most important issue of our time. We have to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions substantially. Divesting from fossil fuels is a critical tool in this effort. Oregon Saves is a tremendous opportunity for workers without employer-sponsored retirement programs to save for retirement. Oregon Saves impacts about 100,000 employers. We must have a fossil fuel-free investment option for those workers so their retirement funds aren’t working against the future of our planet. Please sign and share this petition to help give Oregon workers the opportunity for a retirement investment that complements our climate goals.84 of 100 SignaturesCreated by James Barber

Don't let Trump rig the 2020 Census! We deserve a fair, accurate Census in 2020 -- but the Trump administration is trying to rig it for political gain. By law, the Census must count everyone who lives within the borders of our country, regardless of their citizenship status. But Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s decision to include a question on citizenship threatens that constitutional requirement and politicizes this process. Plus, it'll make the 2020 Census undercount communities of color and others who feel intimidated by Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric -- by discouraging them from participating at all. And since we use Census data to draw legislative districts, it’ll amplify the harm of gerrymandering -- keeping fair representation in government out of reach for too many of us. An accurate Census is essential in the redrawing of our congressional and legislative districts and budgeting decisions that impact our schools, hospitals, roads, and veterans. The Trump administration’s decision threatens the accuracy of data we use as nation to make essential decisions about our children’s future. There’s a clear political motive here -- Donald Trump was fundraising off the prospect of a citizenship question just last week. Systematically undercounting our nation’s Latino population and other communities of color would tilt the balance of power towards Republicans for the next decade. This is just the latest attempt by the Trump administration to intimidate, threaten, and silence people of color -- and it shouldn’t happen in 21st century America. We must speak out now to ensure an accurate 2020 Census, without a politically motivated question on citizenship that will suppress legitimate responses. Send your message now.14,947 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Keshia Morris, Common Cause

Don't Give Trump a Blank Check for Endless WarDonald Trump just illegally bombed Syria, can’t wait to scrap the Iran deal, and is building more “usable” nukes. And he is literally building a war cabinet. Congress should be taking urgent steps to restrict the president’s war-making ability. Instead, Sens. Bob Corker and Tim Kaine’s proposed new Authorization for the Use of Military Force, or AUMF, would give Trump a blank check for worldwide, endless war. Tell the Senate: Vote no on the Corker-Kaine AUMF.236 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Do Not Hurt Derita!Dear City Council members and City Staff. We are reaching out regarding several proposed affordable housing projects that are seeking City Council approval as well as Housing Trust Funds. Specifically, these are the three projects that would be clustered in Derita, the Nevin Rd Apartments, Sugar Creek Greene, and Mineral Springs, which total to 208 units serving residents making between 30%-60% of the area median income. These are slated for an area less than one mile radius from our center at Mallard Creek and Sugar Creek Rds. We fear that clustering these projects in this already affordable neighborhood would not serve the city’s interest as a whole and certainly not the interest of the neighborhood. While Charlotte at large has an affordable housing problem, a drive through Derita or searching through listings will show you that Derita does not. The area is consistently one of the most affordable areas of the city. A meal at Maria’s Grill, a neighborhood staple, shows you a diverse community that lives and works together, in what could be a model for other areas. Residents and local community and business leaders have been working very hard to advocate for investments and improvements in Derita, battling negative perceptions and frankly, the reality of being overlooked for decades. Derita and Mineral Springs, with their proximity to University City has the opportunity to be recognized as prosperous and desirable community once again. At that time, affordable housing may indeed be warranted as people are drawn to the area and prices rise. The free market will reshape Derita – hopefully for the better. It is our belief that subsidizing what could be negative influences on the community that deter future development and redevelopments would be a mistake. The heavy industrial uses to the south and negative influences down the Sugar Creek corridor (primarily clustered at the I-85 interchange) contribute to the low land prices in this area. This has also been worsened by the massively delayed University City Connector and Graham Street Extension / Mallard Creek re-alignment. This project is still incomplete, though the neighborhood business association and Derita Statesville Road Community Organization, seeing the negative business effects, has been vocal in working with NC-DOT on seeing progress. Thank you for reading this and hearing our opinion. We trust that city staff and city council members will hear our concerns and consider other ways to disperse affordable housing throughout Charlotte.445 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Derita Statesville Road Community Organization

Homes for Homeless VetsWe owe our armed forces members and veterans so much more than what any one of us could ever put into words or by a Trump parade..., especially when so many have and continue to do the lifting for us. Let's take the $30-$50 million taxpayers dollars estimated to be the cost of Trump's military parade... which in the words of Madeline Albright "is a Soviet-style military parade"...and build homes for homeless vets and pay off vets' mortgages.50 of 100 SignaturesCreated by alice hoffman
