I am sick and tired of corporate sponsorship of the NRA. My son is starting Kindergarten this fall, and I refuse to see him leave school in a body bag. Xcel's HQ are in Minneapolis, the city I call home. I am NOT ok with their alliance with the NRA.

In the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward Country, Florida., students who survived the attack have bravely stood up to demand action for safe schools and safe communities. But now, right-wing blogs are pushing wild conspiracy theories about the students who survived, claiming they are plants, are actors, or are being manipulated by politicians. I know these students. I have worked with these students. These courageous young people survived a horror beyond what any person should have to face, and now they stand with moral courage and strength to call us all to action. It is outrageous enough that outlets like the Gateway Pundit are spreading these lies and driving attacks on these students. But it is even more outrageous that an outlet that peddles lies and conspiracy theories holds a White House press credential and the authority that carries. By giving the Gateway Pundit press credentials, the White House is validating the site and these attacks. President Trump and this administration must make it clear that these attacks are unacceptable by pulling the Gateway Pundit’s credentials and permanently banning the site and its publishers from the White House. These students deserve our praise and our support. Their advocacy in the face of horror and violence is what makes America great. Instead, the Gateway Pundit is driving vicious personal attacks by peddling conspiracy theories. The White House must show that there are consequences for this kind of behavior. I am starting this petition as a student who is genuinely scared to go to school every day. With the regular school shootings that occur in the United States, I feel as though schools should be doing everything in their power to protect their students, starting with a separate resource officer for the high school.

I am disturbed by the response of the NRA leadership in prioritizing political gains and profit over people's lives. By these actions the NRA is demonstrating that they are not eligible to continue as a tax exempt organization.

REI doesn't sell guns like some outdoors companies. And they have a policy banning guns from their stores. There are lots of reasons why I feel good about shopping at REI, and these definitely help! But a lot of companies that REI carries are owned by a parent company called Vista Outdoor, which makes most of its money from selling guns and ammunition. When REI sells a Blackburn bike light or a Giro helmet or a Camelback water bottle, they're supporting a gun company. I'm a triathlete and I do a lot of my shopping for cycling and outdoor gear at REI. And as a co-op member/owner, I think of REI as an ethical place to shop. But by doing business with a gun company that is a major supporter of the NRA, they are helping make the country less safe. The NRA has controlled gun policy for too long and helped make it legal to buy assault weapons. But right now, there's major momentum for sensible gun laws, fueled by companies and banks dropping their relationships with gun merchants. If we get REI to drop Vista Outdoor, we can help speed that momentum. That's why I'm calling on REI CEO Jerry Stritzke to stand up for gun safety and end its relationship with Vista Outdoors. As the dairy industry’s profits plummet, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand plans to send millions of dollars in federal funding to failing dairy farms with her newly introduced Dairy Premium Refund Act. This industry subsidy initiative has arisen after previous industry insurance programs have failed. Dairy, however, is a cruel and unsustainable industry, which is not only abusive to animals, but is also unhealthy for both humans and the planet. The financial decline of the dairy industry is evidence that we should not support or fund it with our tax dollars. Rather, it is indicative that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the unhealthy and abusive practices inherent to dairy products and its production. If Senator Gillibrand respects taxpayers and wishes to help dairy farmers thrive and generate a sustainable economic model, she should encourage them to ditch dairy and produce plant-based products. Sign and let our Senator know that we do not want our tax money wasted on an exploitative and dying industry!

I was horrified to read on Facebook - and verified through Snopes -that the NRA is registered as a tax-exempt organization. This is galling in the light of the millions it gives to make sure that our gun laws are weak and ineffective. At this time of #Neveragain it's time to end this.

We’ve got to focus on solutions that work! Every time a tragedy such as Parkland occurs, we debate online, then forget about it, fail to take action, and it happens all over again! Our kids fear that a routine fire drill could result in another school shooting! We are asking Governor Holcomb as well as the entire Indiana Senate to step up and protect our kids so that they can focus on their education instead of fearing a possible gunman in their school! The number of School Shootings continue to be on the rise yet very little has been done to keep our children safe! Secure Our Schools ! Increase funding in the Secured School Safety Program to address specific school safety needs within each school district. This includes school hardening measures like metal detectors, bullet-proof glass, steel doors, and upgraded locks. Establish funding to require access to dedicated mental health counselors to provide direct counseling services to students at every school. These counselors cannot serve dual roles, like teaching or academic advising. Every student must have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a mental health professional, and receive ongoing counseling as needed. Require law enforcement officers in every school. Require that each officer have mandatory active shooter training as outlined by the Department of Homeland Security.
