This proposed subdivision brings with it many concerns for Madison County including: -Sporadic and disorganized growth of our county lands -Possible ground and river water contamination -Disruption of the indigenous wildlife -An excess of empty, available lots -Excessive traffic and destruction of county roads

General Dynamics -- the parent company of Bath Iron Works -- is again asking the state of Maine for a tax rebate (with the initial request = $60 million over 20 years). At a time of numerous competing needs for limited tax revenue, an incredibly profitable company (~$3 billion in profits annually; $9.4 billion spent buying its own stocks back over the past 3 years; CEO Phebe Novakovic made $21 million in 2016) does not need "assistance". Further, General Dynamic is employing mafioso-type threats, related to contracts and jobs, to hold the state of Maine hostage to their demands for these tax cuts; we are especially offended by such behavior. We join with countless people across the state and dozens of organizations who say enough is enough with this particularly obscene form of corporate welfare. Please oppose L.D. 1781 in any form. I am starting this petition for the sake of student safety. School security is okay. It is not good at all. Security needs to be improved on many levels. More money needs to be provided so that security can be upped in any way possible.

I’m an art teacher in an elementary school. It’s not okay that our schools are no longer a safe place to be. We need Congress to act now and allow the research to be done so we can address this problem.

Our team proposes a prototype of a new bill to protect the people living in California from being tricked by the government into purchasing a house in these fire hazard zones and to enforce the law regarding campsite-national park fires caused by humans. This bill will also state that any project developed in fire hazard areas should be revised and approved by the California Department of Forestry and Fire protection. The California Department of Forestry and Fire protection agency is responsible for fire protection in state responsibility areas of California totaling 31 million acres, as well as the administration of the states private and public forests. If this organization were to approve the project being developed in a fire hazard zone, then the houses shall be built with concrete as well as with fire-resistant windows to prevent the spread of fires. The houses should also be built 8 feet apart to prevent fires from spreading amongst each other. Now, if anyone is interested in purchasing a house that has already been built in a fire hazard zone, then the realtor must let the buyer know about the dangers. As we know, human-caused fires can be due to many reasons such as campfires left unattended, the burning of debris, negligently discarded cigarettes and intentional acts of arson. That’s why we propose to enforce the law regarding campsites like we stated before. To start a fire, you need a permit but even with a permit, many fires have accidentally spread. That’s why anyone staying at a campsite or planning to start a campfire should always show their permit at the campground/parks entrance, as well as filling out sign-in and sign-out sheets, a time log, and stating the number of people staying at the campsite. These campgrounds and National Parks should also have 24/7 surveillance and security. The only downside to these solutions is that to introduce a bill or even an idea regarding law enforcement, you must be a member of Congress or at least know someone holding this position. That’s why we’ve already contacted California’s Senator Dianne Feinstein and have emailed her personally about our solution. Were willing to turn to social media, posters, and websites to spread the word about these solutions that could potentially save California from future unwanted fatalities due to wildfires. We plan to grab the attention of congressman and prove to them that our ideas can help California and even inspire other states to propose similar bills.

1 in 5 adults in the U.S. is living with a disability. Thursday, the House signed a bill called the H.R. 620, the inaptly named “ADA Education And Reform Act Of 2017,” that would weaken the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a critical source of rights for people with disabilities to architectural access in public accommodations—that is, businesses such as stores, restaurants, hotels, etc. H.R. 620: Removes any incentive for voluntary compliance. Rewards non-compliance by allowing businesses generous additional timelines, even though the ADA’s very reasonable requirements are already over 25 years old! The ADA is already carefully crafted to take the needs of business into account. Pretends that money damages requested from businesses are part of the ADA. Actually, this part of the ADA doesn’t even allow money damages, so changing the Federal ADA will not affect any state law money damage provisions. Ignores the extensive, free educational resources already available today to any business on how to comply with the ADA. Ignores the effective & extensive methods already available to courts and state bar associations to deal with a very few frivolous lawsuits or unscrupulous attorneys. We should use those existing legal mechanisms when needed, rather than deny the civil rights established by the ADA that aid people with disabilities every day. Look behind the media myths: The vast majority of ADA attorneys and plaintiffs are seeking solutions to fix real denials of access. But the business community has pushed the media to portray “a few bad apples” as a landslide. A good example of what might happen if this is signed into law: I get a job offer from a company that I find has a supposed "handicapped stall", but it only fits a manual chair. I can't use the restroom at all while I'm at work. A good example of how it may affect one living with a disability is this: I can go and complain that my power chair won't fit and ask them to make a change to the restroom. They don't have to do anything now but wait until I sue them. Then they have 60 days to show they are planning an accessible restroom stall. Then they have another 120 days to show they are making progress towards changing this architectural barrier. All the while, if I want to work there, I cannot get in the stall to pee! There are countless examples I could come up with as to how this bill would not help but harm the quality of life for those living with diverse types of disabilities. This bill is asking us to jump off a cliff and scream " Lord help me"

For decades, La Pulguita on Mission Street between 14th/15th has been a part of Mission culture. More than a thousand neighbors frequent the market on any given weekend day to find low cost  gifts, household items, crafts, clothing and snacks.  Currently, a small group of neighbors is attempting to shut down the market stating that the vendors do not belong on Mission Street. A new pilot is being proposed to move La Pulguita to Julian Avenue between 14th/15th, accommodating 54 vendor stalls with display tables, monitors from Arriba Juntos, and the same hours and rules followed by the vendors of the Arriba Juntos market.  Vendors would pay a lower, subsidized fee, so that vendors of all income levels can participate. ________________ Por decadas La Pulguita ha sido parte de la cultura de la Misión. Más de mil vecinos frecuentan el mercado en cualquier día de fin de semana para encontrar regalos, artículos para el hogar, artesanías, ropa y bocadillos a bajo costo. Se está proponiendo un nuevo programa para trasladar La Pulguita a la avenida Julian entre las calles 14 y 15, acomodando 54 puestos de vendedores con mesas de exhibición, monitores de Arriba Juntos, con las mismas horas y reglas seguidas por los vendedores del mercado de Arriba Juntos.
