• Reduction of sentence for first time violent offender
If an individual's criminal history does not denote recidivism, and a reasonable period of incapacitation will effectively produce desistance, then lighter sentencing or the cessation of it should be implemented upon review.

  • Stop Toxic Rock - Montclair's Pollution Problem
Paint contains toxic chemicals including Volatile Organic Compounds such as toluene and benzene; metals like lead, silver, mercury, and cadmium; binders and solvents like methylene chloride which affect the ecosystem of beautiful Sausal Creek and the San Francisco Bay. Just 1 gallon of paint can contaminate 1,000,000 gallons of water. The Rock in Marj Saunders Park at 5801 at Ascot Drive in Oakland has been painted continuously since the 1950s, allowing as much as 50 gallons of paint per year to enter our watershed negatively affecting our ecosystem and health. Not only is this an environmental problem, it's ugly and it's illegal. The City should enforce its own laws and protect our ecosystem and public health. I am a 6th-grade student at Bentley School and I live near the rock. Signs actually encourage this behavior! I don't think people should be harming the environment, including our fish and wildlife, on purpose. We should be setting a better example for kids like me and not celebrating pollution. Painting the rock should be stopped, and the area should be restored to its natural beauty and protected from further pollution.

  • Paul F. Doyon Memorial School
My uncle Paul F. Doyon was killed in Vietnam; he and my family were honored by the town with a school memorialized in his name. With immediate members of his family still living in Ipswich, it would break my heart to see his name removed when they build a new school.

  • WV Senate: Pass 5% Pay Raise for Teachers
Our teachers deserve a bigger raise than what the WV Senate is offering. West Virginia teachers are one of the lowest paId in the nation. Our children's education is more important than politics.

  • Gender equality for men in Family Court.
Obtaining a Bachelors level education and climbing the ranks of employment for twenty years within New York City service had not prepared me for the battle legally to raise my son appropriately for the last six years due to his biological mother choosing to not be a custodial parent. Family courts referees, magistrates and judges need to discontinue their prejudices against men.

  • Branham Walkout
The walkout is a call to Congress to "pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship," according to Women's March Youth EMPOWER organizers. The National School Walkout at 10 a.m. March 14 will last 17 minutes to honor the 17 students and staff members killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Valentine’s Day. This is a national movement. We have the right to protest. This is CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE. We want to create change. You can too. Join us in the walkout. Details: The walkout will be PEACEFUL. This means students will leave classrooms promptly at 10 am SILENTLY as to not disrupt the rest of the classroom. Then, students will proceed to the QUAD to stand in unity for 17 minutes to honor the lives that were lost. This will allow for a safe, nondisruptive, place to congregate and stand together. After this, we will return to class and continue with the rest of the school day. Your rights as students walking out: You will be given an unexcused absence upon leaving for more than 10 minutes; however, you have a right to freedom of speech and the school CANNOT reprimand you further for your exercise of civil disobedience/protest. (One unexcused absence does not affect you unless you were to get 4 more and then you will be put on social probation.) If you would like to advocate for this issue further please join the Facebook page for San Jose March for Our Lives which will be held on March 24.

  • Expand Student-to-Service Student Loan Repayment Programs
Most students leave college in crippling debt with no work experience. Meanwhile, Betsy DeVos, Paul Ryan, and Trump appear to be doing their level best to dismantle any programs that have been historically helpful. Programs such as Teach America and the HRSA Student Loan Repayment Program provide students with a way to pay back a major portion of their loans by working for schools or agencies that work with underserved populations. This provides students with work experience, eases their debt, helps overworked agencies, and ultimately strengthens the infrastructure of the country. This petition asks Congress and the Department of Education to expand existing Student-to-service programs and provide incentives for the development of new ones. The goal of these programs is to help community agencies with employee retention, strengthen aid to underserved populations, and help new graduates get the work experience and debt relief they need.

  • End Misclassification of Undergraduate Student-Workers at UC-Berkeley!
My name is Quinn Tran and I'm an undergraduate major in Computer Science at UC-Berkeley. I started this petition because of the way I've been unfairly treated by the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology and the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. First I was misclassified by the Department as a low-paid "Course Coordinator" when I was, in fact, doing Teaching Assistant duties, and when I raised this fact through a union grievance, the University retaliated against me by taking away many of my duties, excluding me from staff meetings, and discouraging contact with the IEOR department to resolve the issue. Retaliation is never okay and UC-Berkeley has a responsibility to ensure its undergraduate student-workers are correctly classified. Please sign on to support me. Thank you for your solidarity.

  • Fix Green Card Backlog For High Skilled Immigrants/Save H4ead
This issue has personally affected my family. Please read the story in the newspaper link below to see how much pain my family is silently suffering while taking care of the sick and infirm with the empathy that they deserve. H4EAD has personally helped me to work with more patients who are lacking access to care due to physician shortages in the USA. Also, I am able to diversify in my work and teach medical students from the Florida State University Medical School as Clinical Assistant Professor. If I have to go back to H1B and wait in line again for a green card, which is tremendously backlogged, it will put restrictions on my ability to help patients and continue training future doctors. https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/2018/03/01/local-doctor-fears-job-loss-face-potential-trump-rule-reversal/337375002/

Decriminalizing and legalizing the consumption and cultivation of Marijuana by pointing out that The F.D.A. has already removed cannabis from its classed scheduling system, hence defying the systems definition of "Toxic" " Harmful" and "Physically addictive". These terms are used to describe dangerous drugs, mostly Narcotics, that qualify them for classification under the "Controlled Substances Act". By declaration of disassociation, this petition is to remove the classification of marijuana from the Class 1 scheduled list of "Narcotics" FM, and redefined as a "Clinical Therapeutic Commodity", regulated, taxed, and punished similarly to Alcohol or Tobacco.

  • Demand the NRA fund shooting-related mental health treatment, education, and reseaerch.
Gun violence affects every person either directly or indirectly in the United States. Mental health services are sorely needed but inadequately funded. Private and public funding is needed to address the challenges gun-related mental health issues cause. As a major player in the gun debate, pressure must be exerted on the NRA for funds to address these needs!
