• The CDC must study America's gun violence epidemic
Parkland. Virginia Tech. Sandy Hook. Columbine. Santa Fe, TX. Virginia Beach. Gilroy Garlic Festival. El Paso. Too many people have died as a result of the ever-growing gun violence epidemic in the United States. As a father of two children who are in public school, I am terrified that my child could be next. Our government should be treating it like a public health crisis, yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not been given the necessary resources to study the unique question of why so many mass shootings are happening in our nation. Donald Trump refused to acknowledge that those killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are victims of gun violence. When he was sworn into office, he quickly reversed a rule which banned gun purchases by the mentally ill. I believe this is a systemic issue that requires a top-down solution. A study by the CDC should identify the underlying causes and recommend comprehensive solutions, which Congress should use as a basis for creating legislation to solve the root causes of this national crisis. Tell Donald Trump and his Republican party to direct the CDC to study America's gun violence epidemic.

  • Rep Mike Rogers: end NRA's chokehold on Congress
We have to stop our elected officials from taking money from the NRA! We need them to work for us, "The People", not for the powerful gun lobbyists. #REJECTTHENRA The National Rifle Association has a financial chokehold on much of Congress. It’s one of the main reasons why, in the wake of mass shootings such as the ones in Parkland, FL, Sutherland Springs, TX, Las Vegas, Orlando, San Bernardino, and Sandy Hook, we remain unable to pass commonsense gun laws. In the wake of the Las Vegas tragedy, two representatives–Representatives Tim Ryan (Ohio) and Tim Walz (Minnesota)–have donated previous NRA contributions to gun violence protection groups. Now, MoveOn members across the country are petitioning their fellow lawmakers to join them.

  • NRA BLOOD MONEY
Truth is that our government cares nothing about the fear, pain, and suffering inflicted on citizens by their policies. They only care about The money, power, and protection they acquire as a politician. Their thoughts and prayers are worthless. Their actions speak louder than Words. #NoExcuses

  • No one needs a Fracked Gas/Oil Power Plant in Burriville
Solar & Wind power has been hugh in neighboring Massachusetts & just getting a foot hold in Rhode Island. Burrilliville already has a power plant & has already had a well contaminated by Mobil Oil. We don't need a Fracked gas (piped in) with Oil back up (trucked in) built on & next to conservation land to provide other states (not Rhode Island) power. It has been shown that it is completly unessasary & if they feel it is that important there are plenty of closed & abandonded Power Plant locations in New Engalnd that could & should be cleaned up and re-used!

  • #whocares?
Time for the American people to show who cares! Unless we the people tell congress that we care, they will not act on making America a safer place for the next generation.

  • Pledge to vote against politicians who will not support gun control.
I am no longer willing to sit and wait for the next mass killing to come to my community. The large majority of Americans support common-sense gun control, but we are being held hostage by a tiny minority of highly vocal members of the NRA, a group representing no more than 7 percent of the adult population - many of whom actually also support gun control. We can only counter the power of the NRA through our voices and our votes. I propose a state-by-state drive to gather signatures of registered voters who pledge to vote against any politician of any party who will not vocally support the kind of measures that will begin to eliminate the easy availability of guns which fuels the current crisis of killing in our country. I propose to keep the focus local - it is harder for elected officials to dismiss the numbers if they are presented with a pledge from voters only from their own state who make it plain whom they will and will not support. The state-by-state results will then also speak for themselves from a national perspective more clearly and with greater impact. If this petition shows strong support among MoveOn members, I would like to work with others to move the larger project forward on a state-by-state basis.

  • Politicians: Stop Taking Money from the NRA
I am a teacher and practice "lockdown" drills now on what to do in the event of a school shooting. I should not have to make my students imagine a deranged gunman hunting them through the hallways of their place of learning and community. Every time a tragedy such as Parkland occurs, we wring our hands, debate online, then forget about it, fail to take action, and it happens all over again while too many politicians are lining their pockets with tainted money from an evil organization that cares more about profits from gun and ammunition sales than it does about the lives of innocent men, women, and children. After the Sandy Hook massacre of first graders and their teachers, more than 400 people have been shot in more than 200 school shootings. This doesn't even count churches, concerts, and other public spaces where people who have had too easy access to weapons specifically designed to kill people en masse have used them. Politicians who take NRA money are complicit in gun violence. It's time that all politicians reject the NRA.

This is the 18th school shooting of the year. This is only the 7th week of 2018. How many more children and staff have to die before this is taken seriously. This can happen to any of us and our families. Action must be taken now!

  • No more military-style assault weapons and high-cap magazines!
I write this through waves of tears. Florida is my home, Floridians are my people. This morning, my heart is again burning with pain and anger over a mass shooting that has devastated families and an entire community in my state. This time, it was at a high school. A HIGH SCHOOL. As a mother, the assault on the sanctity of school safety shakes me to my core. An armed 19-year-old former student went to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School yesterday afternoon and shot to death 17 people, wounding 14 more, five of them critically.[1] His weapon? An AR-15. Every fiber of my being is screaming that no civilian should have access to military-style assault rifles and high-capacity ammunition! The AR-15, a military-style assault rifle, was used in the Newtown, Orlando, and Las Vegas shootings, to name just a few. It is the weapon of choice for mass murderers and has no business being for sale in America. Right now, there is legislation ready to be passed in Congress that would get military-style weapons and high-capacity ammunition off our streets. No matter what the Parkland shooter’s affiliations, hatreds, mental health, or background, his access to a weapon that was designed to kill large numbers of people quickly was why 31 people were slaughtered or maimed yesterday. Change must occur -- it MUST occur -- before another community suffers the grief of gun violence. Congress has the power to take action to reduce gun violence and they still haven’t. Congress's cowardly inaction is intolerable. Enough is enough.
