  • Sign the petition: Families and communities are being ripped apart by ICE
The Trump administration has ramped up its cruel and dangerous deportation agenda—giving more power to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to terrorize communities and families. ICE agents are stalking schools, churches, and even detaining spouses of U.S. citizens as they apply for green cards. And ICE has recently targeted leaders working to secure right for undocumented Americans, with several organizers arrested in recent days. Just recently: *In Maryland, two high school students, Lizandro and Diego Claros, were deported. Their community, their coaches, their classmates, and their family are absolutely devastated. *In Kansas, Syed Jamal—a chemistry professor who has been in the US for more than 30 years—was detained for deportation by ICE for visa infringements that were at the sole discretion of individual agents. His family and community in Kansas rallied behind him and he earned global media attention. He was recently granted a stay and will be returned, but he is just one example of Donald Trump's ICE ramping up deportations of pretty much anyone they want to. *Michigan man Jorge Garcia—who had lived in the U.S. for 30 years since he was 10 years old, cooperated with the government, paid taxes, and had no criminal record—was deported on Martin Luther King Day and forced to leave behind his wife and two children.  * In Connecticut, Joel Colindres—a homeowner and taxpayer who lived in New Fairfield, Connecticut with his 3-year-old daughter, 6-year-old son, and wife Samantha—was deported to Guatemala on January 31, 2018. Joel complied with every ICE order.  * In New Jersey, Harry Pangemanan—an Indonesian immigrant who had just been given a civic award for leading crews that rebuilt more than 200 homes since Hurricane Sandy—has been forced to take sanctuary in a church after ICE agents came to his home.  * In New York, immigrant rights leader Ravi Ragbir was arrested at a routine check-in with immigration officials—and religious leaders and local elected officials were arrested trying to block the vehicle taking him away. Since then, a judge has ordered him released. But he is only one of many immigrant leaders recently targeted.  * Also in New York, members of the clergy have said ICE agents have repeatedly come into their congregations and stopped worshippers from entering and exiting, undermining a tradition older than the United States itself of respecting houses of worship as sanctuaries.  * In Washington, D.C., a member of Congress from Arizona called on U.S. Capitol police to arrest any undocumented Americans attending the State of the Union address, who were there at the invitation of other members of Congress to ensure immigrants are not forced back into the shadows by the Trump administration.  And these are just a few examples. As ICE becomes more emboldened and given extra powers by the Trump administration, it will take all of us—from all walks of life—to stand up and demand ICE stop tearing apart families.

  • Make Federal Elections a National Holiday
We feel that it is important to increase voter participation. Those who work long hours or have jobs that do not allow them time off do not have the opportunity to vote. Voting is a fundamental right in our democratic society. Democrats have proposed House Resolution 1 on the floor of Congress. This resolution will expand transparency and accessibility in elections. This resolution also suggests making Election Day a national holiday for all Americans in order to increase voter turnout across the country, as folks would be able to take time off from work to fulfill their civic duty. Mitch McConnell has stated that this is a desperate attempt by Democrats to power grab, but the only reason McConnell is saying this is because he is scared of what it will mean for Republicans if more Americans are able to vote. The agenda of the Republican party has been to disenfranchise as many Americans as possible in the voting process, and we have to fight back against these attacks on our democracy. Let's pass HR 1 and make federal elections a national holiday.

  • Demand March For Science move their events to another weekend
I'm a local organizer with Tax March, and MfS has actively created conflict with our progressive organization by co-opting tax weekend and telling their local organizers not to work with Tax March organizers because we are working against the Trump Administration. Tax March is held on the one highly symbolic weekend of the year, whereas MfS is simply moving their event to a different weekend this year. Tax March has been active year round with the annual tax marches, #NotOnePenny and #RepealTheTrumpTax campaigns. We have been constantly advocating for social justice through a fairer tax code, and tax weekend is our biggest mobilization event of the year. I want MfS to respect our weekend, and either go back to their original weekend or choose another weekend that is not in conflict with a major progressive event around the country. I'm starting this petition as an individual community organizer who has organized and participated in dozens of local events and who marched in the 2017 MfS in my community.

  • End The Killing Of Honey Bees
As a Beekeeper for many years, I have rescued many colonies before they were about to be killed. Unfortunately, there are many that have been gassed or sprayed. Honey Bees are often mistaken for yellow jackets. I have had pest control companies supposedly mistake them for yellow jackets as well. Maybe that is an easy excuse for charging their $500-$700 fee. The Pest Control Companies leave all the contaminated comb and honey in the wall or ceiling. When the next colony swarms in, they already have problems. Many Homeowners come home and see a harmless football size swarm and spray them. Yes, this makes the bees angry. DONT EVER SPRAY A SWARM! Call a beekeeper and we will come free of charge. With all the protected wildlife out there I am outraged that the most important pollinators are not. Please help me in my quest to make it Illegal and more difficult to kill them. At the least, let's get a law that requires Identification before spraying. You can send a pic of a bee to any Beekeeper and they will identify the species for free!! • No more stealing from the poor to give to the rich
I am starting this petition because we need to quit cutting CHIP, Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, and all the other things that benefit the poor, elderly, children, and disabled. The rich don't need cuts. The businesses don't make new jobs. The poor just live on the street, get hungry, and die. The rich don't need a second home and a new car. Those less fortunate need basics.

  • Parole Support for Matthew Ward
Ok Im going to be real with you all. My man Matthew Ward has done 8 years so far on a drug charge, marijuana actually. A non violent crime, mind you, on a drug which is legal or soon to be legal in a ton of states. Now dont get me wrong some time or rehab would have been more reasonable at least then he could have a chance and learn. What will locking him up for 11 years do for him beside teach him how to be a real criminal, not to mention the excessive sentencing. His projected release date isnt until September of 2020. He has gone up for parole every year with no such luck. We just went up at the end of February. They denied his parole for his past...they didn't see any of the hard work he did before the hearing. 14 months no trouble as of December...and he would still be on a streak if it wasnt for the cop that was harassing him. Every time he even looked her way, even if she is speaking to him, she would try and charge him. Many saw this and every time the charges were dropped. Well right before he left the last prison she made sure she went in for the charge again...because he wouldn't get shipped to where he was supposed to and he couldn't fight it because he was then at a different prison where no one knew what had happened. The assistant warden at his new prison was trying to have the book thrown at him...They brought up his affiliation with a gang. I totally get where they have a problem with this....(however most people do while in there for safety. He explains to the parole board that, that is not the case anymore and that he graduated from the step down program, got his GED and he is really trying to do everything to change and be a good person, he just wants to get the chance at freedom and prove to them that this isnt how he wants his life to be. He was basically a kid when he went in. I dont know if this petition will even make it anywhere but I have to try. Please let him back into society. He has so much support especially from his mama and myself.

  • Humanitarian Protection for Puerto Rico
Getting humanitarian crisis aid and protection of human rights into Puerto Rico is needed immediately, as FEMA is leaving the island very soon. Food, water supply, and aid distribution will be cut off. This is a human rights violation and it’s a humanitarian issue. We need to request the protection of the citizens of Puerto Rico. They are Americans. Mass genocide and erasing their culture is also a crime. I am Puerto Rican, this island is my second home, our roots are all there. My father Teddy Torres’ legacy as a foremost guitarist and creator of a seminal genre of music needs preserving for our children and grandchildren; he is part of the island’s diaspora. He was a veteran hiding in a Korean jungle for 3 days under a pile of dead bodies, waiting for rescue. In the Army, he served two Korean tours. He was also a part of the island’s musical and cultural history, a native of Caguas. I need this part of our lineage preserved. It is essential to me, my family, as are our customs, culture, and way of life. They are our greatest treasures. We want a free, healthy, thriving Puerto Rico restored. Help me save Puerto Rico.

  • Remove Superintendent Guerrero
The superintendent's short-sighted decisions regarding destroying a special education schools location and giving it to richer gifted students show his utter lack of respect for the students, parents, and community as a whole. We ask that all stand against this inequitable decision and support the unsupported students that can’t speak for themselves.
