United States border patrol agents routinely vandalise containers of water and other supplies left in the Arizona desert for migrants, condemning people to die of thirst in baking temperatures, according to two humanitarian groups. In a report published on Wednesday, the Tucson-based groups said the agents committed the alleged sabotage with impunity in an attempt to deter and punish people who illegally cross from Mexico. Volunteers found water gallons vandalised 415 times, on average twice a week, in an 800 sq mile patch of Sonoran desert south-west of Tucson, from March 2012 to December 2015, the report said. The damage affected 3,586 gallons. The report came amid renewed rancour in Washington over Donald Trump’s desire to build a border wall and his alleged racism towards non-white immigrants. Congress is scrambling to reach a deal on immigration and border security before federal funding expires on Friday, raising the spectre of a government shutdown. **UPDATE: The "Department of Homeland Security" has changed Nelly's deportation date to February 28th. After informing Nelly on February 9th that she had been granted a stay- which would have allowed her to have her case heard in court, the "Department of Homeland Security" reversed it's decision and 4 days later gave a new deportation day. The Department of Homeland Security is at it again. Nelly Cumbicos has never had a chance to have her case heard by Immigration. Nelly and her family just want her to have her day in court. Nelly’s story, like so many immigrant stories, is part of what makes America resilient and strong. She fled Ecuador in 2000 under death threats and was captured and kidnapped by bandits, who then had an automobile accident with a car full of immigrants in the US. ICE sent Nelly to join her family in Connecticut with a promise to be in touch with her. Nelly had no more contact with ICE until 2015 when she applied for citizenship. In 2018, Nelly was given a deportation date. Nelly is not a criminal. She’s our neighbor. She’s our friend. She is a kind and proud mother of a 15-year-old honor student. And Nelly is absolutely no threat to national security. According to her friends, Nelly warms your heart with her smile and charisma. Her love is endless for her neighbors, friends, and family. Nelly is the first one to volunteer for cleaning duties at her church and provides food for Sunday service to nourish the members of her community. A natural gas power plant has been proposed for a Brownfield site in Birdsboro, PA. The plant, to be operated by Birdsboro Power LLC, will be served by a proposed natural gas pipeline, and connect to the grid via a new 230 kV transmission line. Permits are pending for some of the structures associated with the power plant, but the power plant site itself has largely escaped scrutiny, despite being used as a steel foundry for decades including serving as a military tank assembly operation for some of that time. The site is known to be contaminated with PCBs and asbestos. Radioactive materials, including cesium and uranium, are known to have been used on the site in the past. During a remediation effort currently underway, buried canisters of chlorine gas were uncovered. Numerous buried items have been uncovered during remediation, but the community was not been informed. Little information on the condition of the site has been made public in the years since the site operated as a foundry. In November 2017, when buried chlorine gas canisters were found, one was punctured by a worker who had to be hospitalized. In the event of a small chlorine spill, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommends isolation and initial protective action distances of 100 feet in all directions with subsequent protection of anyone downwind for 0.2 mi (during the day). Yet people living 500 feet from the site where the proposed power plant will be built were not informed. Five days after the release of chlorine gas, Birdsboro Power sued the federal government for the cost of the “significant remaining contamination” on the site. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued the power plant’s air quality permit long before the chemical release in November and had just concluded the public comment period on the remaining permits for the power plant, gas pipeline, and electric transmission line. The public couldn’t comment on information it didn’t have. Toward the end of informing the public, we are calling on state legislators representing the affected communities and Governor Wolf to require Birdsboro Power to make public the Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental site assessments completed in 2016. The public must be given the opportunity to provide informed comment. We also ask them to require the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection re-open comment periods on all state pending permits and certificates required for this project to allow an informed public to weigh in.

The current municipal code allowing dogs off-leash at the local park is overly restrictive. People are not able to enjoy their public park with their dog due to the limited times, and the park is basically empty in the time dogs are not allowed.

My petition is to stop the removal of roadside memorials. Don't take this last remaining piece of our lost loved ones

Both Senators Heinrich and Udall have been outstanding supporters of our wild public lands, but have been disturbingly quiet on this issue (they have both supported getting the additional training squadron to Holloman AFB, but now this squadron needs a place to do their training). The Gila Wilderness and Forest is a place for quiet solitude, not for training F16s at 500 feet elevation.

So national elections accurately reflect the will of the people.

As we enter the third week of the 2018 legislative session, we need to move key legislative leaders to throw their support behind redistricting reform.
