I want our Mercy girls to be able to replenish their bodies throughout the school day. We should not be punished for one person's mistake. The bottles could be monitored, making sure that everyone is only carrying around water.

The new priest had only been at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lewistown, Montana for four days when he discovered that a gay couple in the congregation had married last year. He gave them an ultimatum: Either divorce and renounce their marriage, he told Paul Huff and Tom Wotjowick, or the two lifelong Catholics would be banned from church ministries and from receiving communion. Paul and Tom have been in a committed relationship for 30 years. Devoted Catholics, they play music at service and sing in the choir, and they never publicized their marriage. Already, as many as 40 of their fellow congregants have spoken out or quit attending mass in protest. So far the local bishop is backing the parish priest, even though he acknowledges that Paul and Tom are "good people." We need to show him that there's a growing national outcry of Christians who are appalled at how Tom and Paul are being treated.

A few days ago, the Koch money-backed advocacy group, Americans For Prosperity (AFP) mailed out incorrect voter registration information to hundreds of citizens in North Carolina. Despite hundreds of complaints from North Carolina voters who received misleading official-looking voter registration forms, the North Carolina State Board of Elections has not yet investigated this attempt at voter suppression. According to the board's public information officer, misinformation about voter registration can be a felony if it is intentionally misleading and is proven to suppress voters. These forms (from the conservative group Americans for Prosperity) misled voters about the deadline for registration and the address to which the forms should be mailed, both of which could result in people thinking they had registered to vote when they had not. Please sign this petition to tell the North Carolina State Board of Elections to investigate this mailing.

Voter suppression and intimidation is UN-AMERICAN. To use the law as a tool of suppression and intimidation turns our justice system on its head. Georgians deserve better!

Last week Oklahoma state Senator John Bennett commented that American Muslims are “a cancer in our nation that needs cutting out.” Sen. Bennett refused to apologize, “because I’m right, and they know I’m right,” he said. It is reprehensible for a state senator to speak with such callousness and racism.

We are starting this petition because we want to ensure that all Wake Forest students, staff, and faculty deserve to have their rights respected by University Police. In addition, this letter is to hold WFU University Police accountable for interactions that are racially biased.

It is time to keep our Utah children and young adults safe. Just weeks before Darrien Hunt was killed, a 20-year-old black man in Salt Lake City was shot and killed under similar circumstances.
