  • legalize same sex marriage in pennsylvania now
It seems Pennsylvania is way WAY behind public opinion and the entire eastern US regarding legalizing same sex marriage. Every state north of our capital, Washington, DC has legalized gay marriage except New Jersey (but civil unions are recognized) and PA, where legal gay marriages are not recognized and our state says "Marriage is only between one man and one woman". Its time PA got in line with other NE states and legalize gay marriage!

  • Revoke Barbara Rothweiler Counseling Licenses
Barbara Rothweiler, Ph.D.,a licensed counselor and principal of St Pius X School in New Mexico, is refusing to allow a student "Damien" to walk as a "male" at his graduation because he has "female" marked on his birth certificate -- even though his teachers, friends, and family all recognize and interact with him as a male. Forcing one to express a gender identity that is contrary to what one chooses to epxress is a clear violation of the ethics and professional license she holds, and has potential for causing long-lasting, and potentially irreparable psychological damage to Damien. As such, she should be disciplined by the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board, as well as each professional organization in which she holds membership for violating ethical and professional requirements of her license by refusing to recognize a St. Pius X's student's gender identity. Even though all his classmates, teachers, and family know Damian as a male. the St Pius X administration says that because he has "female" marked on his birth certificate -- despite the fact that he is now legally Damian and not Brandi -- he still must walk in a girl's cap and gown for graduation. See Rothweiler's bio: https://www.saintpiusx.com/page.aspx?pid=417 See the Phychotherapists' oath: http://www.americanpsychotherapy.com/about/oath/ This action is clearly a violation of her professional license, the counseling field - in general, and can potentially cause irreparable harm to this student.

  • Legalize Gay Marriage
Not all LGBT families can legally marry or adopt children or get to keep their children and if we don't make that change now, they will still continue to lose those rights and that's not fair.

  • The Social Security Administration needs to change their gender change requirements for transgend...
As a transgender woman on SSDI/SSI and receiving Medicare, I am often denied the medical care I need as the woman I now am. That and in many states, I cannot get/ keep my current female designation on my driver's license; all because the SSA will NOT change my birth sex designation unless I show proof of sexual reassignment surgery. Several states, including Indiana and Ohio, now require just a letter from a licensed psychologist, psychiatrist, or MD to do so on a transgender individual's driver's license. Same with the US Passport. Rather than require proof of sexual reassignment surgery as they currently do at the SSA ; a letter verifying the individual is living " full time" in their chosen gender from a licensed psychologist, psychiatrist, or MD should be sufficient.

  • Close Guantanamo Immediately
Human rights violations are being committed at the Guantanamo Bay detention centers. This fact is contrary to the ideals that have made America great, and represent a shameful chapter in our country's history. We demand that the illegal, unjust, and downright disgusting practices of torture and indefinite detention without trial be halted immediately. There is an honorable way to defend ourselves from our enemies, but this is not it. We call on the White House and the Congress of the United States to take any and all necessary steps to close the Guantanamo Bay detention centers NOW.

  • Marriage Equality
Marriage equality should apply to all. The definition of marriage should not be limited to one man and one woman but should include all our gay and lesbian citizens. The American way of life depends on inclusivity and is made richer by it.

  • Save John Potter's Home
A 91-year-old man wants to stop his daughter from evicting him from the home he built 56 years ago in Zaleski, Ohio, a small community south of Columbus. In 2004, John Potter and his wife, who has since died, gave the general power of attorney to his daughter for future matters if they declined in health, including to take care of her autistic adult brother, now 63. But unbeknownst to Potter, his daughter Janice Cottrill eventually used that power to convey the deed to the one-story home to herself. In 2010, Potter said he learned of the deed transfer and switched power of attorney to his granddaughter, Jaclyn Fraley, now 35. Potter won in Vinton County Court, but an appeals court ruled last year that the statute of limitations of four years had passed on the accusation of fraud and thus the deed could not be handed back to Potter. Early this year, his daughter and her husband sent Potter an eviction notice, saying they had terminated his "existing lease." An eviction hearing will take place on June 12, during which the judge will have no choice but to evict Potter. Another reason Potter and his attorney believe Cottrill would sell the home is she began selling parcels – about 14 acres in total -- from a hunting property Potter had owned a few miles away from his home last year. This man needs our help.
