• Equal Rights For All
In reflecting on the conversation of equal rights for all, I am reminded of my personal struggles of being a lesbian in a state that does not recognize gay marriage. Thus far, I'm unable to be legally connected to my partner, file joint taxes, share health benefits, obtain joint adoption and foster care, and receive tax or insurance breaks. In the worst of circumstances I would be unable to take sick leave to care for her, make medical decisions on her behalf, take bereavement leave, receive social security survivor benefits, automatically gain inheritance, and many other benefits. Currently, we do not have the same rights and the LGBTQIA should have the opportunity to legally marry and obtain these same privileges.

  • Rep. Cedric Richmond: Say "Yes" to Marriage Equality
It is time for our Democratic Senators and Representatives to come out and support marriage equality--to stand up for equal rights and get on the right side of history. Now, we are down to only eighteen House Democrats and three Senate Democrats who have not yet publically come out in support of marriage equality. Representative Cedric Richmond is one of them. Please sign this petition to urge him to do the right thing.

  • Do Not Pass CISPA
The citizens of the United States of America rejected SOPA/PIPA. The CISPA was passed by the House under our noses. It's the SAME THING. Stop the Senate from passing this bill. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_Intelligence_Sharing_and_Protection_Act

  • No battlegrounds in the US
The gross display of militarized force during the recent Boston Marathon catastrophe has gone too far. Our rights as Americans are being gladly traded for what many think is "needed security" in the face of domestic and international terror. From being groped in a security check in the airport to the families that were in a mandated lock down in Boston recently- Americans should never have to look outside of their homes and see thousands of military troops riding around in armored vehicles, brandishing weapons, and telling you that you can't leave your home. We have reached a point where the wants of the government have become incompatible with the freedoms promised to us in our Constitution.

  • Time to End Gerrymandering
Senate Bill 48 is a good government bill. It would create an independent state redistricting commission that would conduct its business in public, end gerrymandering, and make redistricting a rational, independent process for balancing voting populations.

  • Representative Bennie Thompson- Take a public stand on marriage equality!
Representative Bennie Thompson voted YES to defend marriage as between a man and a woman. Mississippi demands marriage equality for all of its citizens, and Mississippi's representatives should reflect the voice of the people.

  • Let's get a majority of the House to support Marriage Equality
Because of petitions like this, and millions of calls, emails and office visits, a majority in the U.S. Senate now supports Marriage Equality. We can do the same thing in the House of Representatives. Please send your U.S. Representative a clear and simple message--It is time for a majority in Congress to take a public stand for Marriage Equality.
