You or someone you know may have difficulty with rebuilding their lives after serving time in prison due to their criminal background. Those with a background of non-violent crimes should be given the opportunity to expunge their past record, so they may have a second chance at creating a better life for themselves and their family. Regardless of county jail time or prison time, record expunging should be treated equally for the same non-violent charges.

Currently on Georgia's Secretary of State website it states "Sexual Orientation: There is currently no Federal or Georgia law prohibiting discrimination against employees based on their sexual orientation." Homophobia and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is no different than racism. Just as the people of Georgia fought (and continue to fight) to eliminate racially discriminatory laws, we must continue to defend against discrimination against all groups, and this absolutely must include the LGBTQIA community. Simply put, we must not allow the legal abidance of discrimination.
