Dear Sir or Madame, My name is Aida crosby, and I am a member if the Santa Clara County Mental Health Board. I have a child, 12, with autism. For the past 8 years, Our child and our family have been subject to severe discrimination at the hands of public schools, church members, and private individuals. We have been trying very hard for the last five years to bring awareness to our church, county, city, neighborhood, and street of the need for individuals and institutions to meet the needs of families and individuals with autism. To our surprise, we find both lethargy and uncaring behavior from neurotypicals, and understanding and support by many, but they still have no clue or understanding with autism behaviors, social inadequacy, and mental disability when it is their turn to understand, help and accept. As a results I became a member of the Santa Clara County Mental Health Board, only to discover that autism is not even considered a mental disability. My family and I have been receiving anonymous hurtful, slandered letters, and attacked publicly in you tube, from our in inmidiate neighbors just because I have stand up to them asking to help me make the neighborhood safe from anything that can cause injuries to our autistic child. My oldest,15, is now suffering severe health problems as a result of their bulling, and verbal Abuse. Please help me, I feel this is an important stepping stone to bring up changes to benefit autistic individuals and their families. The bulling from adults, and private individuals must stop. The lack of legal help must stop...the only way we can get services for our kids is thru lawyers...and many children and individuals are being left behind, ignored, abused, uneducated, and families are in the brink of suicide, or destruction of the family. Most sincerely, and awaiting your response, Aida t. Crosby Protecting my adorable son Adrián Crosby

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell epitomizes the current crop of American politicians that know nothing about the Constitution and the proper role of government as envisioned by Thomas Jefferson and the founders.

  • Credit Checks for Employment
Recently, I was called for a job I interviewed for over the phone. The hiring manager told me that I was just what he wanted and that I would be getting a call soon to fly to Georgia for a face to face interview. What I got was a call from an HR guy asking me to fill out a the forms for a credit check. I was asking why a credit check for an IT job and why before an offer. I did this and the HR guy called back a day or so later and asked me about some stuff on my report. Then he said if I paid these items, they would fly me in for an interview. I was blown away. All these major companies are going bankrupt and are getting bailed out by the government. The average person is struggling in this country with the bad economy and we are now getting turned away from jobs? This company is huge that did this to me. They are TSYS out of Columbus GA.

  • Equal Voice
Ohio specialized license plates offer ProLife (anti-choice) but they do not offer Pro Choice. Why should purchasing license plates for my personal vehicle be limited to slogons and themes of the GOP without equal options for left wing Americans -- and women in our state.

  • Make Voting Mandatory
On average around 60% of the people who can vote actually exercise this right. That means on average, Presidents and senator's are elected with just over 30% of the voting populace. The majority of the people who vote are polarized to one party or another and the majority of the people who are in the middle don't bother. In order for Democracy to truly work requires the participation of the people as a whole.

  • What's in a Lunch?
Humiliation, fear, social stigma is the meal of choice...if you're a kid without enough money in RI. Despite the EPA annual estimate of more than 34 million tons of US food waste--the single largest component of landfills and incinerators--RI's school districts are left to interpret Public Law 108-265 and pocket the difference. Receiving adequate Federal funding to cover the cost of a STANDARD HOT LUNCH, these districts opt to have lunchroom monitors "speak" with OUR children about "their unpaid tab." OUR children are then left to accept a "Shame Sandwich"--a single slab of cold "American Cheese" (hydrogenated oil and whey-a milk byproduct) or, in some districts, "Sunny Butter" (a peanut butter substitute)--perhaps their only meal of their day--or to walk away. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2011/12/10/cold-cheese-sandwich-for-students-with-late-lunch-payments/ How would you feel? Hungry? Embarrassed? Ostracized in front of your peers? School is supposed to be a safe harbor, a place where children--even children without money--learn more than their ABCs. They learn to trust, socialization skills, and to explore. It isn't supposed to be a place of pain. Let's require all public schools to comply with the spirit of Public Law 108-265 and give all of OUR children the food they need for quality academic performance, or suffer a loss of Federal funding.

  • Oakland Needs a Police Commission
Oakland is on the verge of being the first city in the United States to have its police department placed into Federal receivership, losing all local control. There's no telling what may happen to the other city services as a result. Placing a measure on the ballot that creates a robust form of civilian oversight of police may prevent this Federal takeover and provide for sustainable local oversight

  • Stop Mayor Denson and the ACC's proposed Public Curfew Law
Mayor Denson, City Manager Reddish, and the Athens-Clarke County Commission are considering a Public Curfew law. Originally discussed as an Urban Camping Law, the ACC are now broadening the scope of it. As it is now being discussed, the law would allow the Commission to set a closing time for all County-Owned (aka owned by the citizens of ACC) properties, including City Hall, the County Courthouse, all public monuments, parks, greenways, etc. and the grounds surrounding these buildings. This law would have serious implications for the homeless, infringe upon free speech and assembly rights guaranteed in the Constitution, and could even restrict tailgating for UGA football games. The law is admittedly being drafted in response to a protest in 2012 by Occupy Athens protesters. If enacted, this law could be used at the discretion of public officials and the police, to shut down unwanted protests, harass and arrest homeless individuals, or make any activities after dark in public spaces illegal. Most area homeless do not have anywhere to go. There are over 500 homeless individuals in Athens-Clarke County, with about 20% being children, but only 250 shelter beds available. What will the police and ACC do with these people if they are not aloud to be on any public property after dark? Let's stop this law together because we should encourage our residents to take advantage of our beautiful city not limit their ability to.
