Civil rights or prisons? The privatization of prisons by the state. Prison is dehumanizing it cripples the human mind and body and its effects remain for a lifetime. For those that don't go insane or become emotional sterile, meaning "institutionalized". Life after returning to their families or community is never the same, many are mentally incapacitated from the effects of what they have had to endure or see done to others to survive. For many it is the same a surviving a war. Only to come back into a society that further dehumanizes them by not recognizing their right to vote or feed their families by having a job, which ultimately destroyes the family unit. Many of the companies lobbying the government are guaranting a 90% full capacity rate within the prisons..this means eventually someone you love or know will be imprisoned because to accomplish this rate more laws will need to be made to undermine your civil rights as free Americans!!! to embroil you into the criminal justice system and once there, there you will remain, trapped in a system that cares little for you as a individual or a human. And, the true problem is that you never quit paying and never does your family. For those that do make it back sane to their families, since they have received no true rehabilatation( you must fit a criteria and a waiting list) many come back home with only the survival skills of a prison life. We must and can do better than this!!!5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lucille Wade

Justice for DarrellDarrell's idenity was stolen by his brother and he committed six crimes in his name. We did everything we were told to do by the courts and six years later we are still getting the run around. We have lost our house, cars, and good credit because Darrell can't get a job, because of a criminal background that he didn't make.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Althea Curry Joyce

Fair Debt Collection Practises Act needs to apply to ALL creditors not just 3rd party collection ...I recently discovered that the Fair Debt Collection Practises Act only applies to 3rd party collection companies and not to original creditors. This means that collection departments for original creditors can resort to any collection practices they desire and the consumer has no legal recourse to stop harassment, intimidation or deception. Regardless of who makes a collection call, original creditor or 3rd party collection agency no one should be able to phone a consumer about a debt before 8 AM or after 9 PM. I've been woken before 5 AM and after 10 PM by collection calls from a creditor. Likewise no one should be allowed to phone constantly regarding a debt. I've had a creditor phone almost hourly even after I've made an agreement to pay by a specific date; and although I had a history of keeping my payment promises with them. Their expressed reason for not stopping these harassing phone calls was because I refused to give them a post-dated check for the agreed payment arrangement. According to my bank post-dated checks are illegal and if a post-dated check is submitted early it will be processed immediately by the bank and not held until the date on the check. This happened to me once and resulted in huge overdraft fees, so I don't wish to experience that again. My problems with harrassing debt collection practises began after a job loss due to disabilies affecting my job performance, long term unemployment and a three year wait for approval of my social security disability benefits that caused me to experience severe financial hardship. (I worked hard all my life and paid into SS for nearly 30 years.) I got behind two payments on my car loan. Although I was able to catch up one month and continued to make monthly payments thereafter, I remained 30 days behind, and this triggered the creditor's automated debt collection processes.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Denise Subramaniam

Lesbian couple kicked out of Richmond, KY parkAs a 26 yr old male who recently "came out", I still have lot's of memories from college. Richmond, Kentucky was a where I spent my first two yrs of college. It's an amazing college town with the capability to positively impact the minds of thousands of young people who are very impressionable. Now living in San Francisco (and out) I have a much clearer picture of how humans should be treated no matter their race, gender, sexuality, etc.. I read this story from a Facebook post and felt sick to my stomach that these sort of incidents still happen in parts of the US. A lesbian couple taking photos in a public park in Richmond, Kentucky were kicked out by park officials for a mere kiss on the cheek during a photo shoot!! The city of Richmond has so far taken NO ACTION and avoided the issue all together. Full Investigation of Groton Housing Authority AbusesMy letter of Complaint, Addendum & Summary to the Unitarian Universalist Association re: First Parish Church of Groton and Groton Housing Authority Collusion details 5 + years of retaliation for not mediating my divorce. Apparently, there's alot of money involved, which, if I get control of my assets, will be invested in Solar- & Wind-Powered Mass Transit & other socially responsible investments. Add to that STATE RELIGION which can take control of your personal assets because you have similar values based on church membership, reinforced by the local HOUSING AUTHORITY that allows church officials to search your home, and the Dept of Children & Families which can take your teenager out of your custody in retaliation for "committing the truth" by writing letters which expose the misdeeds of the movers-and-shakers.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cheryl Ann Hill

Return of Civil Rights and expunction of records for ex-felonsThis concerns every non-violent ex-felon who has "paid their debt to society" but cannot get a return of their civil rights nor have their records expunged. Under former Florida Governer Charlie Crist this process was streamlined as long as the person had a non-violent offense and met the requirements of the statute. Florida Governor Rick Scott, in an effort to prevent these individuals from voting changed the law almost immediately upon taking office.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by JC Powell, Sr.

Stop voting machines that use proprietory softwareI believe that the software used for elections should be created by an independent government agency and needs to be reviewed by impartial parties to insure there is no bias in the software toward either party.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michelle Mueller

Ask the Justice Department to invalidate voter repression lawsMany states have passed "voter ID" laws to "curb voter fraud". There should be no law passed that would increase the difficulty of a legal voter to be able to cast his/her vote. There are very few cases of voter fraud reported in our ENTIRE Nation, and there is little if no evidence that leads even the most careful investigator to believe that any of these laws will "curb" the nearly-non-existent voter fraud. Also, there has been verbal acknowledgment by a Pennsylvania lawmaker that these laws have been enacted for political & partisan reasons.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Graham Warwick

Impeach Rick Perry as GovernorRick Perry is requesting for the Texas Citizens to pay for his campaign when he was running for president; we all know that was a disgrace to Texas. We should not be responsible for his personal decisions. Secondly, Rick Perry said he will not receive additional medicaid for the poor and the middle class citizens in the state of Texas. This is outrageous & not encouraging to our citizens that need help here. We need help in Texas because the rich continues to press their feet on our necks here and it is time to stop. The republicans have bullied us enough. 3rdly, Rick Perry said he will not allow the people of Texas to have any part of President Obama's Health Care plan. Rick Perry knows we need help and have always chosen to look over us as if we don't exist. He acknowledges the rich and he will only show his face with minority people of color when he is in the midst of a campaign trying to get votes by deceit; the same way Kaye Bailey Hutchinson is and has done as a Senator. We do not need him in office any longer. We need a Democrat. Someone that is willing to look out for all people not just the rich people.609 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Debra
