Leonard Peltier, the American Indian who has been wrongfully imprisoned by the u.s. government for over 30 years - longer than Nelson Madela. On June 26, 1975, two FBI agents stormed (guns a-blazing) onto private property of a private home and were shot under the rules of basic, human, self-defense by friends of the homeowners. Mr. Peltier has been rotting in prison for much too long. Ask yourself - if Peltier was Black would he still be imprisoned, or would the NAACP have stepped in to free him? As a former den leader and pack secretary/treasurer who was kicked out for being gay back in 1998, I have followed the BSA's position on gay membership closely. In the case of Dale v BSA that was argued before the US Supreme Court, the BSA successfully petitioned the court to recognize it as a private religious organization. This decision effectively permits the BSA to discriminate against whomever it chooses. And as much as people may not want to accept it, that is their constitutional right. Imagine one of your church groups being forced to accept someone that did not follow the same teachings as your church. However, as a private religious organization, the government, whether local, state or federal, MUST dissociate itself with the BSA. Failure to do so is a clear violation of the First Amendment. Therefore, it is imperative that the US Congress revoke the charter it granted the BSA back in 1916 that effectively gives it a monopoly not only on the use of the term "scouts" (amended to allow the Girl Scouts to use it in 1954) but also on the type of program. The BSA has successfully sued to prevent the formation of similar organizations that are inclusive and non-discriminatory. It is able to do so solely because of the Congressional charter. Contact your representative and your senator and tell them to revoke the BSA charter. Tell them that the government of the US must not endorse any private religious organization. Tell them that every young boy— gay or straight, atheist or agnostic or relgious— has the right to have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits offered by an organization that helps them develop their character, their self-esteem and their sense of responsibility to the community.

Coca-Cola has received a top rating of 100 percent from the Human Rights Campaign for its performance regarding workplace policies for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender associates. You also do business with Chick-Fil-A, who has gone on record that they don’t support this cause and actually DO support causes that work to oppose this issue. Not only do they agree with a ban on same sex marriage, they donate money to these causes. We see this partnership as a double standard and we believe that, if your reputation as a fair minded company is genuine, you will stop doing business with this company. Show the world that Coca-Cola can put its money where its mouth is and cut all business ties with Chick-Fil-A.

The Fargo Forum newspaper has a ban on same-sex marriage announcements, and they need to end that ban now! There is no place in North Dakota or anywhere else in our country to encourage bigotry against any group of our citizens. We in NoDak are not people who hate or want to destroy the lives of our neighbors, friends, and family. A ban on celebrating the beauty of a loving, life-long relationship is never the correct thing to do, whether you agree with that relationship or not. A customer is a customer, everyone has a right to their personal views, but no right to push them on others in their community. To keep the community from the knowledge of an extremely happy event they may want to celebrate is not a value we should encourage. Having a "news" outlet in a small area gives that outlet quite a bit of power, and using that power to damage others needs to be something we all need to reject.

Fast food toy partnerships are multi-million dollar endeavors, with companies using them as the centerpiece of huge advertising campaigns to their target audience of young children. Getting The Berenstain Bears to follow the Muppets out the door will add more fuel to a massive media firestorm and show Chick-fil-A that supporting anti-gay groups is definitely bad for business.
