  • Vote From Home -Absentee Ballot
My concern is that Democrats worry about the money Republicans are pouring into the election while not doing something positive to win the election. Democratic are in the majority. We should start a campagin to have Democrats match Republican's money with Absentee Ballot Pleagues. For each dollar the koch brothers give, we should have Democratics pleague to vote absentee. We do not need money we just need Absentee Ballot Pleagues.

  • Bring Michael David Copeland home from Iraq
My name is Angela Copeland. My husband, Michael David Copeland, passed away in Baghdad, Iraq, on Saturday, June 9, 2012, while he was working as an aircraft mechanic for a private military contractor at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. We do not have details surrounding his death; neither the company he worked for, DynCorp, nor the U.S. State Department has been forthcoming with information. Weeks have now passed since he died and his body is still not home. We've spoken with officials from the U.S. State Department. And we've spoken with Congress, but we still haven't seen results. Each agency wants to defer blame on to someone else as to why he hasn’t been brought back to the United States. Can anyone tell me why an American citizen, a decorated Marine and National Guardsman, is being treated like this and why they won’t just bring him home? Michael David was a much loved husband, son, brother, grandson, uncle, step-father, cousin, and friend to so many. He doesn't deserve this. My husband was a Texas resident for quite some time and his company was located in Texas, as well as numerous friends and family. I need your help to get to word out in Texas and across the country, and to put pressure on Texas legislators and the U.S. State Department to get Michael David home!

  • Eric Holder, Stop DEA Raids on Dispensaries
Eric Holder is on record saying he would stop DEA raids on medical marijuana dispensaries and has not delivered on this promise. His raids target people in compliance with state law. Tell Eric Holder to stop using the DEA to conduct unjust raids inconsistent with the laws of the states in which they occur.

  • Take Away Tax-exempt Status from Promoters of Hate
Reactionary talk show host Bryan Fischer enjoys tax free status while spewing hate and vitriol into the American airwaves and pulling the Republican party further to the right. The continuation of this infringes upon the rights of all Americans who are not a member of the white anglo saxon protestant community.

  • Maintain the North Carolina Racial Justice Act!
In 2009, the North Carolina General Assembly passed a landmark piece of civil rights legislation, the NC Racial Justice Act (RJA). The RJA allows people facing capital prosecution and execution to introduce evidence of racial bias, including statistical evidence, if it exists in their case. The Racial Justice Act implements the fundamental principles that nondiscrimination is the standard in North Carolina and that equal treatment under the law should be extended to every individual regardless of race. On April 20, 2012 Superior Court Judge Greg Weeks ruled in the first case to be heard under the RJA, finding intentional bias in the case of Marcus Robinson, both in the county and judicial division where he was tried, and across the state. As required by the RJA, Robinson was re-sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Since 2010, the new majority in the NC General Assembly has been trying to repeal the RJA. They passed a bill that did repeal it, the Governor vetoed that bill, and they were unable to muster the votes to override her veto. Early in June, 2012, House members introduced another bill that guts the RJA, despite the clear evidence of racial bias cited in Judge Weeks’ order, and it passed with a veto-proof majority. It now heads to the NC Senate for a vote. Regardless of ones views on the death penalty, we should all agree that racial discrimination has no place in our criminal justice system. This petition urges North Carolina policy makers to defend this necessary civil rights legislation against all efforts to undermine, weaken or repeal its strength.

  • Speaker of the House: Lift the censurship ban on MI Representatives Lisa Brown and Barb Byrum
Free speech is a fundamental right enshrined in the First Amendment of the US Constitution. On June 13th during a debate of House Bill 5711on the floor of the Michigan House, Representatives Lisa Brown and Barbara Byrum used the words vagina and vasectomy in their eloquent and courageous speeches. Apparently, these medically-correct terms are shocking to the Republicans who control all three branches of the Michigan government. As a result, Speaker of the House Jase Bolger along with Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas have stripped these eminent legislators of their first amendment rights to free speech. No reason for their censure was given other than decorum must be maintained. No length of time for this punishment was provided. We demand that the censorship of Representatives Lisa Brown and Barbara Byrum be lifted immediately and that Speaker of the House Jase Bolger and Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas issue a public apology to these outstanding and courageous women.
